Watch the National’s Matt Berninger Cover the Velvet Underground on Fallon

The National’s Matt Berninger appeared on the Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon yesterday to perform “I’m Waiting for the Man”—a cover of the Velvet Underground classic (not, as Fallon relayed, a track from his recent solo album Serpentine Prison). Check it out below.

Berninger has history with the Velvet Underground: In 2016, he and Andrew Bird covered Lou Reed’s “Perfect Day.” Berninger also recorded (and, on Booker T.’s advice, scrapped) a cover of “European Son,” from The Velvet Underground and Nico, for Serpentine Prison. 

Earlier this month, Future Islands remixed Berninger’s “One More Second.” The National released their last LP, I Am Easy to Find, last year, and are reissuing parts of their early catalog on vinyl and CD early next year.

Grammy nominated singer Teena Marie — once known as Rick James’ protégée — died in her sleep last night at her home in Pasadena at the age of 54 … TMZ has confirmed with Teena’s rep Lynn Jeter.

Relatives found Teena’s body Sunday morning at her home. Relatives tell TMZ Teena seemed fine yesterday, when she spent Christmas with her brother. Teena spoke at length yesterday with Lynn, who tells TMZ Teena seemed “fine.”

So far it’s unclear what caused the singer’s death — but the Pasadena Police Department tells TMZ they do not suspect foul play. They say it looks like Teena died of natural causes. The L.A. County Coroner’s Office will perform an autopsy.

We’re told Teena had a seizure a month ago, but it’s unclear what triggered it.

Marie was nominated for a Grammy four times … her first top ten hit was “I’m Just a Sucker for Your Love.”

The Cactus – TBA (Announced)

In addition to the aforementioned Your Place Or Mine, it was also announced at the same time, per Deadline, that Reese Witherspoon is set to star in and produce an adaptation of Sarah Haywood’s The Cactus. The upcoming streaming exclusive follows a reserved woman who’s unexpectedly pregnant at 45, causing her to restructure the life that she has created for herself and leading her into an unconventional journey towards life, love, family, and to learning to accept the unexpected.

The description certainly has an Eat, Pray, Love kind of vibe, though the source material is said to be more comedic. Nevertheless, it’s the second of two romantic comedies that Witherspoon has in store with Netflix, both as a producer and star, which will keep her on the service’s payroll for at least a few years.

Details are also slim on this project otherwise, but we should expect to hear more details about this film and Your Place Or Mine in the months ahead.

Puran poli is an authentic traditional Maharashtrian recipe. It is sweet Indian flat bread specially made for the Holi festival. The stuffing of poli is made with chana dal and jaggery. Though a bit tedious and time consuming recipe, it is worth trying as the end result is just amazing. Try making this amazing recipe with Kitchen Tikka Hindi.

To make the poli,
First knead the dough. While doing this, add a pinch of salt to it. Then roll out 2 rotis/parathas. Add the filling in between the 2 rotis. The filling is made with chana dal, jaggery and a pinch of jaiphal powder. Once placed well, roast the poli on a pan and while doing this, add ghee to it.
Enjoy it with home made butter or ghee.”
