Anheuser-Busch Pulls the Plug on Travis Scott’s Cacti Hard Seltzer Line

Anheuser-Busch has pulled the plug on Travis Scott’s Cacti hard seltzer line. The brewing company announced the discontinuation in a statement on Friday.

“After careful evaluation, we have decided to stop all production and brand development of CACTI Agave Spiked Seltzer. We believe brand fans will understand and respect this decision,” a rep said in a statement.

As Rolling Stone points out, the brand’s social media pages have already been removed, and the original Cacti announcement has been deleted from Anheuser-Busch’s website.

Though the beverage maker didn’t cite the Astroworld tragedy as a reason for discontinuing Cacti hard seltzer, sales didn’t seem to be an issue. When the drink first hit the market in March 2021, it quickly sold out online and stores had a hard time keeping it stocked. “Several of them are saying that they have never seen anything like this before: sold out within one day,” CEO Michel Doukeris told CNBC at the time.

The partnership ran until Nov. 30, at which point both sides made a “mutual” decision to cease production of Cacti hard seltzer.

“Travis was clear in his interview that he is not focused on business right now and his priority is helping his community and fans heal,” the rep said, referring to Scott’s first interview since the tragedy. “Cacti asked AB InBev to inform their wholesalers there will not be product at this time.”

This is the first major branding deal Scott has lost in the wake of the Astroworld tragedy, which claimed the lives of nine people. The rapper has been hit with nearly 300 lawsuits in the month that’s passed, and he’s vowed to pay for the victims’ funeral expenses.

“I have a responsibility to figure out what happened here. I have a responsibility to figure out the solution,” Scott said in an interview earlier this week. “Hopefully this takes a first step for us as artists, having more insight about what’s going on.”

He will be in charge of designing innovative dessert and amenity menus for new guest experiences across property. A collaboration with Executive Chef Yvan Mucharraz, the consultancy will include the development of pairings and tastings, featuring stories behind the heritage of Mexican chocolate and its influence on cuisine all over the world.

The chocolate maestro’s story begins in New York City, where he spent several years in Daniel Boulud’s kitchen, before working at three Michelin starred Le Pré Catelan and La Table du Baltimore in Paris. Chef Robledo studied professional pastry arts at the French Culinary Institute, obtaining the Outstanding Alumni Award for his high performance and merit as a student. It was in France that he first started working with chocolate and was trained by the L’école du Grand Chocolat team, led by Frédéric Bau. Three years later, he moved back to New York to take the reins of the Four Season Hotel kitchen, where he created a notable line of gourmet chocolates for guests and VIPs.

In October 2006, he returned to Mexico to open the doors of Tout Chocolat, honoring Latin America’s history of cocoa while pushing modern boundaries with avant-garde creations and infusions. The shop achieved quick success and now operates four branches through Mexico City. Chef Robledo has also served as the head of Barry Callebaut’s Chocolate Academy Center in Mexico City and spent many years traveling worldwide, sharing knowledge of chocolate and pastry. The Evil Dead: The Game is another online multiplayer horror game that’s based on a classic horror film franchise. And while Saber Interactive didn’t show the game at The Game Awards, actor Bruce Campbell did speak to The Game Awards’ Geoff Keighley about the title after the fact, touching on why Campbell has been so involved and how each Ash differs from the rest.

Campbell has narrated both the game’s reveal trailer and its first gameplay trailer, which prompted Keighley to ask Campbell why he was so involved with the game. And the Evil Dead actor gave a pretty candid answer.

“Because it’s about the only form I can come back in,” he said. “I hung up my jersey as Ash, hung up the chainsaw because I can’t physically do that crap anymore. I am like an old stunt guy. My voice is fine though. My voice is what gives me away these days. I am at a restaurant. ‘Blah, blah blah,’ and some guy will go, ‘Hey, I heard your voice.’ They don’t recognize me, but they recognize my voice. So I figured let’s stay involved in this game. I love the Evil Dead movies. It got me into the film business so game on.”

Campbell himself may be aging in real life, but Evil Dead: The Game represents him in his many forms over the years. There are four Ash characters in the game and each is a different class — leader, warrior, hunter, and support — which even includes Possessed Ash from Evil Dead 2. And Campbell voices all of them here. Keighley asked which one he would main in the game and Campbell picked the one closest to his actual self.

“I would be the old guy. He’s got all the experience. The young guy doesn’t know his ass from a hole in the ground. But that’s the cool thing about the game. You can play other characters.”

Campbell said that the games have gotten better now when compared to the handful of older Evil Dead games, the last of which (aside from the mobile Army of Darkness game from 2011) released in 2005. It’s a long time to wait for a new game, which has been a longer wait than usual, given its recent delay in February 2022. Campbell thinks it will be not only worth the wait, but also “worth it to play it, period,” even to the fans that are, as he says, “never satisfied.”

“We went back to some of the original Evil Dead cast members to get their voice in on it,” said Campbell. “Because the hardcore, true blue folks, if they hear that it’s the real Scotty and the real Cheryl, it just gives the game that much more street cred instead of some guy who kind of sounds like somebody else, it always sounds bogus. That’s how much we love our fans. You go that extra mile for them so that they’ll shut up.”

Rick Ross and Jazmine Sullivan appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Friday (December 10), performing “Outlawz.” Dua Lipa had been slated to appear on the show, but was bumped for Joe Biden’s first appearance on the show as President of the United States.

“Outlawz” is on Ross’ new album Richer Than I Ever Been, and while the original track features a guest appearance from 21 Savage, he did not join Ross and Sullivan on Fallon. Sullivan recently announced a North American tour in support of January’s Heaux Tales, which begins in February in Vancouver.
