This is a great CD, too bad Nicole Russo is no longer with the band. Very upbeat, funky and fun to listen to!
The Brand New Heavies return from a brief hiatus with a funky album featuring the sassy Nicole Russo which is an a welcome addition to their catalog.
What I like about this cd for those of us who long for the days that they work with NDea again or even cherish “Shelter” which they recorded with Siedah, BNH didnt try to recreate those recordings.
What they did do is take their classic funk leanings and added more hip hop and club influences which adds freshness to the new material. Nicole Russo is another welcome addition.
Sounding like a cross between Anastacia and early Teena Marie, Nicole brings accross the sass that is needed to carry these songs.
My favorite tracks are “Feel Right”, “Boogie”, “What do you take me for” & “Waste my time”, the other tracks are cool too, mos def no filler on this cd.
I say check it out, but listen to it as if you have never heard a BNH cd before, trust me you wont be disappointed!
I guess some are disappointed than N’dea Davenport is not on this album. I understand, but this album is good! this is not a 1 star album if you really listen to it, I was actually surprised at how good this was without N’dea.
I bit expensive but this album was never released in the US. In the end it is totally worth it though, getting some new Heavies material that is very much on the dance/funk side of thing.
I have been playing catch up with the Heavies after discovering their Sweet Freaks album on Freegal via my library card. I had a few of their albums before and always kind of favored their stuff with NDea so I lost sight of them, but man was I missing out!
Their album is as titled…great, funky stuff and thus vicalist us awesome too. Looking forward to the spin off MF Robots too!
