Georgian Restaurant Cafedelia Opens in Greenwich Village

Whenever the Underground Gourmet goes on the hunt for something new and exciting to eat in Greenwich Village, we head straight to 8th Street. The blocks that run from Broadway to Sixth Avenue attract their share of chains, including a Dunkin’ Donuts, a Chipotle, and a Domino’s Pizza. But interspersed among them lies a small fleet of indie gems. The only problem with this fleet is that it is fleeting. Good restaurants come and good restaurants go. No sooner do you discover the purveyor of a first-rate Persian ash-e reshteh than it is packed up and replaced by a Yunnanese tofu-pudding specialist; blink and the Basque cookie bakery has morphed into a French wine bar.

The latest player in this game of culinary musical chairs is the 12-seat counter-service Cafedelia, an unassuming little Georgian restaurant that recently moved into the kitchen of the late great chickpea master Sunshine Hummus. All the cheesy breads and hearty dishes of the Republic of Georgia that have become increasingly popular in New York are here. Business partners Ramaz Kiknadze and Zurab Kikiani say the menu is a fast-casual version of their Georgian Deli and Bakery, a takeout shop they run in Bath Beach. All too aware of the mayflylike life span of the average 8th Street restaurant, the U.G. adopted a get-it-while-the-getting-is-good tactic and ordered practically the entire Cafedelia menu the other day. Most everything was good, and what wasn’t good was great. The chicken-meatball soup was rich and herby. The spicy beef stew called chashushuli had everything you could ask for in a spicy beef stew, plus salad, pickles, and an un-Georgian helping of mashed potatoes on the side. The adjaruli khachapuri (the baked-to-order bread bowl shaped like a canoe, its belly brimming with melted cheese and an egg yolk on top) did not disappoint — how could it? And our order of khinkali (three juicy meat-stuffed dumplings pleated like old-fashioned hangover ice packs) made us wonder why xiao long bao is the last word on the subject of soup dumplings in this town. For dessert, the honey-caramel cake gave the lie to the notion that Georgians do not take their sweets seriously. All told, our Georgian feast left us tremendously full and wholly impressed. We’re adding Cafedelia to our list of 8th Street gems. We hope it sticks around for a while.

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition – Official Trailer [HD]

The Iron Giant: Signature Edition – Official Trailer [HD]

Brad Bird’s directorial debut, THE IRON GIANT, is back in theaters with two all-new scenes for a special two-day event. Get tickets from Fathom Events here:

When “The Iron Giant” arrived in theaters in 1999, it was hailed as an “instant classic” by Joe Morgenstern of The Wall Street Journal, and the world soon learned another giant had arrived as well: filmmaker Brad Bird, who made his stunning directorial debut with this film and has gone on to win two Oscars, as well as worldwide acclaim for his work on both animated and live-action features. Winner of nine Annie Awards, “The Iron Giant” is being re-mastered and enhanced with two all-new scenes.

The film takes place in October of 1957, when America had plenty to be worried about. Rock ’n’ roll. Television. The bomb. And on the fourth day of that month, the Soviets successfully launched the first manmade satellite, Sputnik, into orbit. The space race had officially begun. The Cold War just got colder. People were unsure about their neighbors, even questioning their friends.

In the small town of Rockwell, Maine, Annie Hughes (voice of Jennifer Aniston) is just worried about putting supper on the table for herself and her nine-year-old son, Hogarth (voice of Eli Marienthal). A single mother holding down a job at the local diner, Annie has her hands full with Hogarth—headstrong and imaginative, always on the lookout for the latest attempted takeover by mutant aliens or subversive invaders.

So when a local fisherman comes into the diner with a tall tale about a huge metal man falling into the sea, the only one to pay him much attention is Hogarth, who sets out exploring to find the enormous robot. What he does find is a 50-foot giant with an insatiable appetite for metal and a childlike curiosity about its new world.

Rumors of everything from an alien invasion to a Russian secret weapon bent on destroying Rockwell soon spread through the small town, prompting the arrival of government agent Kent Mansley (voiced by Christopher McDonald). Keeping one step ahead of Mansley, Hogarth convinces his beatnik friend Dean (voiced by Harry Connick, Jr.) to hide the Iron Giant (voiced by Vin Diesel) in Dean’s junkyard.

But it isn’t long before the rumors turn into paranoia—the situation escalates and the possible destruction of Rockwell looms. Hogarth turns to his friend, the Iron Giant, who ultimately finds its humanity by unselfishly saving the town’s residents from their own fears and prejudices.

In times like these, you really find out what your friends are made of…sometimes, it’s even metal.

Warner Bros. presents “The Iron Giant,” a full-length animated motion picture directed by Brad Bird. Produced by Allison Abbate and Des McAnuff, the screen story is by Brad Bird and the screenplay is by Tim McCanlies, based on the book The Iron Man, by British Poet Laureate Ted Hughes. It was executive produced by Pete Townshend and the music is by Michael Kamen. The film also stars the voices of James Gammon (as Marv Loach / Floyd Turbeaux), Cloris Leachman (as Mrs. Tensedge), John Mahoney (as General Rogard) and M. Emmet Walsh (as Earl Stutz). “The Iron Giant” is distributed by Warner Bros.

“The Iron Giant: Signature Edition” will be re-released in theaters across North America for a special Fathom Events screening on Wednesday, September 30, with an encore event on Sunday, October 4.

Minnesota Timberwolves Dedicate Game Ball To George Floyd’s Family | Sports

0

A day after former Minneapolos police officer Derek Chauvin was convicted for the murder of George Floyd, the Minnesota Timberwolves are honoring Floyd’s life.

According to USA Today, Timberwolves guard Josh Okogie said, “We have the game ball and we dedicated that to George Floyd’s family. I’m glad we were able to do that.”

Timberwolves center Karl-Anthony Towns also added, “This was a moment that wasn’t meant for us. This was meant for our city and for George Floyd’s family.”

Towns continued, “I think everyone in America right now is grieving with him and sending our prayers, blessings and love. They need it for countless days. They’ve been reminded of the tragedy that has taken place in their family. They’ve never truly got a chance to grieve. I think for us, we were just trying to do our part that we were there with him. This game of basketball is only just a little part of who we are. This organization and us really wanted to show them that we’re going to be with them every step of the way.”

See the video below of coach Chris Finch saying how proud he is of the team and the game ball being dedicated to the Floyd family:

The Minnesota Timberwolves won over the Sacramento Kings with a score of 134-120.

After 14 days of testimony and 11 hours of deliberation, a jury of 12 reached a verdict in the trial of former Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin, who killed George Floyd on May 25, 2020. Chauvin was found guilty on all three charges: 2nd degree murder, 3rd degree murder and 2nd degree manslaughter.

He could face a maximum sentence of up to 75 years in prison. Chauvin’s sentencing will occur within the next eight weeks, CBS News reports.

The three other officers involved in Floyd’s death — Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng — will be tried later this summer. They face charges of aiding and abetting second-degree murder and manslaughter. All parties have pleaded not guilty.

Younger TV Show on TV Land: Season Seven Viewer Votes – canceled + renewed TV shows

Younger TV show on TV Land and Paramount+: canceled? renewed for season 8?

(Photo: Nicole Rivelli/2021 ViacomCBS, Inc. All Rights Reserved.)

Where will Liza and her friends end up by the end of the seventh season of the Younger TV show on Paramount+ and TV Land? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Younger is cancelled or renewed for season eight (in this case, we know season seven is the end). Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustration when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we invite you to rate all of the seventh season episodes of Younger here.

A TV Land and Paramount+ romantic comedy, Younger stars Sutton Foster, Debi Mazar, Nico Tortorella, Hilary Duff, Molly Bernard, Peter Hermann, with Miriam Shor, Charles Michael Davis, Laura Benanti, and Janeane Garofalo recurring. The story centers on single mother Liza Miller (Foster) who passes herself off as a twenty-something, to land a job in the publishing industry. As Liza’s personal and professional lives mesh, keeping her secret becomes more difficult. In season seven, Liza’s personal life is on shaky ground as she tries to stay true to herself. After a setback at work, Kelsey (Duff) doubts her career decisions and discovers a new creative outlet. Meanwhile, Maggie (Mazar) gets cancelled.

What do you think? Which season seven episodes of the Younger TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Do you think that Younger should have been renewed for an eighth season on TV Land and Paramount+? Don’t forget to vote, and share your thoughts, below.
