Ghost Cat Anzu Blu-ray & Digital Release Dates Set for Anime Movie

0

GKIDS has finally announced the Ghost Cat Anzu Blu-ray and digital release date for its latest fantasy coming-of-age anime movie, based on Takashi Imashiro’s manga of the same name. This comes after the movie had its U.S. theatrical debut in November 2024.

“Precocious tween Karin finds herself abandoned by her father in rural Japan. Living in a temple with her grandfather, she meets Anzu, a giant ‘ghost cat’ and notorious layabout tasked with looking after her,” reads the synopsis. “Distrustful of her new guardian, Karin sabotages Anzu’s odd jobs for the townsfolk and befriends the eccentric local forest spirits. In an effort to win Karin over, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the devil, and all Hell breaks loose.”

When is the Ghost Cat Anzu Blu-ray & digital release dates?

Ghost Cat Anzu will be available to rent or own on digital platforms, starting on January 26. It will then be followed by its Blu-ray release on March 4, which will include bonus features. Since making its debut, the film has earned an 86% Popcornmeter on Rotten Tomatoes, based on 50+ ratings.

The anime movie is directed by artist Yôko Kuno and Nobuhiro Yamashita, with Keiichi Suzuki (EarthBound) providing the music. The cast includes Mirai Moriyama as Anzu, Noa Gotô as Karin, Munetaka Aoki as Tetsuya, Miwako Ichikawa as Yuzuki, Keiichi Suzuki as Oshô and more. This marks Yôko Kuno’s feature directorial debut, which was first filmed in live action, with the animation rotoscoped based on this footage. It is a produced by Shin-Ei Animation and Miyu Productions, while Shout! Studios handles its distribution.

Bad Bunny: “Lo que le pasó a Hawaii” Track Review

0

By basically any metric, Bad Bunny is one of the biggest pop stars on the planet. Yet as he’s released the most-streamed album on Spotify (2022’s Un Verano Sin Ti) and sold out concerts around the globe, the Puerto Rican rapper, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has always put his island first. This homegrown, “sobre Puerto Rico para Puerto Rico” ethos has never been more apparent than on his newly released seventh record, DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS, a dense and sprawling tome about Puerto Rico’s musical and cultural history.

On a record that’s wholly about the island’s neocolonization at the hands of turistas, the ideological centerpiece is “Lo que le pasó a Hawaii,” a sparse, moody warning about the rapid gringo-ification of Puerto Rico. Over a stripped-back instrumental full of sounds you would hear walking down cobblestone streets in San Juan—güiros and guitars—Bad Bunny speaks slowly and with a measured intimacy. “Que no quiero que hagan contigo lo que le pasó a Hawái” (“I don’t want them to do to you what they did to Hawaii”), he cautions, drawing connections between the current plight of the Puerto Rican people and the way Hawaiian statehood has threatened local culture. At times his vocals cut off mid-phrase for dramatic effect, simulating the electrical blackouts the island frequently experiences.

On Un Verano Sin Ti’s “El Apagón,” Bad Bunny sang the praises of PR, extolling the island’s beaches, people, and culture. “Lo que le pasó a Hawaii” is the brooding yin to the older song’s boisterous yang: Here, he reckons with what happens after the vacation ends, the sun goes back behind the clouds, and the visitors return to their home countries with a coqui figurine and a sunburn. It’s a song filled with a simmering, generational anxiousness rarely seen from the reggaetonero, moving beyond hometown pride and into radical music.

The Making of a Bad Boy Trailer Previews Peacock Documentary

0

Peacock has released the first official Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy trailer. It previews the upcoming documentary about Sean Combs, his rise to fame, and the alleged actions which brought his public downfall.

What happens in the Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy trailer?

The Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy trailer promises to offer up a “raw, exclusive” look at Diddy before he was known as the mega star he would become. The documentary features never-before-seen footage from people who knew him growing up, and sheds light on his childhood and recent criminal allegations.

Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy is set to release on Peacock on January 14, 2025.

Check out the Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy trailer below (watch other trailers and clips):

The upcoming documentary is executive produced by Ari Mark, Phil Lott, Sumit David, Stephanie Frederic, Laura Jones, Justine Kershaw, and Sara Lavery.

“Insiders break their silence in Peacock’s all-new documentary special Diddy: The Making of a Bad Boy,” reads the documentary’s description. “The 90-minute documentary special tells the story of Sean Combs’ early years and his decades-long transformation to Puffy and then to Diddy, with crucial insight into the forces that shaped the man and may have made him a monster. The special features candid, revealing interviews with some of those who’ve known Diddy best – including his childhood friend, his former bodyguard, and a “Making the Band” winner. Plus singer/songwriter/producer Al B. Sure!, who was Diddy’s label mate at Uptown Records and in a relationship with Kim Porter before she began dating Diddy, speaks out for the first time.”

In 2024, Combs was arrested and charged with sex trafficking and racketeering, a charge for which he pleaded not guilty. As of December 2024, he is detained and awaiting trial for May 2025, after having been denied bail three times.

Neil Young Says He Pulled Out of Glastonbury 2025 Due to “Corporate” BBC Partnership

0

Neil Young says he has pulled out of a scheduled performance at Glastonbury 2025 because of the BBC’s partnership with the festival. In a blog post on Tuesday (December 31), Young lamented that the broadcasting company, which is government-owned, had taken “corporate control” of the famously anti-commercial, nonprofit UK festival, which neither hosts brand partnerships (besides with some media outlets) nor allows ads on-site, other than those of selected charities. But the BBC, said Young, “wanted us to do a lot of things in a way we were not interested in. It seems Glastonbury is now under corporate control and is not the way I remember it being.”

Young, who headlined the festival in 2009, more than a decade after the BBC partnership began, added that it had been “one of [his] all-time favorite outdoor gigs,” but was now “a corporate turn-off.” His stand against one of the world’s most beloved festivals—which last year donated some $6.4 million to charities, The Guardian notes—is the latest in a series of objections to the music industry at large, notably taking issue with Spotify and Ticketmaster.

The only performer to have been formally confirmed for Glastonbury 2025 is Rod Stewart, who will play the Sunday-afternoon legends slot.

I Saw the TV Glow Director Teases Next Movie as Hybrid of 2 Projects

0

Jane Schoenbrun‘s I Saw the TV Glow has been hailed as one of the best films of 2024, and at a recent Q&A session, the director teased what to expect from her next movie with two very unique comparisons.

What did Jane Schoenbrun say about her next movie?

Speaking during a Q&A session at a showing of I Saw the TV Glow (via film critic Siddhant Adlakha on X), Schoenbrun said that her next movie, titled Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma, is in the works. She also described the film as “Portrait of a Lady on Fire set in a Friday the 13th sequel.”

Schoenbrun didn’t dive into the film’s plot too much aside from that, but in a previous interview with Filmmaker Magazine, she did say that the movie would be “all about sex,” specifically learning about sex after transitioning.

“My next movie is all about sex––essentially a movie about learning to enjoy sex after transition,” said Schoenbrun. “Pre-transition, it wasn’t that I was asexual––I had plenty of desire––but having good sex in the wrong body was impossible. What was available was full dissociation, which is obviously a theme in the first two films.”

In a profile in The New Yorker, the movie is said to both “honor and critique” the serial killer genre, hinting that the movie will be a slasher of some sort. Schoenbrun’s I Saw the TV Glow released earlier this year via A24, and was a success both critically and at the box office, where it earned $5.3 million.
