Black Panther 2 Set to Film in July, Enters Talks With Potential Antagonist
Black Panther sequel set to film in July, enters talks with potential antagonist
This year saw the world rocked by the sudden loss of Chadwick Boseman and left many wondering how Marvel Studios would move forward with the highly-anticipated Black Panther 2 and now, nearly four months after his death, it appears they’ve found their path as they’re eyeing a July 2021 start date for filming, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Not only did this year see the loss of Boseman, but it also marked the first year that Marvel Studios went without releasing a single film since jumpstarting the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008, and sources report the studio is pushing to get production started on the tentatively-titled Black Panther 2 in Atlanta in July for at least six months. In addition, Narcos: Mexico star Tenoch Huerta is reportedly in talks to join returning cast members Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett as an antagonist, while some sources report that Wright’s beloved Shuri may take on a more central role in the sequel.
Since his loss, there’s been little-to-no word regarding how the studio and writer/director Ryan Coogler would handle the absence of Boseman for the story, though Marvel Studios Executive Vice President Victoria Alonso has stated outright they would not use a digital double for the late star.

Marvel Studios’ Black Panther follows T’Challa (Boseman) who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king – and Black Panther – is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.
The film stars the late Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Oscar winners Lupita Nyong’o and Forest Whitaker, Danai Gurira, Oscar nominees Daniel Kaluuya and Angela Bassett. It also features Martin Freeman, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, and Andy Serkis.

The film was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures and is currently available on Disney+.
Black Panther received seven nominations at the 91st Academy Awards including Best Picture, with wins for Best Costume Design, Best Original Score, and Best Production Design. Looks Like Black Panther 2 Has A Date To Begin Filming

The Black Panther II update also mentions a possible newcomer to the cast. Tenoch Huerta of Narcos: Mexico fame is in talks to play one of the villains in the movie, which will also star Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong’o, Winston Duke and Angela Bassett. Word on the street is Wright’s Shuri could have a “prominent role” in the sequel, but that’s purely outside speculation at this point.
Teena Marie ~ Lovergirl 1984 Disco Purrfection Version
Teena Marie….the ivory queen of soul! She was also known as Lady Tee and Vanilla Child although she was born Mary Christine Brockert on March 5, 1956. She had the music in her and as early as age two, she was already singing “The Banana Boat Song (Day-O) as made popular by Harry Belafonte and progressed to performing the songs of Motown. Did you know she appeared on “The Beverly Hillbillies” under the name Tina Marie Brockert? She had formal piano lessons then taught herself to play guitar, bass and the congas! She built on her aspirations to succeed in high school, becoming the lead female in the school’s production of “The Music Man”. A chance meeting at Motown for an acting role led to her fateful meeting with Rick James, who was there to work with Diana Ross. Once he heard Teena Marie, he dropped the Ross project and concentrated on Teena. Their first LP “Wild And Peaceful” produced a #8 R&B hit in “I’m A Sucker For Your Love” a duet with Rick. She was “Soul Train”‘s first white female to appear on the show, and she was asked to return for a total of eight times. Her second LP, “Lady T” and third LP “Irons In The Fire” were released in 1980. “Irons” contained the #2 club hit “I Need Your Lovin”. A few years later, she was locked in a dispute with Motown over her contract and release of new material. Not one to be pushed around, she filed a lawsuit and won. “The Brockert Initiative” was the result, which made it illegal for a record company to keep an individual under contract without releasing new material for that artist. Motown firmly behind her now, she signed with Epic and was allowed to run her own publishing company, At this point she was a self made woman, writing, producing and performing her own compositions. Her most successful LP, “Starchild” from 1984 contained her biggest Hot 100 hit, “Lovergirl”. The sinewy guitar driven song peaked at #4, #6 on the Hot Dance/Disco chart and #9 on the R&B charts. In 2004, while she slept, a heavy picture frame on the wall over her head fell and suffered a severe concussion that resulted in momentary seizures for the rest of her life. On December 26, 2010, her daughter found her unconscious and she died shortly after that. The subsequent autopsy was unable to pinpoint the cause of death, so it was ruled natural causes.
She was 54.
