Sal Y Mar Rooftop Bar Now Open in Midtown Tampa

Concord Hospitality Enterprises Company is excited to announce the opening today of its stylish new rooftop bar, Sal Y Mar, high atop the dual-branded Aloft and Element Hotel that recently opened in Midtown Tampa. Sal Y Mar (Salt and Sea) is easily accessible from a dedicated elevator on the hotel’s ground floor and is open Sunday through Thursday from 4 p.m. to midnight, and Friday and Saturday from 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Full menus and other information are available at SalYMarRooftop.com. Seating is first-come, first-served.

“It was a tremendous team effort and we couldn’t be happier with the way everything came together to create this exceptional new rooftop experience here in Midtown Tampa,” said Evette Torres, Dual General Manager for Aloft and Element Hotel. “The views are even more spectacular than I had hoped, and we’re thrilled to finally share them with our guests and our new neighbors in what I hope becomes their new favorite hangout in Midtown.”

While taking in 360-degree views of the Tampa, Westshore, and St. Petersburg skylines, guests at Sal Y Mar can experience a mouth-watering collection of tapas, from Citrus Crab Cakes and Vegetable Bruschetta, to more authentic Spanish treats such as Carne Asada Street Tacos and Pan Seared Scallops with mango puree, plantain crisp, and pico de gallo. The menu was created by Executive Chef Stephanie Bisogne and showcases the freshest possible local ingredients in a surprising assortment of salads and entrees, including Filet Mignon, Pan-seared Grouper, Chipotle-charred Chicken and more, along with a small selection of fresh-made desserts to provide a sweet ending to any meal. Sal Y Mar also serves a wide array of classic and artisanal craft cocktails, local craft beers, wines and bubbles for guests to enjoy as they toast another Florida sunset.



Drawing on Mayan influences from the Mexican coastal town of Tulum, the space is dressed in earth tones and coastal organic finishes, with fresh crisp linens, bamboo ceiling and comfortable hanging hammock chairs. Whether gathered for happy hour, special events, or a fun evening out with friends, guests can enjoy panoramic skyline views of the Bay area through floor-to-ceiling windows or the open air. The unique 4,900-square-feet space will also provide a new option for private social or corporate gatherings. Sal Y Mar can comfortably accommodate up to 71 guests inside and 118 outdoors.

23. Playing Catherine—the reason that, no, we will not help you load your chair into your van at night, Strange Man—was a huge break for Smith, who despite a prolific career is at peace with forever being known as “the girl in the pit” from The Silence of the Lambs.

But Demme, who didn’t even make her read for the part, sensed that she belonged in that pit.

“Those were the days when they trusted the director enough that there wasn’t a whole committee that approved me,” Smith told Vulture. “He met with me, talked with me, told me what it was gonna be. I remember him asking me, ‘Why do you wanna do this?’ Which is a very good question. I remember it was because I thought I couldn’t. I just thought, I don’t think I can do this. So he gave me the part. I had to gain 25 pounds, which was really fun. I was also just coming out of my life in punk rock, and entering my life as an actress.’

Not turned off by the dark material at all, she recalled, “I was like, ‘Let’s go for it.’ There were certain agents at the time who told me not to do it, which I think is hilarious now. I kinda did then, too. I was like, ‘I’m gonna say no?!’ They thought I’d be stereotyped, locked into the fat-girl category. [Though she was hardly fat, Buffalo Bill’s victims were supposed to be “roomy,” using Lecter’s word, so that he could loosen their skin by starving them.] They said it would be very hard to get out of. Which is not completely untrue. But there was no way I wasn’t going to do it.”

To prepare herself for being stuck in a pit in a psychopath’s dungeon, she locked herself in her parents’ basement closet to mimic the close, dark confines. Before filming, she had nightmares about being in that situation and panicking over whether she’d try to escape (Catherine does put a plan into motion involving Bill’s beloved dog, Precious) or just accept her fate and die.

“I’m not gonna lie,” she said, “I had some issues going on, and I remember thinking that was the difference between Catherine and myself. I didn’t have as much self-worth back then. It wasn’t the most obvious thing for me to do. And that made me sort of examine, ‘Okay, wait a minute, why don’t I wanna live?’ I’m making it sound a little more than it was, but, I just remember going, ‘Oh, okay, so what’s going on here?’ And it led me into years of therapy.”

Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith lands Glover & Waller-Bridge to lead/create

It’s been three years since audiences last experienced the talents of Donald Glover and Phoebe Waller-Bridge together and now the duo are set to reunite for Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith as they have signed on to star and co-create the series adaptation, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The film, first released in 2005 and penned by Simon Kinberg (Dark Phoenix) and helmed by Doug Liman (Chaos Walking), centered on an upper-class married couple who are surprised to learn that they are assassins at competing agencies and have been assigned to kill each other, with Brad Pitt (Once Upon a Time in Hollywood) and Angelina Jolie (Maleficent) starring in the lead roles.

The series reboot, which was previously attempted in 2007 at ABC, is set to be created by the Atlanta maverick and the Fleabag Emmy winner alongside Francesca Sloane, who previously worked with Glover on his acclaimed FX series and is under an overall deal with Amazon, as is Waller-Bridge. Sloane will serve as showrunner on the series, which is being executive produced New Regency’s Yariv Milchan and Michael Schaefer and Wells Street Films’ Jenny Robins.

“Having had the pleasure of successful collaborations with the incredibly talented Donald Glover, most recently on Guava Island, we all started talking about other projects to do together and when he suggested the idea of a new take and iteration on the New Regency film, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, we jumped at the chance to get going right away,” Milchan and Schaefer said in a statement. “Adding Phoebe and her company Wells Street Films as a collaborator and co-star takes everything up another level and makes the project worthy of a reimagining for both new audiences and past fans of the original film. We are so excited to be working with Donald, Phoebe, Francesca and the entire team at Amazon Studios.”

While the original Mr. & Mrs. Smith wasn’t a critical darling, the chemistry between its stars was praised and it became a box office hit, grossing over $487 million at the global box office. Waller-Bridge and Glover previously starred together in the 2018 Star Wars anthology film Solo as Lando Calrissian and his droid companion and navigator L3-37.

Never Forget Jason Statham’s Rave-Worthy Role in The Shamen’s Music Video

We could all use a good throwback — so let us adore action hero Jason Statham in his “oiled up buff guy” role for The Shamen‘s rave-worthy music video for “Comin’ On.”

Before he took on rugged blockbuster parts for Snatch, Crank, Spy, the Fast & Furious series and so many more, Statham landed this compelling role where he was featured dancing in leopard print briefs. With all psychedelic forces at work in the video, he somehow still manages to steal the show.

This by no means is the first time Statham has been identified in The Shamen’s music video — it’s been a known fact for years (just read the YouTube comments). But now that it has recently resurfaced, we figured why not revisit the classic.

By the way, Statham seems to have an affinity for dance music, as he also appeared in Calvin Harris‘ 2014 music video for “Summer.” Someone needs to cast him again immediately.

Watching this back, the ’90s raver kid in all of us is screaming. Enjoy!
