Life Lessons from Adam Driver

Adam Driver

Welcome to Life Lessons. This week, we celebrate the release of the new film House of Gucci by revisiting a few highlights from our December 2016 cover story with Adam Driver. In it, the actor speaks with his friend and frequent collaborator, the director Noah Baumbach, about the pursuit of the perfect take, lightsabers, and what he’s learned from Martin Scorsese. So sit back and grab a pen—you just might learn a thing or two.

———

“I love the idea of doing a lot of takes because there’s so many different ways that you can play scenes. Oftentimes I leave a set and there are so many different ways to have played a scene that I think of later, when I’m more relaxed and not distracted. I go through a mourning period, like, ‘Oh, God, we’ll never get to go back and do it again.’”

———

“I don’t really come in with a set way of working, I guess. I always feel out the vibe.”

———

“The only thing I know that makes me feel comfortable is to know as much as I can. Not like what the shots are going to be, but knowing enough about my character that I can forget those things. And more specifically, my lines. I have to know my lines.”

Adam Driver

———

“I have to know something really well, so I can forget it when we’re doing it. And there is comfort in knowing, ‘Okay, there’s not another stone that I could have overturned.’”

———

“At the end of whatever we’re doing, I always feel like I want to go back and start over again because now I have a better sense of what it is. I feel that with everything. Like, if you’re doing like a long run of a play and you’re doing it seven shows a week, at the end of it, I want to go back and start from the beginning.”

———

“I always found something strangely paternal about the director-actor relationship. Actors want so much approval.”

Adam Driver

———

“I know my potential. If it’s not good, then I have to fight to make it better.”

———

“I was dropping my wife off outside our building and I saw this mom holding a lightsaber—like, my lightsaber—and scarily accurate. Like, life-size. And she was handling it like she’s handled it a million times. She was juggling four kids who were all running in different directions, and she had three different bags and this lightsaber. Suddenly, the things that are great about this job came into full focus.”

———

“I didn’t have much exposure to theater. I remember watching Total Recall [1990] very young, and Predator [1987]—a lot of Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.”

Adam Driver

———

“Top five performances, I’d say maybe Bill Irwin in Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?; Fiona Shaw in Happy Days at BAM; Judd Hirsch in Ordinary People [1980]; and pretty much everybody in Kramer vs. Kramer [1979].”

———

“We were talking about rebellion; that’s especially relevant when it comes to Scorsese. You expect to go there and your impulse is to be, ‘Tell me what to do, and I’ll do it.’ He doesn’t want you to do that. He hires you for your ideas and wants you to take ownership of it. It’s really inspiring to work with someone who’s accomplished so much and is the tip of the pyramid and is still turning to you and wants your ideas and opinions.”

Kenny G & Chante Moore – One More Time

43

Hermosísima canción interpretada por Chante Moore acompañada por kenny G

Letra (Lirycs)

I lie half awake, late at night
I reach out to touch you
feel you by my side
and I reach, and I reach,
but I never get to feel you
Will I ever get to feel you again, again

Just one more time
One more moment
To take you in my arms
One more chance
One more kiss
Before I wake to find you gone
One more time
Before I have to face another bad day,
and my heart breaks again

It’s only a dream
but it’s all so real
Don’t want it to end
but I know it will
So I pray, and I pray
Every night I’m on my knees
Begging for the chance to see you
again, again

Just one more time
One more moment
To take you in my arms
One more chance
One more kiss
Before I wake to find you gone
One more time
Before I have to face another bad day,
and my heart breaks again

Kenny G solo…

Oh one more time
Before I have to face another day,
and my heart breaks again
again…

This is so fetch: Lindsay Lohan is engaged!

The Mean Girls actress is set to tie the knot with her boyfriend Bader Shammas, she announced on Instagram early Sunday, Nov. 28. “My love. My life. My family. Test Footage of Jason Momoa as The Crow Surfaces

Test footage of actor Jason Mamoa playing The Crow in a reboot of the comic book film has surfaced online, showcasing the actor in full makeup and playing the part.

Shortly after photos leaked online of the actor in makeup and what looks to be on a dark and dreary set, filmmaker Ryan Unicomb took to Twitter and shared a very brief clip of Mamoa posing and acting as The Crow. In the clip, Mamoa is also dressed as The Crow, complete with facial makeup done and no shirt as well. Unicomb later shared the full set of test footage, which also includes Mamoa hanging off of street lamps and walking across a large courtyard area.

The history of Momoa’s role in a reboot of The Crow is a long one, with Momoa having taken over in the starring role after Luke Evans and Jack Huston both departed the role in 2014. Corin Hardy (The Hallow) was attached to direct the film. However, after moving from Relativity Media to Sony in 2015, the film remained in limbo, and both Hardy and Momoa eventually left the project in 2018 over differences behind the project.

The Crow is a supernatural dark fantasy comic book series that tells the story of a man who is brought back to life to avenge his murder and the death of his fiancée. The series was famously adapted into a film in 1994 starring Brandon Lee, which became notorious following his tragic death on the set of the film.

Since the 1994 film, various reboot attempts have been made, but it seems like nothing has stuck, and the recent test footage of Momoa is the closest we’ll get to another adaptation of The Crow for the time being.

Valentino Khan Shares Favorite Photos From Holy Ship Ahead Of Wrecked! Next Weekend

0

There’s a reason Holy Ship! is regarded so highly among those who have attended, whether on the original ship or on the newly minted Wrecked! varietal in Mexico. Everyone booked for the event is already at least someone close — of course some more than others — but it always gives way to some of the most surprising and one-of-a-kind circumstances across the festival circuit.

One of the producer/DJs who regularly shows up and creates a wonderful sort of chaos is Valentino Khan. We reached out to Holy Ship! to have Valentino provide us with some of his favorite photos from across the years, as well as his thoughts on each occasion.

Below, you’ll see impromptu b2bs with Phantoms & GG Magree, or Diplo, as well as his WWF event, and just some general rambunction. Check it out below and visit holyship.com for more info about festivities next week!

The back 2 back sets are always very impromptu at Ship. Here I am playing with a country western DJ who says his name is “Diplo.”

Best part about the few days is hanging with buds you don’t get to see too often. I think we all ended up getting dinner after this pic.

Last year they had these coconuts filled with rare Dominican liquor and I couldn’t stop drinking them. They always seemed to spur conversation.

I always try to play a ton of house music during my sets at Ship. Never fails to set the mood right.

It’s become a tradition for me to referee World Sumo Wrestling Federation. Basically a tournament of people in inflated suits trying to destroy each other.

When you play Holy Ship, half the fun is hopping around and checking out all your friends’ sets.

Sometimes you link up with your homies and your bottles collide to create an incredible mix.

And sometimes you stumble into something random. I was walking the beach and pulled up on Phantoms hosting a cocktail contest & got in on the action.
