The averages are based on the final national numbers (live plus same day viewing). The demos are typically reported with one decimal place but I’ve included two for more accurate ranking.

Keep in mind that the demo numbers are typically what’s most important to advertisers. Therefore, that’s how the networks measure success. Advertisers typically pay more for ad time on a show that has a higher demo rating. Because older viewers don’t count? No, it’s because younger viewers watch less traditional TV and are harder to reach. It’s also important to remember that ratings are designed to estimate how many people watch a show’s commercials — not the show itself. That’s what advertisers pay for.

What do you think? Are you surprised by any of the ratings? Which shows should be doing better?

Seth MacFarlane May Have Convinced Liam Neeson To Reboot A Comedy Classic

0

Ok, hear me out: this could be a really fun direction for Liam Neeson to go in next. The actor has been playing different versions of this hardened hero archetype for eons, so I would not mind seeing him go in a comedic direction with it after he’s all tired out from all the serious stunts. If you’re unfamiliar with The Naked Gun film series, it was from the late ‘80s and early ‘90s, and based on the Police Squad! show, following Detective Frank Dreblin, a bumbling and hollow-minded official who always seems to figure it out despite cringy hijinks.

Trump Pardons Lil Wayne and Kodak Black

0

Lil Wayne received a full presidential pardon and Kodak Black received a commutation from Donald Trump in the president’s final hours in office, CNN and Reuters report. The two rappers’ reprieve comes amid a flurry of pardons as some of the outgoing president’s final acts. Other names on the presidential pardon and commutation list include Steve Bannon, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, and Death Row Records co-founder Michael “Harry-O” Harris.

In November, the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Florida revealed that Wayne faced a federal weapons charge relating to a December 2019 incident at Miami-Opa Locka Executive Airport. According to the Miami Herald, Miami-Dade Police tipped off federal authorities that a private plane transporting Lil Wayne from California to Florida was also carrying marijuana and weapons. The rapper was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a convicted felon. He pleaded guilty in December and was facing up to 10 years in prison.

The statement about Wayne’s pardon released by the White House notes the rapper’s commitment to charity and quotes support from Sovereign Brands’ Brett Berish (who calls him “trustworthy, kind-hearted, and generous”) and Deion Sanders (who praised him as “a provider for his family, a friend to many, a man of faith, a natural giver to the less fortunate, a waymaker, [and] a game changer”).

Kodak Black’s current sentence stems from a May 2019 arrest for indicating on paperwork that he was not under indictment while trying to purchase firearms. At the time, he was out on bond for sexual assault charges in South Carolina. In March 2020, Kodak Black pled guilty to second degree criminal possession of a weapon following an April 2019 arrest at the border between the United States and Canada. The rapper was in prison as Trump pardoned him on his final day in office.

The White House’s official statement about Kodak Black’s commutation noted the support of Gucci Mane, Lil Yachty, Lil Pump, Baltimore Ravens player Lamar Jackson, and more. “Before his conviction and after reaching success as a recording artist, Kodak Black became deeply involved in numerous philanthropic efforts,” the statement reads. “In fact, he has committed to supporting a variety of charitable efforts, such as providing educational resources to students and families of fallen law enforcement officers and the underprivileged.”

Trump also commuted the sentence of Michael “Harry-O” Harris, co-founder of Death Row Records. Harris had served 30 years of a 25-to-life sentence for conspiracy to commit first-degree murder. “He is a former entrepreneur and has mentored and taught fellow prisoners how to start and run businesses,” the White House’s statement reads. “He has completed courses towards business and journalism degrees.” Snoop Dogg was reportedly lobbying for Harris’ commutation.

Days before the 2020 presidential election, Lil Wayne tweeted a photo with Trump and seemed to offer his endorsement. Just had a great meeting with [Donald Trump],” Wayne tweeted. “Besides what he’s done so far with criminal reform, the platinum plan is going to give the community real ownership. He listened to what we had to say today and assured he will and can get it done.” Joe Biden won the election.

What You Need to Know About the Hunts Point Market Strike

0

It’s the largest wholesale produce market in the world.

Produce workers at the Hunts Point Produce Market in the South Bronx are on strike for the first time in almost 35 years after wage negotiations broke down last week. It’s a labor issue, and also a vegetal one: WNYC warns of a possible “ripple effect throughout the city, ” given that up to 60 percent of the city’s fruits and vegetables pass through Hunts Point, the largest wholesale produce market in the world. Here’s what you need to know.

Who is striking?
Hunts Point Distribution Center is actually a collection of three primary sections. Eater, which called this the “single most important food hub in New York,” broke it down last year: There’s the Hunts Point Cooperative Market, with 52 member companies, focusing mainly on meat. There’s the New Fulton Fish Market, which moved uptown in 2005. And then there’s the Terminal Produce Market, which handles fresh fruits and vegetables coming in from all over the world. The produce market’s workers are on strike.

Why?
The union representing the market’s warehouse workers, delivery drivers, and others — Teamsters Local 202 — had been arguing for a $1-per-hour raise and “additional health-care support,” according to NY1. Management countered with an additional 32 cents per hour. Negotiations broke down and about 1,400 workers went on strike over the weekend.

The union points out that these are essential workers who have been helping to keep the tristate area fed throughout the pandemic. “It’s not good enough just to clap for them and say they’re essential. When they asked for a decent raise, a fair number, they should be told, ‘Yes, you can have that, and thank you,’” Teamsters Local 202 president Danny Kane told CBS New York. The average base salary for union workers at the market is $40,000 per year.

So it’s related to the pandemic?
Not directly, although the pandemic — at least, in theory — highlights how “essential” this work really is. “We are finally realizing these folks didn’t become essential during the pandemic,” Kane said. “They have been essential forever.”

“I would love the support from the owners,” Francisco Flores, a worker at the market, told NY1. “I feel like we both need each other, we both need to be there for each other, and right now they’re not showing us that they even care for us.”

While Hunts Point has garnered praise for its general handling of the pandemic — and avoiding layoffs or furloughs — workers at the produce market have hardly been spared from the virus. A union rep estimated that 300 to 400 people have been infected so far, and six union workers have died of COVID-19.

And what does management say?
Not a lot. An official statement, released Friday, reads: “We are very proud to have kept our union workers — the vast majority of whom live right here in the Bronx — working and on payroll with full health benefits as the Bronx has seen an unemployment rate of 40%.” It continued, “Even with the continued uncertainty surrounding the pandemic, we are offering our dedicated workers wage and benefit increases over the next three years that are a multiple of the current annual cost of living. We are continuing to negotiate in good faith with the Union to keep our workers on the job and produce available in our region.”

How’s it going?
It’s not what you’d call a good situation. At least five picketers were arrested this morning for allegedly being “unlawfully in the roadway” and “obstructing vehicular traffic,” the Daily News reports, citing video from the scene. It’s not clear as of now how many of the strikers were taken into custody or if any were criminally charged.

The union was not deterred, Kane told the Daily News: “We will stay on strike until these employers pay their workers the essential wage they deserve.”

Should I worry about vegetables in my grocery store?
Right now, the market is still open for business, but the union warns that without the usual workers to sort and deliver products, the “tristate area’s food supply will be greatly impacted.” Trucks can still get to the market, but the workers who’d usually unload those trucks aren’t there.

Reps for the market, for their part, say the “top priority is maintaining the flow of fresh produce to our region.” Still, WNYC suggests, now “might be a good time to stock up on bananas and root vegetables.”
