Eisenbergâs Sandwich Shop, one of New Yorkâs great remaining old-school diners, has closed. Today, writer and editor Susan Chumsky shared a photo of the Flatiron storefront with a fat, ugly âFor leaseâ sign in the window. She captioned it, appropriately, âNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!â Although a source familiar with the situation says the space is being openly shopped to new operators, this person adds that itâs the landlordâs desire to reopen Eisenbergâs.
According to this source, Eisenbergâs owner, Warren Chiu, hasnât paid rent since before the pandemic, and revenues were down significantly before it as well. Chiu is a hotel scion whose father founded Warwick Hotels in 1980, and when he bought the storied lunch counter in 2018, he said his goal was âto keep Eisenbergâs the way it has been.â Last Year, Chiu brought the Eisenbergâs menu to San Franciscoâs Warwick International Hotel; however, a call there didnât yield many answers. An employee of the hotel would say only that âthe owner had moved the menu out to San Francisco.â
Rumors of the shopâs demise have circulated before. As it stands now, Eisenbergâs future is at best uncertain. Itâs never a good sign in New York when a place closes, but in a surprising twist, itâs been said that Chiu doesnât own the intellectual-property rights â so maybe youâll get to eat that tuna melt or the cream-cheeseâandâchopped-olive sandwich again.

She said she made up her mind to “leave this career that my agents and my managers and everybody I know is telling me I’d be crazy to leave. ‘How can you walk away from this? Are you kidding, do you have any idea how many people want you have?’ But it didn’t matter because I didn’t want itâit just wasn’t true to me. And walking away was really difficult, but it was something that I needed to do for my mental health and for my overall peace. And it was difficult. I didn’t know what to do with myself when I didn’t have things that always dictated my identity around anymore.”
Ultimately, she found that once she started pursuing other career avenues, including writing, directing and podcasting, she was no longer “living this lie.” Jennette added, “I’m living a life that’s in accordance with who I am, and that feels a million times better.”

Tellyâs Take
Unless they decide to publicize viewership, it is difficult to predict whether HBO Max will cancel or renew Generation for season two. Since HBO Max isnât ad-supported, it can take a chance on series it believes in and stories that need telling, but sooner or later it comes down to production costs, versus viewership numbers. I suspect that it will be renewed but thatâs just my gut feeling. Iâll keep my ears open and an eye out for news, and will update this page with breaking developments. Arkman seems to be showing no signs of slowing down. The singer begins 2016 with a thought-provoking video for his hit single Vanity.
“Vanity” is one of the more popular songs that rocked Sierra Leone in the last quarter of 2015. Arkman works outside his own box with this one. He delivers a powerful message with the song and his fans will be pleasantly surprised by the direction of this video.
It is an unexpected departure from anything weâve seen from the talented artist till date. Directed by Muctar, Vanity does a spectacular job of merging an intriguing storyline with arresting visuals.
Yorgos Lanthimos enters negotiations with Willem Dafoe for Poor Things
Just over a month after development on the project was first announced, Yorgos Lanthimosâ adaptation of Poor Things is looking to expand its cast as the four-time Oscar nominee has entered talks with fellow four-Oscar nom Willem Dafoe (The Lighthouse) to co-star in the film, according to Deadline.

Itâs currently unclear who Dafoe will portray in the film, but should his deal close it would add another project to the iconic actorâs already-hefty dance card, with other projects including reunions with Wes Anderson for The French Dispatch and Robert Eggers for The Northman, as well as appearing in Guillermo del Toroâs star-studded thriller Nightmare Alley and in Paul Schraderâs The Card Counter alongside Oscar Isaac.
After his Oscar nominated work in The Florida Project, Dafoe has continued to stay very busy and this year is no exception as several projects were pushed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He set to reteam with Wes Anderson on his next pic The French Dispatch and will also reunite with Robert Eggers in The Northman. Other notable credits including appearing alongside Bradley Cooper and Cate Blanchett in Guillermo del Toroâs next film Nightmare Alley, which bows this winter and is also set to appear opposite Oscar Isaac in Paul Schraderâs The Card Counter.
First published in 1992, Poor Things is a Victorian-set novel that will feature Emma Stone, should her deal close, as Bella Baxter â a beautiful young erotomaniac brought back to life with the brain of an infant. It was also inspired by Mary Shellyâs classic gothic novel Frankenstein.

The filmâs official synopsis reads: âOstensibly the memoirs of late-19th-century Glasgow physician Archibald McCandless, the narrative follows the bizarre life of oversexed, volatile Bella Baxter, an emancipated woman, and a female Frankenstein. Bella is not her real name; as Victorian Blessington, she drowned herself to escape her abusive husband, but a surgeon removed the brain from the fetus she was carrying and placed it in her skull, resuscitating her. The revived Bella has the mental age of a child. Engaged to marry McCandless, she chloroforms him and runs off with a shady lawyer who takes her on a whirlwind adventure, hopping from Alexandria to Odessa to a Parisian brothel. As her brain matures, Bella develops a social conscience, but her rescheduled nuptials to Archie are cut short when she is recognized as Victoria by her lawful husband, Gen. Sir Aubrey Blessington.â
The script for the film is being adapted by Lanthimos and Tony McNamara, with whom he also previously worked on Lanthimosâ Oscar-nominated period drama and shared a Best Original Screenplay nomination with Deborah Davis. Production is scheduled to begin this year in the fall.

Besides The Favourite, Stone is also best known for her acclaimed performances in Easy A, Birdman, La La Land, and Battle of the Sexes. She will next be seen in Disneyâs live-action film titled Cruella which centers around the iconic 101 Dalmatian villain Cruella de Vil.

San Holo released a new song today to put you in your feelings.
The production is a smooth, easy listen, working emotional synths and guitar, as well as subtle trap elements to shape a perfect storm of feels. The production builds, and swells, tugging on heart strings before making you want to scream âIT HURTS!â And, thatâs totally ok â just let it out.
San Holo shares of the release:
I wrote âIT HURTSâ about love originally, but just like a lot of my music itâs just as applicable to life in general. There are ups and downs in life and plenty of moments that âhurtâ. Life can be tough. Life can be ugly. But itâs that pain that makes it all ârealâ, whether thatâs pain coming from love, or just the struggles of life in general. Sometimes feeling pain is better than feeling nothing at all. Everything shapes you into who you are â the good and the bad.
Time and time again, San expertly and beautifully melds electronic with instrumental, producer with singer/songwriter, to create something thoughtful and authentic. âIT HURTS!â is no exception.
