What’s This TV Show About?

Streaming on the Paramount+ subscription service, Why Women Kill is a darkly comedic anthology drama from Marc Cherry. Season two stars Allison Tolman, Lana Parilla, B.K. Cannon, Jordane Christie, Matthew Daddario, Veronica Falcón, and Nick Frost. The second season’s story takes place in 1949 and explores what it means to be beautiful, the hidden truth behind the facades people present to the world, the effects of being ignored and overlooked by society, and finally, the lengths one woman will go in order to finally belong.

Telly’s Take

Unless they decide to publicize viewership, it is difficult to predict whether Paramount+ will cancel or renew Why Women Kill for season three. Since Paramount+ isn’t ad-supported, it can take a chance on series it believes in, but sooner or later it comes down to production costs, versus viewership numbers. Given that this anthology series comes from Marc Cherry, I’m leaning toward a renewal. I’ll keep my ears open and an eye out for news, and will update this page with breaking developments. 12/16/21 update: Why Women Kill has been renewed.

A Day in the Life of…Katelyn Tarver

0

“Growing up, I put on countless shows in the living room for my family, I did dance recitals, I sang solos at church and at our small-town festivals…” LA-based, Georgia-raised Katelyn Tarver tells us. “I was a shy kid but something would click in me when I got on a stage. I was always drawn to it. Even to this day I almost always tear up at the beginning of a concert. That moment when the lights go down, the crowd cheers, there’s this collective excitement for what we’re all about to experience…so magical to me, and the idea that I get to be a part of that in any way as my career makes me feel like the luckiest person alive.”

Her new album Subject To Change, released in November, is an exquisite showcase of her pull-at-your-heartstrings lyrical and vocal prowess. “It usually starts with a lyric I have written down in my notes and then I just try to build out a world around the feeling it brings up,” she says. “I have relationships with a few co-writers and producers who I feel really comfortable opening up to, which I think makes all the difference. They also know my style and instincts at this point, which is helpful in creating an environment to create in and take risks. And then I just try and write a song that feels honest and authentic to me, and sometimes it happens and sometimes we get nothing and just have to call it and try again the next day!”

The result is a style she categorizes as “emotional/introspective/melancholy/singer-songwriter indie pop”. We just call it stunning.

“Existential questions, a rough patch in my life, transitions, reflecting on difficult past experiences. It all inspired the album,” she says, of Subject To Change. “The title has a few different meanings to me. A lot of the songs are about staring down change and uncertainty and my thoughts and fears around that, so I thought it was a fitting title to sum that up. It’s also kind of a statement of how I view the world right now. A realization that life isn’t about arriving at this ultimate place of happiness. It’s up and down. It’s messy. Every gain comes with some type of loss. Nothing is ever static. And maybe accepting that and trying to embrace it instead of white-knuckling onto certainty and this idea of perfection is a good place to be.”

She has a few dates left in her 2021 tour, which will resume in March of next year. Be sure to check her out.

Here’s a day in the life of Katelyn Tarver.

Date  October 25, 2021

Time I woke up 8:00 a.m. (okay 8:45)

Every day starts with Scrolling Instagram! How many articles will I have to read telling me that that’s the worst way to start your day before I actually listen? I do not know…

Breakfast consists of Granola and coffee.

To get going I always Go for a walk and call my manager to ask him what I’m supposed to be

doing that day.

I don’t feel dressed without My teeth brushed.

Before I start working I must Clean out my closet, do laundry, organize a junk drawer, pay my water bill, call an old friend…you get the point.

Currently working on Album promo/ trying to figure out a Halloween costume.

But I’d really love to be On tour! Sooooon!

Book I’m reading No One Asked For This: Essays  by Cazzie David.

I don’t know how anyone ever Doesn’t lose their sunglasses a few times a year.

If I had to play one album on repeat, it would be  Continuum by John Mayer.

The perfect midday consists of An impromptu, big lunch out somewhere with a friend that makes me laugh.

To help get through the day I need  A La Croix by noon.

Not a day goes by without speaking to  My brother and sister.

My daydreams consist of Me on a terrace in Italy overlooking cliffs and the ocean. Me playing a big sold out concert. Me buying groceries and actually eating them throughout the week instead of getting delivery by Tuesday.

In a perfect day, in a perfect world  All my friends would play a board game with me without giving me shit for wanting them to play a board game with me.

I’ll always fight for The idea that that that scary thing you’re feeling, as isolating as it seems, is probably a feeling a lot of other people have had and you’re not crazy.

Currently in love with Anyone who has bought a ticket to my shows/bought my vinyl/bought my merch/streamed my music… I feel so overwhelmed with love from my fans lately! It’s really the best.

Hoping to make time to watch The Crown. But I’ve been saying that for two years now…

By my bedside I always have Two glasses of water. One fresh one that I just made, and one still there from the night before that I forgot to put away.

To help get through the night I use a Snooz sound machine. If you are a baby like me and need white noise to sleep, this is the best one I’ve come across. (not an ad but….. Snooz wya???!)

Bed time Truly anywhere from 10:00 p.m. – 2:00 a.m. depending on the day.

When I think about tomorrow, it’s always  Oh, I should get that thing done I’ve been meaning to get done! Tomorrow will be the day!

Lyrics
All my life I keep on searching for that special thing
How I’ve tried to always find a love and understanding
To always see the light of day and to know that I am living
All my life I won’t take if I’m not giving

Only when the rain comes down
Only when the lightning strikes me
Will I find the answer for myself

It’s got to be real
Be the best nothing less than wonderful
It’s got to be real this time
What’s waiting there inside
It’s got to be real
Knowing love know it can be powerful
It’s got to be really love
So we can rise above

All my life I try to see the love inside myself
And I keep on trying in no uncertain terms
To let my light shine through

Only when the rain comes down
Only when the lightning strikes me
Will I find the answer for myself

It’s got to be real
Be the best nothing less than wonderful
It’s got to be real this time
What’s waiting there inside
It’s got to be real
Knowing love know it can be powerful
It’s got to be really love
So we can rise above

To always see the light of day and to know that I am living
All my life I won’t take if I’m not giving

Only when the rain comes down
Only when the lightning strikes me
Will I find the answer for myself

It’s got to be real
Be the best nothing less than wonderful
It’s got to be real this time
What’s waiting there inside
It’s got to be real
Knowing love know it can be powerful
It’s got to be really love
So we can rise above

BOOKWORM NEWS:

  • Shelter by Kristen Proby is now live!! — “Remi Carter has survived her fifteen minutes of fame and is putting LA in her rearview mirror. As a former reality show contestant, she’s trading staged expeditions and faked wilderness tours for real adventures. Only one fluke storm in Glacier National Park has her stranded with a handsome man, and adventure takes on a whole new meaning. Seth King is as rugged and sexy as he is annoyed to be trapped with Remi. Probably because she ghosted him at the local bar not three days ago. But she’s got her reasons for ditching him, and twenty-four hours in an abandoned Montana cabin with the wildlife biologist isn’t nearly enough time to explain. As tempting as he is by firelight, she’s been burned too many times. Except one day together and suddenly her travel van doesn’t hold as much appeal. The open road feels lonely. Remi’s about to learn that shelter is more than a safe place to weather a storm. Shelter might just be the man himself. If he can give her a reason to stay.”
  • Code Name: Disavowed by Sawyer Bennett is now live!! — “Life works in mysterious ways. Jameson Force Security has just received notice of a disavowed CIA agent in need of rescue in Central America. My blood runs cold when I learn that agent is none other than Greer Hathaway—my former fiancée. Having gone our separate ways more than a decade ago, I still have bitter feelings toward Greer and the demise of our relationship. Those feelings don’t change the fact that I loved her more than anything, so I’m on the next flight out to embark on a rescue mission. Besides, Greer once saved my life, so now it’s time to return the favor and put her firmly in my past. Face-to-face for the first time since ending our engagement, Greer and I are left with not only anger, unanswered questions and regrets, but also the undeniable chemistry we apparently still have. Will the promise of a new future together be enough, or will the same obstacles tear us apart again?”
  • Homecoming King by Penny Reid is now live!! — “Rex “TW” McMurtry’s perpetual single-hood wouldn’t bother him so much if all his ex-girlfriends didn’t keep marrying the very next person they dated, especially when so many of those grooms are his closest friends. He may be a pro-football defensive end for the Chicago Squalls, but the press only wants to talk about how he’s always a groomsman and never a groom. Rex is sick of being the guy before the husband, and he’s most definitely sick of being the best man at all their weddings. Bartender Abigail McNerny is the gal-pal, the wing-woman, the she-BFF. She’s dated. Once. And once was more than enough. Privy to all the sad stories of her customers, ‘contentment over commitment’ is her motto, and Abby is convinced no one on earth could ever entice her into a romantic relationship . . . except that one guy she’s loved since preschool. The guy who just walked into her bar. The guy who doesn’t recognize her. The guy who is drunk and needs a ride home. The guy who has a proposition she should definitely refuse.”
  • My Unexpected Surprise by Piper Rayne is now live!! — “I never thought of myself as dad material. Until my one-night stand showed up in my small Alaskan town five months pregnant. But I don’t shy away from responsibility. First, because I’m a Greene and not to boast but we’re kind of a big deal in Sunrise Bay. Second, I’m the Sheriff. I couldn’t have predicted how protective I’d become for the safety of her and my unborn baby to the point of asking her to move in with me and be my roommate. Just when I think I have the situation under control, another surprise knocks me over, but it only spurs me to double down. I’ll be the first to admit, I didn’t think it through. Somewhere between the dinners, the TV show binging, the doctor appointments, and me walking in on her naked, lines blurred. In what feels like warp speed, my bachelor for life status is in jeopardy and I’m fighting for the most important thing of all—my family.”
  • Dark Alpha’s Silent Night by Donna Grant (Reapers series) is now live!! — “There is no escaping the Reapers. We are elite assassins, part of a brotherhood that only answers to Death. But when Death says it’s our time to live, we are more than happy to obey. We have suffered betrayal, heartbreak, chaos, and even death. Despite another foe lurking around the corner, most of us have found happiness and love. While some still search, there is contentment—a sense of peace and purpose. And with the holidays upon us, it is time to celebrate the family we have made. The one we chose. The season is for revelry, and we intend to take advantage. Whatever may come next will still be there after the last present is unwrapped.”

Directed by Zombieland and Venom director Ruben Fleischer, Uncharted is a prequel to the game series and will be taking inspiration from both a sequence of Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception, in which young thief Nathan Drake first meets future partner Victor Sullivan, and the fourth installment in the game franchise, A Thief’s End.

The film adaptation will be led by Spider-Man: No Way Home star Tom Holland as Nathan Drake, and Mark Wahlberg (Transformers films). It will also feature Academy Award-nominated actor Antonio Banderas (The Mask of ZorroPain and Glory), Grey’s Anatomy actress Sophia Ali, and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Tati Gabrielle.

Fleischer, who was the seventh director attached to the project, is directing Uncharted from a script written by the Men in Black: International duo Art Marcum & Matt Holloway and Rafe Judkins (The Wheel of Time), based on a story put together by the trio and previous director Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), Mark D. Walker, and John Hanley Rosenberg.
