"Águilas y Cuervos"//Cuban Jazz Guitar//Richard Padrón Trio//New York Music//World Fusion

19

We are thrilled to bring you this sound and video offering recorded in my studio on January 8th, 2021. In spite of all the repeated injustice, ridiculous madness, and strife, we are bringing you this document that is generated from a center of purity, compassion, and love. I am incredibly humbled by my band mates contributions, Kenny and Carlos. Kenny and I attended high school together back in 1998. Carlos and I met back in 2010 playing with Michael Philip Mossman. This was our first true encounter in over a year, and it feels like no one has missed a beat.
Here we are exploring certain Afro-Cuban elements dealing with syncopation, poly rhythmic variety, and a hybrid clave ostinato during the solo section. My favorite format has always been the piano trio, or a cuban quartet format that includes congas or percussion. Examples I can think of are Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Chucho Valdez and RubĂŠn Gonzalez. My technical approach allows me to orchestrate my phrases with a more pianistic style of articulation. The use of hybrid picking and the pinky finger are crucial in executing the chordal and linear structures. Cuban Jazz Guitar trio would best describe the format, and the approach we are exploring in this video. Undoubtedly, there are also elements that are stemming directly from listening to guitarists like Allan Holdsworth, John McLaughlin and Pat Martino. This music is a diffusion of my Cuban heritage, Miami upbringing, and the New York musical journey of the last 20 years. A very special thanks to D’Addario Strings for providing me with strings and cables, Gabriel Kirchheimer and Studio Chill, ZĂŠ Luis Oliveira, Iuri Oriente, Onel Mulet, Juan Caballero and Pedro Grey.

This representation of Aguilas Y Cuervos is simplified from its original version that will be found on our soon to be released second studio record, Cuban Reflections.
Here is a link to our current studio album.

Stay safe and healthy everyone and thank you for the support!

10 Valentine’s Day Movies That Prove Love Is the Worst

0

Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in Eyes Wide Shut (1999).

Valentine’s Day isn’t just for lovers. On a day that calls for revisiting your favorite romantic movies, it’s nice to do the exact opposite. Below, we break down the most chaotic, unhinged, toxic, and disturbed relationships that have ever graced the screen for your Valentine’s Day viewing pleasure.

———

Fatal Attraction (1987)

“I’m not gonna be ignored, Dan!” For a textbook definition of the word “unhinged,” look no further than Glenn Close in Fatal Attraction. Close plays a woman named Alex who becomes obsessed with a married man (Michael Douglas) after their one-night stand. From there, chaos, and one boiled rabbit, ensues.

———

Misery (1990)

Before there was stan culture, there was Annie Wilkes in Misery. When an author named Paul Sheldon (James Caan) is rescued by his self-proclaimed “number one fan” Annie, played by Kathy Bates , she holds him captive and terrorizes him for days. Come for Bates’ Oscar-winning performance, stay for that scene.

———

Eyes Wide Shut (1999)

Stanley Kubrick movies are not for the faint of heart, and Eyes Wide Shut is no exception. Shortly before their relationship’s demise, real-life married couple Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise work through their issues as married couple Alice and William Harford. Much has been written about the diffcult shoot—to be expected on a Kubrick production—but the result is an undeniable masterpiece.

———

High Fidelity (2000)

If you happened to have missed the television reboot of High Fidelity starring Zoë Kravitz, the original premise is simple. Rob (John Cusak), a record store owner, breaks down his top five breakups. Co-starring Kravitz’s mother Lisa Bonet, it’s the perfect movie to watch if you’re still salty about that crush who broke your heart in middle school. You are not alone.

———

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004)

Manic pixie dream girls, gather round. When Joel (Jim Carrey) and Clementine’s (Kate Winslet) relationship goes south, they undergo a procedure to have each other erased from their memories in this Michel Gondry-directed classic. How romantic.

———

Blue Valentine (2010)

Ryan Gosling loves a good tearjerker. He and Michelle Williams play Dean and Cindy, a married couple who are constantly going through it. If you enjoy watching people argue while their lives crash down around them, pull up a chair and stay a while.

———

Black Swan (2010)

On the surface, this may not appear to be a Valentine’s Day movie, but there’s just enough toxic romance in there to qualify for this list. Natalie Portman and Mila Kunis play rival ballet dancers Nina and Lily who then become lovers. The only problem? One of them isn’t real. There’s nothing like some imaginary and unrequited love to get the heart racing.

———

Her (2013)

Have you ever wondered what it’d be like to fall in love with your computer? Spike Jonze did. In this truly tragic motion picture, Joaquin Phoenix starts to develop intense feelings for his operating system, voiced to smoky perfection by Scarlett Johansson. Though it seems ridiculous, these days, it doesn’t seem all that farfetched.

———

Ex Machina (2014)

Speaking of falling in love with machines, Domhnall Gleeson does exactly that in Alex Garland’s Ex Machina. When he’s sent to gauge the human-like qualities of the AI robot Ava (Alicia Vikander), he quickly becomes infatuated with her. Unfortunately for him, she doesn’t feel the same way.

———

The Lobster (2015)

In a dystopian world, single people (including Rachel Weisz and Colin Farrell) are tasked with finding a partner in 45 days. If they fail, they get turned into an animal. Who said romance was dead? Clearly not writer-director Yorgos Lanthimos.

THE BUNGALOW KITCHEN BY MICHAEL MINA AND BRENT BOLTHOUSE COMING TO THE CALIFORNIA COAST

0

Award-winning chef Michael Mina and hospitality veteran Brent Bolthouse are thrilled to expand their joint partnership in Southern and Northern California with the opening of The Bungalow Kitchen, a brand new restaurant concept. The new social dining experience and community clubhouse is set to open first in Long Beach, California at Belmont Shore (2nd & PCH) in early 2021, followed by a Tiburon (5 Main Street) location in Marin County, California, on March 4, 2020.

Mina and Bolthouse first teamed up in 2018 to expand The Bungalow, which was conjured from Bolthouse’s rich imagination when he opened the first venue in 2012. The Bungalow’s existing lounge spaces in Santa Monica, CA and Huntington Beach, CA, have established themselves as two of Southern California’s hottest destinations. The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore and Tiburon are the duo’s first collaboration in the social dining space.

The Bungalow Kitchen will bring a chic and bohemian atmosphere, California Cuisine heavily inspired by local, seasonal ingredients, a classic cocktail program, and an expansive wine list to both unbeatable waterfront destinations. Menu highlights include pristine shellfish served either ice-cold or hot charcoal-grilled; garden “punch” bowl, featuring crunchy, ice-cold garden vegetables served with Gazpacho shooters and three dipping sauces: Green Goddess, romesco and lemon-poppyseed; a comforting Short Rib ‘Pop-Tart’ topped with crispy shallots and drizzled with sauce bordelaise; signature house-made pizzas such as the Carbonara Pizza white pie with Crispy Guanciale, Yukon Gold potatoes, Pecorino Romano and drizzled with a poached farm egg; and Chef Michael Mina’s signature decadent Lobster Pot Pie featuring a whole Maine lobster, truffle-lobster bisque and root vegetables.

“Brent is a longtime friend of mine, his incredible vision, amazing personality, and the humility he carries himself with has allowed him to be successful decade over decade in this industry,” says Mina. “We are so excited to collaborate on our first brand new restaurant concept and to utilize his deep roots in the industry with the launch of The Bungalow Kitchen. Both restaurants will highlight my version of California cuisine and emphasize the incredible bounty and purveyors of the regions in which they are located.  Our goal is to bring a warm and comforting place that will feel like an extension of the living room you always wanted.”

“The original plans for Belmont Shore were to open the third Bungalow location, but Michael and I quickly shifted gears to rebrand and pivot to The Bungalow Kitchen in response to the pandemic, opting to launch our new brand concept there first,” said Bolthouse. “The Bungalow Kitchen Tiburon had been in the works for quite some time, and we’ve long wanted to re-create the striking and luxurious feel of an elegant, exclusive clubhouse on an accessible community level. It’s the most innovative restaurant project I have ever been a part of, and we can’t wait to bring this to the communities of Long Beach and Tiburon.”

About The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore

The Belmont Shore location is designed by local Venice, CA-based design firm Studio Collective, who have designed some of the most coveted destinations in hospitality; from the beautifully rich hotel interiors of The Landsby Inn in Solvang and Downtown LA’s Hotel Figueroa to the charming comfort of The Bungalow at Fairmont Miramar Hotel & Bungalows in Santa Monica and the sophisticated surroundings of some of the nation’s most in-demand restaurants such as La Huella in Miami and Giada in Las Vegas.  The 10,000 square foot venue will have an eclectic, residential vibe rich in custom furnishings and layered with unique artwork. Designed with the intent to create an atmosphere of attending a fabulous dinner party, The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore is unlike anything loyal fans of The Bungalow brand have seen previously.

This specific venue gives the nod to the rich architectural history and the Long Beach community’s punk-rock edge. It puts a unique and utterly contemporary spin on the traditional Craftsman bungalow, maintaining certain classic structural elements (wood plank ceilings, large fireplaces, a covered porch) while simultaneously taking a sledgehammer to others and exposing what remains (wood stud and plywood walls, concrete floors, select structural members) and adds the sort of hip, eclectic furnishings one might expect to find in a local musician’s home lend this location an ambiance that is at once comforting and industrial, with a rock-and-roll twist.

Composed of various size and style rooms, the space feels as if it has evolved over time.  Upon entering, guests are greeted by a warm entry lounge with an organic, plaster fireplace and adjacent, built-in plaster seating.  70’s era relics fill the walls, laying the groundwork for what awaits inside.  A plywood corridor displaying a mix of black and white photographs and prints leads guests into the main dining room, where white wood planks line the walls and the vaulted ceiling above.  Anchored on one side by a large fireplace and the other by a copper-topped bar, the dining room is the ideal space to celebrate either a large party or go on date night, with plush, custom sofas providing the perfect seat from which diners can relax and enjoy their meals.  Just off the dining room lies the game room, where a mix of rock and roll nostalgia and rock-inspired artwork are layered over exposed wood stud walls creating the ideal space to shoot a game of pool.  A little further down a small hallway, guests can make their way to the sunroom, where white oak plank walls and millwork provide a more intimate and sophisticated space to escape and enjoy an after-dinner cocktail.  Both the sunroom and the dining room provide entry out to the 3,000 square foot patio where guests can enjoy authentic al fresco dining while overlooking the Marina.  A retractable awning built into a red cedar wood trellis allows patrons to make use of this space year-round comfortably.  A combination of potted and hanging plants adds to the patio’s outdoor feel, while a mix of seating groupings ensure everyone will be able to find their perfect seat on what is sure to be the most desired spot in town.  All in total, The Bungalow Kitchen Belmont Shore looks forward to bringing inspired social dining in an equally unique space and becoming a mainstay for the Long Beach community to enjoy for years to come.

About The Bungalow Kitchen Tiburon

The Tiburon location will be designed by internationally acclaimed architect and interior designer Martin Brudnizki of Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, the mastermind behind some of the most aesthetic venues around the globe, including Annabel’s (London), Park MGM (Las Vegas), The Beekman (New York), Pink Mamma (Paris), and more.

Nearly 12,000 square feet and spread across two floors, the new space’s interiors will have a relaxed residential feel with a contemporary twist and focus on art and artisanal touches. The first-floor bar and lounge area are filled with natural light thanks to a cool-toned palette of blues and pinks and a fully glazed window that opens onto a dining terrace with views across the ocean. An eclectic selection of artwork and objects reflect the bohemian homes of artists from a bygone era, while elevated finishes such as brass and marble ensure the space retains a chic edge. A billiard room and sprawling pergola-roofed terrace on the second floor provide guests with additional areas to sit back and relax while taking in the views and enjoying local cuisine. Verdant planting, rattan finishes, and patterned fabrics round out the venue’s aesthetic.

“The location really guided the design of The Bungalow Kitchen,” said Brudnizki. “The fact it sits right on the water, overlooking the bay, meant we really wanted the interior to connect to the outside. It needed to feel comfortable and be a space where guests could enjoy the views and feel at home. To help achieve this, we included a few residential accents throughout the scheme, layering in fabrics and artwork – all with a subtle nod to the area’s bohemian past.”

Blake Shelton Says He Was “Jumping at the Opportunity” to Be With Gwen

14

When Stephen then kidded that he assumed Gwen “lost a bet,” Blake encouraged the comedian to keep at it. “Bring it on, I can take it, I can take it,” he said. “Trust me, I understand.”

He added, “You can’t blame me for jumping at the opportunity, though.” This led the host to emphatically agree.

Blake must be getting used to these types of exchanges, as this one mirrored a chat he had with Today‘s Natalie Morales on Feb. 10 about the Super Bowl spot.

“Every day, if I look at social media or wherever, there’s always somebody commenting, going, ‘Man, what the hell happened to this world where Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton are a thing now,'” Blake said with a smile. “So we thought it’d be fun to have some fun with it.”

THE THINGS WE LEAVE UNFINISHED by REBECCA YARROS

16

‘You’re right. Love – the good, the real, the life-changing – is rare. You have to fight for it..’

There’s a saying – ‘write what you know’ and when it comes to military stories with pure heart-driven emotion, Rebecca Yarros really knows how to put her heart and soul into her stories. Something which is evident in The Things We Leave Unfinished – an emotional and exquisitely told love story within a love story. Faultlessly shifting her worlds between the horrors of WWII and present time. This is a book that was made to be brought to life with its spectacular imagery – this book needs to be made into a movie!

‘There’s a warning, a sound your heart makes the first time it realizes it’s no longer safe with the person you trusted.’

All you need to know about this book is covered by the author in her synopsis and you would be doing yourself an injustice if you didn’t go into this book blind and allow the author to lead you page by page through her heart-rending words.

In present time we meet Noah Harrison, a brilliant and popular author known for his ‘poignant’ endings, and according to Georgia Stanton, his less than stellar love scenes. Oh, if only she knew how stellar this man was – in more ways than she could imagine! Noah quite literally bumps into Georgia Stanton, the 28-year-old Great Granddaughter of much-loved romance author Scarlett Stanton, known for her beautiful HEA’s.

‘Lord, that man even made writing look sexy. His shirtsleeves were pushed up his forearms, and his brow was furrowed in concentration as his fingers flew over the keyboard’

Fast forward and we see Noah tasked with the job of finishing a manuscript started by Georgia’s grandmother, documenting her epic and searing soulmate love story set amidst the horrors and fears of World War Two. Everyone wants to get their hands on this manuscript, from production companies to Georgia’s greedy mother, but Georgia is guarding her Great Grandmothers story with her life. To her, Jameson Stanton and Scarlett Wright had a once in a lifetime love story.

“That’s the kind of love that stories are written about, Georgia. The kind that makes people believe it has to be out there for them, too.”

However, she does entrust their love story to Noah with a few caveats to ensure he creates the ending she feels Jameson and Scarlett deserve. What’s lurking in Scarlett’s unfinished manuscript and her letters she’s kept all these years, until her passing at the ripe old age of 100?

When we say this was a love story within a love story, we have two romances – Jameson and Scarlett’s and the evolving relationship between feisty Georgia and the headstrong Noah, though Noah certainly revealed his vulnerable side and we absolutely loved both heroes.

“I’ve been waiting my entire life to touch you.”

Set in the past in war-torn England, and present-day in Poplar Grove, Colorado, Rebecca Yarros does a wonderful job of bringing these settings to directly to our senses – we smelt the war, we heard the bombs, we felt the heartache, and in present-day, we felt as though we could breathe in the mountain air and visualise the picturesque scenery. Such vivid imagery heightened all our senses.

Georgia had been betrayed too many times to count and as such, had become hardened and cynical, and we couldn’t blame her – trust didn’t come easy for Georgia, however, there were times we felt she was a little unfair on Noah. Or maybe Noah was such a beautiful character we saw past his flaws?

“Gran used to say she saw the characters as fully fleshed-out people with complicated pasts, set on a collision course. She saw their flaws as something to overcome.”

The flow from past to present was effortless. The emotion gripping from start to finish –  our hearts feeling as though they’d just been in the middle of a battle. Insane chemistry, sublime writing, a beautiful legacy and heartfelt memories, searing love, painful loss and twists that sent us reeling. All these elements added up to one beautifully moving and unforgettable read. We did have a slight problem with authenticity of Scarlett and her sister Constance’s ‘voices’ which often sounded more American than British, thus taking us out of the moment here and there. However, this was a small hiccup in what was an extraordinarily moving story.  Grab this one reader, and grab the tissues while you’re at it – trust us, you’ll need them!

Til Ke Ladoo | Til Gur Ladoo Recipe | Winter Special Ladoo for Lohri & MakarSankranti | Chef Kunal

Til ladoos are healthy, delicious and simple prepared with sesame seeds, jaggery. It is good warming sweet snack for the winters. Make them, store them and have them whenever you want. It is a popular North Indian recipe that is specially prepared to celebrate the festival of Lohri or Makar Sankranti. Made with minimum ingredients, it does not require too much effort or time. This sweet delight is extremely easy to make & is known for its ability to keep one warm even on freezing winter nights.

In this recipe, I’ve cooked the jaggery syrup to a soft ball stage. So, this gives the ladoos a soft and chewy texture. You can also cook the jaggery syrup to hard ball stage and you will get firm and dense ladoos.

Clarice TV Show on CBS: Season One Viewer Votes – canceled + renewed TV shows

Clarice TV show on CBS: canceled or renewed for season 2?

(Photo: Brooke Palmer/CBS)

Can Agent Starling escape her past in the first season of the Clarice TV show on CBS? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Clarice is cancelled or renewed for season two. Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we invite you to rate all of the first season episodes of Clarice here.

A CBS psychological crime and horror series, the Clarice TV show stars Rebecca Breeds, Michael Cudlitz, Lucca de Oliveira, Kal Penn, Nick Sandow, Devyn Tyler, and Marnee Carpenter. The series is a deep dive into the untold personal story of FBI Agent Clarice Starling (Breeds) as she returns to the field in 1993, one year after the hunt for serial killer Buffalo Bill (Simon Northwood). Brilliant and vulnerable, Clarice’s bravery gives her an inner light that draws monsters and madmen to her. However, her complex psychological makeup — which comes from a challenging childhood — empowers her to begin to find her voice while working in a man’s world. It also helps her begin to escape the family secrets that have haunted her throughout her life.

What do you think? Which season one episodes of the Clarice TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Do you think that Clarice should be cancelled or renewed for a second season on CBS? Don’t forget to vote, and share your thoughts, below.
