Netflix and the BBC are bringing back a hilarious TV series for a surprise third season, with an entirely new premise.
What Netflix TV show is back for a surprise Season 3?
According to Variety, Netflix and the BBC are bringing back the character of Philomena Cunk for a third season. The character, who was created by comedian Diane Morgan and Charlie Brooker, and played by Morgan, is best known for her deadpan style as the host of several satirical documentaries.
The third season of the show, titled Cunk on Cinema, will see the three-part series air on the BBC in the U.K. and Ireland, and globally on Netflix. The new show is described as the âmost glamorous series to date,â and will see the fictional character examining the world of movies and peopleâs love for them.
âCunk will attempt to demystify it all while sitting in lumpy seats with stale popcorn, asking herself where did cinema come from? And why? What does it want? And why canât it tell us?â reads the synopsis of the series.
âCinema has given the world some of the most profound, memorable and moving visual moments in its unswerving depiction of the human condition: the shower scene in âPsycho,â Death playing chess in that Swedish thing, and Tom Selleckâs glistening moustache in âThree Men And A Little Lady,â to name but all three of the only examples I can think of at the moment,â said Cunk. âThere will, unfortunately, be some bits in black and white, but weâll keep that to the barest minimum.âÂ
In a statement from Brooker, he joked that ânow that Sora has killed off Hollywood and itself,â itâs time to take a look at the world of cinema. Prior to this, Morgan played the character in 2018âs Cunk on Britain, 2022âs Cunk on Earth, and in a one-off special titled Cunk on Life that aired in 2024.
