Nearly two years after the release of 2021ās Free Guy, the filmās star, Ryan Reynolds, has talked about the current possibility of a sequel. While speaking with Variety, Reynolds entertained the idea of a Free Guy sequel, but suggested that not every movie needs to have a follow-up.
āThere is the potential to do a sequel to Free Guy, which would be fun. I would love it. But also like, does everything fāking have to be a sequel? I donāt know,ā Reynolds stated. āSometimes itās OK to just do a movie and have it kick ass and then everyone go home.ā
The actor also explained that a movie should validate itself, rather than require a sequel to do so.
āSo you know, thereās a bit of a push and pull there, resisting the urge to just immediately say, āOhh, doing a sequel will validate the first one.ā No, the first movie validates the first one and then you can leave it at that. So I donāt know, weāre still talking about it,ā Reynolds said.
Free GuyĀ was directed byĀ Shawn Levy (Stranger Things,Ā Night at the MuseumĀ franchise) from a script written by Matt Lieberman and Zak Penn, based on a story by Lieberman.Ā It was produced by Ryan Reynolds, Shawn Levy, Sarah Schechter, Greg Berlanti, and Adam Kolbrenner, with Mary McLaglen, Josh McLaglen, George Dewey, Dan Levine, and Michael Riley McGrath serving as executive producers.
