Sideshow presents the Asajj Ventress Mythos Statue, joining the galaxy of Star Wars collectibles.

As a collection, Sideshow’s Mythos series are fine art collectibles that allow the collector to imagine what could have been, but maybe never was. Myths meant to be initiated by the eye and completed by the mind.

The Asajj Ventress Mythos Statue measures over 22” tall as the lethal Nightsister stands poised on the growths of a Dathomirian swamp base. Beneath her feet lies a Ssurian skull snared in the vines of her home planet’s native flora as the Sith assassin wields her dual red lightsabers in preparation for battle.

The polystone Asajj Ventress Mythos Statue has PVC elements and features an intricate, fully sculpted costume in the Nightsisters’ traditional black and red hues, detailed with realistic and dynamic fabric-like movement. Her black bodice, leg guards, and gloves all have a wrapped and roughened appearance while her red hood, skirts, and the feathers adorning her shoulders are sculpted with dramatic, billowing flow.

Ventress’s signature pale complexion contrasts with her bold costume, and her hooded portrait features the Zabrak’s signature facial markings around the mouth and eyes. The Asajj Ventress Mythos Statue also includes an alternate portrait with her hood down, revealing her bald head and piercing white gaze, allowing collectors to reveal this enemy of the Jedi with an additional display option.

“Oh, I never really wanted to be a Lord. It wasn’t what you would call an aspiration. But when life throws you time travels, sometimes you gotta make travel-ade.”

Sideshow and Prime 1 Studio are proud to present the Sengoku Joker (Deluxe Version) from Batman Ninja (Animated Film). From the top creators of Japan, Batman Ninja is a Japanese animated film directed by Junpei Mizusaki (“Opening Animation for JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Series”).

Batman Ninja takes a journey across the ages as Gorilla Grodd’s time displacement machine transports many of Batman’s worst enemies to feudal Japan – along with the Dark Knight and a few of his allies. The villains take over the forms of the feudal lords that rule the divided land, with the Joker taking the lead among the warring factions. As his traditional high-tech weaponry is exhausted almost immediately, Batman must rely on his intellect and his allies including Catwoman and the extended Bat-family to restore order to the land and return to present-day Gotham City.

The Statue is inspired by Takashi Okazaki’s stunning design that he created for Batman Ninja Animation. It is crafted with great attention to detail. We also believe it perfectly captures the atmosphere of feudal Japan and the characteristics of Joker. The words on the flag say Devil King Of The Sixth Heaven (Dairokuten-No-Mao/ 第六天の魔王) which is a Devil King from Buddhism.

It is a great companion piece to display next to the Ninja Batman. Make sure to collect these two unique statues!

“Groovy!“

Sideshow and Prime 1 Studio present the 1:3 scale Ash Williams statue from Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn.

Ashley Joanna Williams also known as Ash is the anti-hero protagonist of the Evil Dead series, played by Bruce Campbell, and created by director Sam Raimi. Ash is one of the few non-monster characters in the “Horror” genre to have such notoriety. He is most easily recognized based on his final iconic appearance armed with a sawed-off double barrel shotgun and a chainsaw strapped to the stump on his right arm where his hand once was. Capturing the likeness and details of Bruce Campbell, this Museum Masterline 1:3 scale statue of Ash Williams comes with an additional alternate portrait stepping on a trap door with Henrietta trying to escape from the cabin cellar floor.

The Exclusive version of Ash Williams includes an extra alternate portrait.

Evil Dead fans don’t miss your chance to own Ash with his infamous chainsaw and his sawed-off double barrel shotgun!

The Satsui no Hado has long been a cautionary tale in the Street Fighter franchise, a destructive form of Ki that exploits the baser aspects of humanity, corrupting even the purest of souls. Goutetsu taught it to his student Akuma, who embraced it, and Gouken, who recognized it’s risk, refusing to train his own disciples.

The more we were warned about it, the more we speculated on what would happen if a character as strong as Ryu forsook his education and let the Satsui consume him.

Evil Ryu is our answer, Ryu turned inside out, the surge of murderous intent awakened. He can no longer resist the evil energy within, plunging deeper into darkness with every victory. Purged of all traces of honor and decency, this is a Ryu with a blood thirst and ritualistic belligerence bordering on a feral barbarism. Assuming this anger has made him mindless would be your last mistake, however, as Dark Ryu is perhaps the most calculating and dangerous character in the game.

In Story Mode, we’ve seen Ryu flashback to his fateful fight with Sagat, how his “cheap win” still torments him. Eyes literally red with anger, he unleashed a Metsu Shoryuken so devastating it scarred Sagat’s chest. Disfiguring an opponent was anguishing enough, but what truly frightened and shamed Ryu is how much feeling that power excited him.

But was it an even more pivotal moment in the franchise than we realize?

Sideshow and Pop Culture Shock Collectibles are proud to present their independent 1:4 scale Evil Ryu statue, a unique sculpt created from the actual CG model, and not just a palette swap.

This is Ryu stained with the blood of death, Supreme Master of the Fist, brutal and murderous, looking for the one that can defeat him. The fine artists at Pop Culture Shock have perfectly captured his menace and power, perfecting all his signature elements, from his animalistic fangs to his Akuma-like spikey inferno of hair. And of course, no Evil Ryu would be complete without the gaping crater to hell burned into his chest, or that scar on his back that looks ominously like a “Heaven” kanji.

This high-quality polystone collectible features Evil Ryu in his DLC Player 2 tailored cloth costume, LEDs in the eyes, chest, and back and a screaming portrait. This collectible also has a certificate of authenticity.

Evil Ryu Dark Hado Street Fighter Statue – $269.99
from: Sideshow Inc.

Pop Culture Shock is proud to present Oro, Street Fighter III‘s residential senjutsu master. A longtime favorite of owner Jerry Macaluso, this bizarre brawler is finally coming to life in life-like detail cast in poly-stone resin.

“Oro is such a great character and he’s really underserved in terms of product that’s been made for Street Fighter,” said Mr. Macaluso, “I am glad we can help fix that.”
PCS’s team of professional sculptors have outdone themselves with this statue, putting eye-popping attention-to-detail in every crease and fold of the ancient one’s anatomy. A weather-worn garment completes the look of the cave-dwelling legendary fighter.

Oro is a hermit of Japanese descent who is over 140 years old, having mastered the secrets of immortality. He lives in a deep cave within the Amazon. Although he may not seem very strong, his lack of attachments has allowed him to exceed his legendary fighting skills beyond those of an ordinary person, though he does seem to have a weakness for cute girls. He attained such extraordinary abilities through the mastery of an extreme fighting style known as senjutsu (仙術?). He sets out on a journey to find a worthy successor of his secrets in order to kill time. Through the use of magic, he sealed one of his arms in order to even the odds in favor of his opponents.

CharlestheFirst Delivers Experimental Bass with “SOLUS” LP via Label w/ No Name [LISTEN]

0

After three years since his last full-length album, CharlestheFirst returns with his third album, SOLUS. The body of work is a release through Label w/ No Name, which also hosts CharlestheFirst’s 2018 album, Ascent.

Across 13 tracks the album manages to remain cohesive while maintaining diversity in sounds and emotion. SOLUS features deep dub, psychedelic, glitchy, atmospheric and sometimes eerie bass, while expanding on the hip-hop influence found in previous CharlestheFirst works.

The low frequencies of deep dub are most prominent in “Foreboding Feeling,” featuring California-based producer Potions, who was also featured on the Ascent album. “Fleeting Memories” features dreamy and glitchy bass with subtle breakbeats and a healthy dose of bass in the latter half of the song.

But the true standouts from SOLUS are its R&B vocal-driven tracks like “Figured U Out” and “For Now.” This seems to be a natural progression for CharlestheFirst, whose music has long been influenced by hip-hop. While some previous CTF songs featured limited vocals, this album makes space for lyrics in a way that we haven’t yet seen from CharlestheFirst.

Alongside the bass-heavy moments like those in “Prophecy,” and “Undoing,” featuring kLL sMTH, SOLUS offers intimate moments in “For Now” and (a personal favorite) “Figured U Out.”

CharlestheFirst takes to Instagram to share a message about the vulnerability behind the work, saying:

so·lus / ˈsōləs /
Alone or unaccompanied (used especially as a stage direction)

This is a story of the lone journey, a pilgrimage to places previously unknown. A time of challenges that represent growth, and finally looking ones true self in the mirror. A story of solitude. A story of sunrises seen and felt. A story of holding onto love and letting love go. This is Solus, a gift from me to you. I am ecstatic to finally release this body of work, I hope you enjoy 🖤

Listen to the CharlestheFirst’s journey in sound here.

ESPERANZA, AUBERGE RESORTS COLLECTION BREATHES NEW LIFE INTO THE LOS CABOS CULINARY SCENE WITH NEW CHEF TEAM AND ELEMENTAL MENU

0

Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection today introduces a new and discerning team that will lead the resort’s centerpiece restaurant, Cocina del Mar, into a visionary age of culinary excellence in Los Cabos. The private and luxury beach resort names Alexis Palacios as executive chef and Ibrahim Amaya García as chef de cuisine. At the helm as Executive Chef, Palacios has skillfully redesigned menus for all four of Esperanza’s restaurants—including poolside eatery Las Estrellas, beachfront open-air kitchen La Palapa, and lunch restaurant La Terraza Americana in addition to Cocina del Mar—and will lead the resort’s catering and culinary programming. Together, the talented team brings a wealth of experience and knowledge that will revitalize and sustain Cocina del Mar’s reputation among the best restaurants in Mexico.

“We are delighted to welcome both Chef Alexis and Chef Ibrahim to the Esperanza family,” says Marc Rodriguez, general manager, Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection. “Both chefs are well-versed in the seasonal rhythms and bounty of ingredients found here in Baja California and are at the pulse of epicurean trends around the globe. As we conceptualize this next chapter for the resort’s culinary program, they bring newfound creative energy to the team to culminate a one-of-a-kind and authentic experience for our guests.”

The next iteration of Cocina del Mar appears familiar but the ethos driving the menu is renewed. Stepping away from the region’s innate habit of focusing only on seafood, the menu is a holistic experience of all its ingredients, equally balanced by elements of mountains, desert and sea. Organic and sustainably sourced heirloom Baja California ingredients lead the new menu, of which 90 percent comprises natural or house-made items. Whether grown by local farmers, nurtured by the sea before caught by local fishermen, or handmade in Esperanza’s kitchen, elements are thoughtfully combined for a sense of surrounding in each dish.

This approach, highlighting the profusion of regional herbs and produce, advances Cocina del Mar as the epitome of authentic Baja cuisine and makes way for a naturally health-conscious menu. Seafood and complete proteins will be served alongside refreshing and wholesome dishes like aloe vera vegan ceviche, butternut squash with peanut mole sauce and caramelized pumpkin seeds, citronella sorbet, and a fresh carpaccio of cold-pressed melon, local cheese, lemongrass, passionfruit, and honey from a local floral honey farm in the desert. Other localities used include seasonal pitayas, desert mangoes and herbs like damiana. Cocina del Mar’s original roots remain with signature dishes featuring local shellfish such as chocolata clams with cucumber aguachile and fermented black lime, butter clams with jicama root and chili ponzu, scallops with charred avocado and tomatillo pico de gallo, and grilled oysters with kale and prosciutto stew and Oaxacan chili butter. Seafood lovers will delight in salt-crusted totoaba, a white fish endemic to the Gulf of California, with Mexican pepper leaf mojo, plantain purée, red miso butter or San Carlos Shrimps with fresh lemon and black garlic chimichurri.

Palacios was most recently a part of the opening team as Executive Chef at a luxury hotel in Mexico City, where he led two restaurants and three bars and other hotel food and beverage operations. Still, his story begins as a child learning to cook from his mother’s kitchen in Guerrero, Mexico. This is Palacios’ return to Los Cabos—where he tenured in the kitchens at other luxury resorts in Los Cabos before his time in Mexico City—and a homecoming to Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection. Between the years of 2009 and 2011, he served as Executive Sous Chef at the resort. Now, as Executive Chef, Palacios will lead the kitchens of Esperanza’s four dining outlets and culinary touchpoints across the property, including special events, groups and weddings catering, and the revival of Ignacio’s Garden among other key programs.

With a palate as colorful as his sneaker collection, Palacios instills various new techniques in Cocina del Mar’s new menu. As a master fermenter, Palacios has already pioneered new signature styles and dishes using this modus operandi to create complex flavor. Guests can expect to discover vinegar using grapes from Ignacios’ Garden, the resort’s garden located on property, and “black onion,” a technique that uses a well-aged onion and fermenting it to develop flavors similar to balsamic. He has already introduced his 20-year-old tepache (a Mexican style kombucha) recipe, quickly becoming a guest favorite. Palacios also brings a heightened display of dry aging. The trend can be experienced through dishes, such as a tiradito (raw) dish of high-quality King Kampachi fish from La Paz served with beet vinegar and a fresh take on breakfast with Chilaquiles featuring tomatillo pico de gallo and local dehydrated meat infused with chiles.

“To me, ultra-luxury in dining means providing guests with new things on their plate that they haven’t experienced before,” says Alexis Palacios, executive chef, Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection. “When guests dine at Cocina del Mar or any of Esperanza’s culinary outlets, I want them to discover the unique flavor profiles, organic produce, and wide selection of seafood and meat available that combined define the cuisine authentic to Baja.”

Alongside Palacios, Chef de Cuisine Ibrahim Amaya García joins the Esperanza team from a beloved restaurant in nearby Todos Santos, where he trained with renowned Mexican Chef Javier Plascencia. Originally from La Paz, Amaya García’s style highlights complete proteins, specifically pork, with simple, rustic ingredients and techniques using fire and smoke–a perfect fit for Cocina del Mar’s existent signature woodfire flavors. Amaya García has already added tatemado, or roasting and braising methods, to the new menu, with dishes such as his Braised Short Rib, for a varied texture portfolio.

“Esperanza and Cocina del Mar perfectly marry the personal style I’ve developed through my past experiences with the challenges and growth I am looking for in my future,” says Ibrahim Amaya García, chef de cuisine, Esperanza, Auberge Resorts Collection. “I’m thrilled to be a part of this next chapter as we establish Cocina del Mar as the best restaurant in Cabo.”

As both chefs are native to Mexico, they have established deep relationships with farmers, fishermen and other Baja producers. While using local ingredients, they demonstrate the importance of respect for animals and the environment with zero-waste cooking methods. Guests can experience Esperanza’s commitment to this first hand by partaking in culinary journeys such as Sea Foraging excursion to hand-pick seafood for a flavorful dish, traditional cooking classes and those special for kids, or Asado by the Sea oyster and clambake–all of which pair perfectly with the Mexican Wine Journey, featuring incredible wines from Valle de Guadalupe, or a Mezcal Tasting.

ESPERANZA, AUBERGE RESORTS COLLECTION BREATHES NEW LIFE INTO THE LOS CABOS CULINARY SCENE WITH NEW CHEF TEAM AND ELEMENTAL MENU

1

The story, the team and everything about this movie kept nothing but comedy in mind and have delivered what they promised — a rip roaring comedy. Kamal essays the role of a professional stuntman, who religiously believes in remaining bachelor and Simran palys a self sufficient, feministic, men-hating doctor. They are invariably forced to bump into each other by their mutual friends Abbas and Sneha. Both help Abbas and Sneha to elope and get married. But finally Abbas misses his opportunity to go to Australia. So he finds his wife Sneha leaving him, in charge of the household chores. A frustrated Abbas goes to his friend Kamal for help to get back his upper hand over his wife. While Simran counsels Sneha not to submit to the authority of her husband. As both Sneha and Abbas are being brainwashed by their respective friends, it leads to a string of comic incidents. In one such event, Kamal who is a stunt master meets with an accident during a shooting scene. Simran being a doctor operates on Kamal, but commits the blunder of sewing her watch inside Kamal during the operation. With her profession and reputation at stake, she finds it difficult to pin Kamal down to the operation table and re-operate him. So she decides to play as the love-struck damsel and finally fetches the watch back out of Kamal. But Kamal who by now is smitten by Simran, is completely shattered when he learns about the truth. So he finally agrees to marry the girl his parents have arranged even as Simran is reflecting on her feelings for Kamal. Kamal excels in his role –as always. But Simran proves with her performance that she has more to offer than just being a glamorous heroine and deserves a definite applause. With this kind of a setting there is enough room for Mouli the director and script writer Crazy Mohan to set the ball rolling so fast that you have to be quick to assimilate all humor between the lines too.

Beauty Executive Esi Eggleston Bracey On The Importance Of Fighting Hair Discrimination

0

There’s a saying that goes, “If you want something done, let Black women do it.” Esi Eggleston Bracey, chief operating officer and EVP Beauty and Personal Care for Unilever North America, is a shining example of that adage. No stranger to the world of beauty — or getting things done —she’s held high profile executive roles in Procter & Gamble and COTY, and most recently, has led the charge for Dove’s CROWN Act (Create a Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair).

Last year, Dove celebrated a major milestone in the fight against hair discrimination when California became the first state to pass a law banning natural hair discrimination. They also launched National Crown Day on July 3 to celebrate the day the CROWN Act legislation was signed into law.

The CROWN Act legislation is designed to formally tackle race-based hair discrimination in the workplace and schools and protecting Black women and men’s right to wear their natural hair, braids, locs, twists, bantu knots and more. Eggleston Bracey and her team are working tirelessly to help end hair discrimination nationwide.

Twenty-three states have introduced CROWN legislation including Georgia, Florida and Arizona.

BET.com spoke with Esi Eggleston Bracey about the importance of the CROWN Act and her own natural hair journey. This interview has been edited for clarity and length.

BET.com: What made you fight so passionately to end hair discrimination with the Crown Act?

Esi Eggleston Bracey: As a Black woman, it’s an issue that’s deeply personal to me and has impacted me. But even more importantly, it’s just so much in the middle of what Dove’s life work is. Dove has been a longtime champion for beauty inclusivity. It’s very committed to each and every person, woman, and girl having a positive experience with beauty. We see in the Black community, and other underserved communities, that the narrow beauty standards of the world don’t always include us. And when we talk to women, especially Black women, it always comes down to our hair and all the negative associations and stereotypes that come with our hair. So it was just obvious that this is an area that Dove could help and it was committed to making the change. So it’s not just me, but the whole Dove community and team who are tirelessly championing to eradicate hair discrimination.

BET.com: What’s your message for Black women in the workplace who have faced discrimination?

Esi Eggleston Bracey: One, is that they’re not alone. Dove commissioned a study where we found that Black women are 80 percent more likely to change our natural hair to meet social norms or expectations at work. So many times you think it’s your struggle alone but 80 percent of Black women know all too well what it’s like to have to pretend or hide behind who we naturally are. Our hair is a part of who we are, it’s more than something that’s superficial. Our hair is a part of the world getting the benefit of what we can bring. So that’s what we say to Black women on behalf of Dove.

BET.com: Can you share a pivotal moment in your own hair journey and how it impacted your career?

Esi Eggleston Bracey: It was actually in 1995 when I went natural. Before I went natural, I wore a straight bob, and I started in corporate America in 1991. When I was younger, of course, before I got perms I would wear braids and beads and I was really comfortable in my natural hair. But as I got older, it was clearer that to be accepted I needed to wear my hair straight. That was just universally accepted. It was almost reinforced, even in the black community, that straight was the popular hairstyle. So I went through the rest of high school and college and then onto corporate America thinking that it was a standard that I needed to comply with to fit in and look professional.

It was almost like I was on autopilot just abiding with what the societal norms were. Then I went to a diversity training that opened my eyes to the challenges that women and people of color have in their workplace. It surrounded what we do to conform and how it makes it even harder for new people to come in and be themselves because we’re leading others to believe that it’s okay to conform. I thought, ‘Oh my God, I’m complicit in this.’ And I was such a champion for diversity, but in that, I was complicit. So I grew out my perm, cut it off and wore a short natural. My hair was probably a half of an inch.

When I look at my passport pictures from back then, I see someone who cut their hair as a champion for diversity. But what I got from it longterm was incredible freedom. I didn’t even realize how my hair was oppressing me. All I had to do was go to the barbershop and get my haircut every now and then, and wash it everyday in the shower. It was like rejuvenation. But even more, it was like my career started taking off once I cut my hair. I was really marching to my own beat. It made me have such a heavy heart for people that don’t have the opportunity to be themselves and express themselves in their lives and in the workplace. That’s why the Crown Act is so important because it legislates and it’s not okay to say women and men can not come to work or school or compete in matches like Andrew Johnson who was forced to cut his locks or compete in this championship wrestling match. It is not okay. Dove and the Crown Coalition are legislating so that it is fully considered discrimination like gender or racial discrimination. I’ve had that experience of hair freedom and we all should be entitled to it.

BET.com: What did it mean to you to have seven states pass the Crown Act at the state level last year?

Esi Eggleston Bracey: I view the success of the Crown Act from Dove and the Crown Coalition as a testament to the strength of the community. What it says to me is, ‘Yes, we can.’ When I look at the grassroots organizations, historically Black colleges and sororities, the Jack and Jill’s, and all the legislative officials who have championed this in their states — like Senator Holly Mitchell in California, it’s remarkable. In most of these cases, it’s Black women standing up and saying, ‘Yes, we can make this happen,’ and it did in seven states. It was Dove and the Crown Act that made it happen.

But I also see opportunity because we’re not going to stop until this is federal law. I’m really proud that we’ve made progress on that because we passed in the US House Of Representatives as well. Our next step is the Senate. Our work is not over.

BET.com: What are your plans for the future as it relates to the Crown act and driving to amplify the voices of Black women and their experiences in the workplace?

Esi Eggleston Bracey: We’re talking about four centuries of oppression and opportunity here. It’s shifted from the civil rights act, voting rights act so much more, and now, the Crown Act. So there’s so much more to do. CROWN stands for creating a respectful and open world for natural hair. We know hair discrimination is one part of overall discrimination, and we’re committed to having an even bigger impact.

So now the “N” in “CROWN” stands for no racism. So we’ve made an even bigger commitment to help fight against systemic racism and amplify voices of Black women and their experiences related to their hair and other issues. That’s why we’ve developed the Crown Fund, donating $5 million over the next five years to organizations in support of uplifting this mission in the Black community. Some examples are The National Black Child Development Institute. Save A World, Save A Girl, that just names a few. Dove has a legacy over this decade of uplifting, like the Dove Self-Esteem Project, so now, we’re evolving to explicitly address racial injustice and equity because we know our commitment is for generations to come.
