James Gunn recently opened up about where DC Studios and the larger DC Universe finds its inspiration, and revealed it actually isn’t the MCU.
Speaking to Omelete in a recent interview (via Comic Book Movie), Gunn opened up about what the DCU is using as a reference. Perhaps surprisingly, Gunn revealed that the hit HBO series Game of Thrones and the A Song of Ice and Fire novels are where DC Studios has been drawing the most from.
“Game of Thrones, not just the show but the books, is what we’re using as a reference for the DCU,” said Gunn. “The DCU is not the MCU. The MCU is kind of our world. It has New York, it has this city or that city, with superheroes in the middle. The DCU is a different universe. Slightly different, slightly transformed.”
Gunn also opened up about other projects he draws inspiration from. These include other high-profile franchises like Star Wars, which he says do a good job of building up various stories that all take place in the same continued universe.
“At the same time, I also draw a lot of inspiration from Star Wars, Game of Thrones and other things that tell different stories within the same continuity. It’s not about telling just one story.”
Gunn will get the chance to debut the first film in the DCU, Superman, next month, when the film releases on July 11, 2025.
Remember six years ago when Frank Ocean said that vinyl editions of Channel Orange would be coming “ASAP”? Well, he’s finally made good on that promise, as the Channel Orange vinyl is now available on Ocean’s Blonded.co website. It’s a 2xLP package, and it costs $69. The listing also says: “Please allow 4-6 weeks for fulfillment.”
Channel Orange was originally released digitally and on CD, and it was thought that a vinyl edition would soon follow. Ocean was even excited to grab a physical copy of his debut, telling Zane Lowe, “It’ll be a glorious day for me personally.” Instead, the Channel Orange vinyl never materialized (until now), and fans were left to sort through various unofficial and bootleg releases.
Ocean has sold limited quantities of his subsequent albums, Endless and Blonde. The hard-to-come-by records have been slightly easier to get in recent years, however, due to reissues.

Pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter has her fans worried after she disclosed that she might consider banning her fans from using mobile phones while attending her concerts sometime in the future. In a recent discussion, the singer recalled a concert she went to where they took away her cell phone. She noted how it was one of the best experiences she has had in recent times, before suggesting that she could employ such conditions in her shows as well.
So, here’s everything Carpenter shared about her concert experience and why she may ban phones at her next show.
During a recent interview, the “Espresso” singer remarked that she is thinking of banning mobile phones from her concerts when she gets older, as she does not want attendees to “zoom in on me when I’m 80 years old up there.”
Sabrina Carpenter also highlighted how such an environment could elevate fans’ experience by detailing a similar incident that happened with her. “I went to see Silk Sonic in Vegas, and they locked my phone. I’ve never had a better experience at a concert,” she told Rolling Stone.
Carpenter added, “I genuinely felt like I was back in the Seventies — wasn’t alive. Genuinely felt like I was there. Everyone’s singing, dancing, looking at each other, and laughing. It really, really just felt so beautiful.”
The 26-year-old singer acknowledged that using phones during concerts helps in collecting invaluable memories. However, she then reiterated that the prospect of fans recording her face when she’s old is enough of a motivation for her to ban mobile phones from her shows altogether.
“I’ve grown up in the age of people having iPhones at shows. It unfortunately feels super normal to me. But depending on how long I want to be touring, and what age I am, girl, take those phones away. You cannot zoom in on my face. Right now, my skin is soft and supple. It’s fine,” Carpenter explained.
While such a proposition might be concerning for fans of the two-time Grammy winner, her statements suggest that it won’t happen for a long time. In the meantime, Sabrina Carpenter’s admirers can prepare for her next studio album, Man’s Best Friend, which comes out in August later this year.
Last night, Model/Actriz made their TV debut playing the Pirouette song “Cinderella” on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert. As to be expected, the New York-based industrial post-punk band threw itself into the performance with plenty of panache, with frontperson Cole Haden fist-pumping, dancing, and twirling down a runway of blue strobe lights. Watch a replay below.
Model/Actriz released Pirouette, their second studio album and the follow-up to 2023’s Dogsbody, last month. It includes the singles “Doves,” “Diva,” and the aforementioned “Cinderella.” The LP was co-produced and mixed by Seth Manchester and mastered by Matt Colton, both of whom worked on Model/Actriz’s debut.
Although Model/Actriz churned their way through a spring tour already, they’ve recently announced an extensive run this fall, too. In addition to headlining slots at major cities in North America and Europe, they’re also playing music festivals like Kalorama, C2C, and Down the Rabbit Hole. Find their updated list of tour dates below.
