Indie folk stars Lord Huron are, in fact, putting out a new album after having teased a project for almost two months on social media. Itās calledĀ Long Lost and will be available on May 21 viaĀ Whispering Pines Studios Inc./Republic Records.
The formal announcement comes after a series of videos (some more cryptic than others) and the release ofĀ āNot Dead Yetā last month. Of course, those who have been keeping up to date with the bandāsĀ Alive From Whispering Pines series shouldnāt be all that shocked.
Perhaps the bigger surprise is the bandās unexpected release of a second new single from the album, āMine Foreverā to coincide with the announcement. Check out the new track below.

For those who have been following along with the bandās livestreams, the release continues to build the world put forth in the first three shows (with the last one having aired just yesterday) and sets the stage for the dramatic conclusion in next monthās episode. From the creation of the character Tubbs Tarbell to the unique video series, itās certainly not your average album announcement, but thatās pretty much whatās to be expected from a band thatās been making their own rules for the last couple of decades.
Kia Damon, who was head chef at Lalito while it was open and is a recent winner of Food Networkās Chopped, has been busier than ever. Along with a series of pop-ups, virtual events, and private cooking jobs, Damon has co-founded Auxilio ā a food-centered space that supports queer, Black, trans, and indigenous communities in New York ā and founded the Kia Feeds the People Program, another nonprofit aimed at combating food apartheid. With everything else going on, she is adjusting her home-cooking routine accordingly.
Monday, March 1 I had oatmeal that I cooked on the stovetop. I eat a lot of oatmeal. Rolled oats with the matcha-almond beverage from Trader Joeās. Cacao nibs, pumpkin seeds, pepitas, sunflower seeds, butter, maple syrup, and sea salt. I also had the same oatmeal for lunch ācause it was sitting on the stove and I was like, I will absolutely not be wasting this. I am broke, honey! I donāt wanna leave this house.Ā
Working from home, eating from home, cooking from home ā it all blends into one experience. I try to play hooky, getting up to walk outside. Iāve been trying to practice a lot of that. Taking walks, heading to Herbert Von King Park, just to bring some humanity back into my schedule.
Itās a little difficult because Iām trying to cook for myself but also getting ready to cook for a job. But then Iām also like, Hmmm ⦠I havenāt posted anything on the Instagram, so then Iām like, What do I post? Do I post the oatmeal? Iām trying to practice putting my phone on the other side of the room hours before Iām ready to go to bed, then waking up in the morning and sitting in the silence, stretching, creating my own commute at my home. Then Iāll wake up and have the emails going by nine. Whatever freaky schedule the rest of yāall are on ā waking up at six and working by seven? ā I donāt live that life. It is a lot, though.
Dinnertime is when my girlfriend, Stasia, kinda steps in, and sheās like, āUhh ⦠what the hell are we eating?ā And she made nachos, which were really good, quick nachos with stuff we had chillinā in my refrigerator. Chips, shredded cheese, hamburger meat. āHamburger meatā ā I sound like my mom.It was ground beef.
Stasiaās a very good cook, and it actually takes a lot of pressure off me sometimes ācause Iām just like Yo, have at it, dude. There are rare moments when sheās like, āSo what are we gonna eat?ā And Iām like, āI know youāre not asking me. If itās up to me, weāre eating oatmeal.āĀ
Tuesday, March 2 Oh shit, our refrigerator broke. It was shut down for the day while we had to let it melt and restart. I went to this place BK Bagels on Broadway after the gym with Stasia and got a chicken-caesar-bacon wrap. It was so good. One of the baristas was playing a lot of nostalgic songs from old anime and games like Kingdom Hearts. When I walked in, I was like Whaaat! That was a cute moment.
After that, I made Louisiana-style red beans and rice in my Instant Pot because I had some ham from Chelsea Market. It was my first time seeing tasso ham in New York. So that was a moment. I made the red beans for what felt like a second lunch and also ate that for dinner. Iām all about eating the same thing twice, maybe three times, a day. Making multiple meals right now? That doesnāt make any sense to me.
I make sure I mash the beans up a little bit to get that real good starchy goodness, and itās rare that I ever cook my beans without some type of seasoning meat, you know? Iām gonna find some kind of meat to put in there.
My mom taught me how to cook for multiple moments and also taught me the power of leftovers. Now that I live alone, Iām like, How do I knock all these pins down with one ball? My mom really instilled that in me ācause it wasnāt just me. It was my stepdad, my brothers, her. I work in an industry where a lot of people eat with their eyes. A lot of people look at food for content; brands are looking for new whatever. Itās a lot. Yeah, Iāll do that, but whatās most sustainable for meis to make sure I have something I can eat for two days. If I ate something for dinner, Iām probably going to put an egg on it and eat it for breakfast. Itās like how to repurpose a shirt for five different outfits. We gotta save money out here.
We watched the Bachelor that night. I still have to watch the last episode, but I know who Matt chose. This season is just not giving what the girls said it was supposed to give!
I know itās reality TV, but I shouldnāt know itās reality TV. You can see the way the producers are pulling the strings, like freaking Victoria? I was like ⦠they really have the knife to his back. Someone bring back Big Brother. Thatās some good reality TV.
Wednesday, March 3 I ate the beans for breakfast. Turned the refrigerator back on. I basically got all my groceries from my landlord below me. Great people, fun people. Put the groceries back in there and was like, āWe need to get out the house and go do something.ā We wonāt be able to eat things for a while, so we decided to go for a walk.
We went to Saraghina and got some tea and a brioche loaf. Walking even farther, I wanted a pastry from Pilar, but they were closed so we walked farther to Clementine, which is vegan. We got some poppinā strawberry vegan cream-cheese Danishes. I had never experienced a vegan version of that. I was very impressed! I have to note I donāt have a gigantic sweet tooth. It just really has to hit me. I also picked up a super-chunky fudge-y walnut brownie they had.
We then just took a really beautiful scenic walk around the neighborhood and back home. That day was really nice. I think that was one of the first days that it actually warmed up. The girls were out and about, wearing their outfits, so that was really nice.
For dinner, Stasia pulled together this red-sauce pasta with leftover sweet Italian sausage I had frozen. We used some canned tomatoes I had up in the pantry. I was like, Wow, love being quick on your toes ā love an improv. Ā We used cavatappi. Some swirly, childish-lookinā pasta is my go-to ācause it holds on to the sauce.
Thursday, March 4 We had that brioche from Saraghina, so I woke up wanting a breakfast sandwich.I try to keep bacon in the house at all times. Bacon needs to be a staple seasoning in this apartment. Egg, avocado, garlic Vegenaise, and bacon. That was real good.
I did a demo for Women of Nike. They had this fun internal event. I hosted Nikeās Athleteās Cookbook season two, and they invited me to do that again. I didnāt do lunch; I just went and bought what I needed for that event. And then I made mango-tahini no-bake granola bars.
If I had it my way, I would take an entire week to prepare for one virtual event because it wipes me out. It wipes me out every time. I have tripods set up, and I have a bakers rack. I have my phone in case I need it. I use my laptop and kind of prop it up on some cookbooks, so I can talk to people and then I have the ring light behind that. Itās not sustainable, I have to be frank. Iām like, Someone, please just come and give me a show and let me record in their studio. It looks a little crazy. When Iām done with an event, I donāt even clean up. I go sit on the couch.
Stasia came and made me a burger when I was done that I ate on the couch. Sheās really good at that, too. Just a very big burger and some tater tots. When Iām trying to save money and not cook as well, Stasia just plays Chopped with my home and figures it out.
Friday, March 5 I ate the maple-tahini bars that I made for Nike. I ate those in the morning, then I was lounging around, not trying to do anything, and then I remembered, Oh my God, my second vaccine appointment! So then I rushed out with no charge on my phone to get my vaccine. That was a very joyous experience. They told me this one would be a little tougher, and I said, āYeah, sure! Itāll be fine!ā
I made some poāboys, recording it for my YouTube channel, and that was very exhausting. I really felt like it took all day. But they were really good. Was I satisfied with the filming? No. Weāll have to do that again. But Stasia and I had the poāboys.
For dinner, I had the mango sorbet. I just ate it straight from the container and then I went to sleep ā only to wake up thinking I had died. That second shot knocked me on my face: chills, a 101-degree fever. I wanted my mommy. It felt like, I gotta go home from school ācause Iām scared. Other friends said they only got a little feverish, so I guess itās a mixed bag.
Danny & Aaron | Gay Jewish Wedding at Paramount Studios, Hollywood, USA
An EPIC Jewish wedding film by Buckley Videography ( featuring the love story of two grooms who ride down the aisle atop a horse dressed as a unicorn (or Jew-nicorn, as they dubbed it!) to the tune of Madonnaās Like a Virgin. And thatās just for startersā¦. View the real wedding feature and the story behind the wedding in the grooms’ own words at
āI didnāt earn the name Angel-faced Assassin because I give good fucking hugs. And if they donāt know that, theyāve got no idea whatās coming.ā
When we read the synopsis and trigger warning on The Brit by Jodi Ellen Malpas we knew we had to read it! Anything mafia, dark romance that comes with warnings is our jam! We also heard that this is nothing like the books weāve read before by this much-loved author. Ā So of course we dived straight in and wow, we have to say we fell in book love immediately. We could not put this book down for love nor money. It was sexy, it had great character depth and dynamic and the storyline was compelling. If you love dark romance, strong and fierce heroines and ruthless obsessed anti-heroes then The Brit definitely needs to be on your to-read list. The chemistry between Danny Black and Rose Lillian Cassidy was potent, the sexual tension on fire and the angst, palpable.
āI want to fucking kill you.ā He brings his face down, closer, allowing me to see the murder etched across it. āThen kill me,ā I breathe. āAnd make it slow and painful.ā āWhat the hell are you?ā Heās completely stunned. āIām a heartbeatā¦.Iām nothing, Danny Black. And you are God.ā
The Brit is fast-paced and if youāre like us youāll literally inhale it and not come up for air until you turn the last page. Itās certainly gritty, tense and dark, but we hereby dare Jodi Ellen Malpas to go even further on the mafia and cold anti-hero aspect. She can -without question- do this as Danny was luscious in every fucked up way and the suspenseful and thrilling storyline; just perfection. Dare we say out loud that Danny is our new favourite Malpas hero? Honestly, he was to die for! And as for Rose, what can we say other than hands down our new favourite heroine from this Author. The way in which she was written felt fresh and new from Jodi and there was no repetition nor living in her head. She was fabulous and we loved her.
āNo one has ever protected me before. I donāt want to like it. Liking something makes it more painful when you no longer have it, and protection isnāt something I can keep.ā
We want more like this from Jodi Ellen Malpas because she nailed it, our only gripe was that there was no epilogue and it just kind of ended quite abruptly. We fully believe in the perfection and value a great epi brings to the reader and also weāre just greedy like that! As for the twists, we never saw a few of them coming which we loved! What a brilliant new direction this Author has taken.
āIām sorry if Iāve ever hurt you.ā āIām sorry for letting you.ā
