REINVENTING CATO (Unfinished Business #3) by BARBARA ELSBORG

0

“A policeman and an astrophysicist went into a bar and got into trouble.”

Reinventing Cato by Barbara Elsborg can be read as a standalone in a series, however, we rate every single book so highly we would recommend reading to get the full experience of the characters that pop up in every book. This Author once again managed to pair dramatic suspense with sarcasm and humour and tragedy with inspirational love. The way in which Barbara Elsborg blends fiction with realism is spot on and addictive. And on a side note, her intense need and craving for facts, be they relevant or obscure, well where is she when we need her for our online pub quiz? She’d be our ‘phone a friend’! We always know what to expect from this Author, and she never lets us down. The writing is flawless, the humour timeless and the storyline compelling. Her characters never fail to worm their way into our hearts, only to stay and find a forever home.

“Can I tell them you’re my psychiatrist?”
“Why not settle for boyfriend?”
“Did the word catch in your throat?” Cato asked.
“On the way from my heart?”
“Oh.” Cato smiled. “I think that might be the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.”

Reinventing Cato had mayhem and drama galore, it literally didn’t stop, and we were completely swept up in it, though we would’ve perhaps liked a bit more Cato and Vigge away from all the drama and heartbreak. Once again, it was a case of opposites attract and finding that one person who sees through the façade and emotionally spurs on personal realisations, dreams, and comfort. But most of all finding that soulmate love we all dream about who brings out the best in us that may be hidden or lying dormant. Oh, and we must mention once again the Devan and Jonty appearances which are just a breath of joyful fresh air, we know we’ve got a big wide perma-smile on our faces when they appear! Cato and Vigge have been added to our hearts for being so lovable, funny, eccentric, and just bloody wonderful. We highly recommend this series for lovers of mm romance with a penchant for murder, drama, and an abundance of twists and turns. Sprinkled with passion and laughter.

‘Vigge wrapped his arms around him. Cato clung to him so hard that Vigge’s heart felt as if it were trying to get out of his chest and climb into Cato’s to give it a hug.’

This Old House, Ask This Old House: Roku Acquires Long-Running PBS TV Series to Stream for Free – canceled + renewed TV shows

0

The granddaddy of house renovation series has a new home. The Roku Channel has acquired the This Old House business which includes a production studio, the ongoing This Old House and Ask This Old House TV shows, and a library of more than 1,500 episodes. The streaming service, which can be accessed via Roku devices (that plug into televisions and stream content from networks and other channels) and the Roku app, reached households with 63 million people in 2020, doubling its scope from 2019.

Current seasons of This Old House (season 42) and Ask This Old House (season 19) are available for free on the Roku Channel as on-demand episodes after they air on local PBS stations. Past seasons are already available for free. It’s unclear how this acquisition will affect the shows’ future on PBS beyond the current seasons.

Roku Acquires “This Old House,” America’s No. 1 TV Home Improvement Program

Acquisition of Business Includes 1,500+ Episode Library, Production Studio, Two Ongoing Series of Top-Rated Original Programming, and Related Digital Assets to Support The Roku Channel’s Growing AVOD Service

SAN JOSE, Calif. — Roku, Inc. (NASDAQ: ROKU) announced today that it has acquired the “This Old House” business, inclusive of its global distribution rights and all of its subsidiary brands, including the “This Old House” and “Ask This Old House” TV programs, the show libraries, all digital assets, and the television production studio. “This Old House” and “Ask This Old House” were the two top-rated home improvement programs in the U.S. in 2020, according to Nielsen data, and have earned a total of 19 Emmy Awards and 102 nominations. Past seasons of “This Old House” and “Ask This Old House” are already available for free on The Roku Channel through both linear and on demand programming. Current seasons (“This Old House”: Season 42 and “Ask This Old House”: Season 19) are available for free on The Roku Channel as on demand episodes after they air on local PBS stations.

“As the top-rated home improvement programs in America, ‘This Old House’ has the broad appeal that is perfectly suited to support The Roku Channel’s ad-supported growth strategy,” said Rob Holmes, VP of Programming, Roku. “‘This Old House created the television home improvement genre and is beloved by millions of fans. We are thrilled to welcome this incredible team, and we could not be more excited to help grow the brand for an entire new generation of home improvement enthusiasts.”

“The passion of the craftspeople on ‘This Old House’ is matched only by its viewers, and we take great pride that over the past four decades we have helped them improve their most valuable asset – their home,” said Dan Suratt, CEO, This Old House Ventures. “Roku is not only the No. 1 TV streaming platform in America, it also represents the future of TV, and we could not think of a better home for This Old House to grow and to continue its leadership position in the home improvement genre.”

“This Old House” marked its 40th Anniversary in 2019 and has continued to experience strong growth as it has diversified its distribution and digital properties. Early movers on free, ad-supported platforms, “This Old House” and “Ask This Old House” connect with audiences across broadcast, cable and multiple streaming services, as well as digital and social channels like YouTube, Twitter, and Instagram, indicating the ongoing and diverse affinity for this storied brand. This broad distribution enables fans to find the authoritative voice in home improvement on their platform of choice, and makes the shows an ideal partner for leading national brands seeking to reach the attractive home improvement consumer segment. Roku plans to continue to provide audiences with access to this great content in a variety of ways, and will build on the legacy of the “This Old House” brand by expanding both the production and distribution of these trusted shows.

This announcement follows a year of robust growth for The Roku Channel, which more than doubled streaming hours and audience, reaching homes with an estimated 63 million people in the fourth quarter of 2020. This continued growing scale has enabled more creative and expansive sourcing strategies for cost-effective content that is well-suited to an AVOD (advertising-supported video on demand) business model. The acquisition of “This Old House” complements The Roku Channel’s primary content strategy of more than 175 licensing and distribution agreements.

Roku’s Rob Holmes concluded, “We believe that the types of incremental content investments we have been making are commensurate with the scale and growth trajectory of The Roku Channel. While TV subscription services require exclusive content on an ongoing basis, we believe that ad-supported models like The Roku Channel thrive with content that is broadly distributed across multiple platforms and services. Furthermore, the more relevant the content becomes for a larger audience, the more appealing it is to advertising partners.”

Roku acquired TOH Intermediate Holdings, LLC, which owns the “This Old House” business, from TZP Group. The executive team of “This Old House” will join Roku, including CEO Dan Suratt, and the team behind the shows will continue creating the content that fans love. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.

Lyrics
He’s home again from another day
She smiles at him as he walks through the door
She wonders if it will be okay
It’s hard for her when he doesn’t respond

He says babe you look a mess
You look dowdy in that dress
It’s just not like it used to be
Then she says…

I may not be a lady
But I’m all woman
From monday to sunday I work harder than you know
I’m no classy lady
But I’m all woman
And this woman needs a little love to make her strong
You’re not the only one

She stands there and lets the tears flow
Tears that she’s been holding back so long
She wonders where did all the loving go
The love they used to share when they were strong

She says yes I look a mess
But I don’t love you any less
I thought you always thought enough of me to always be impressed

I may not be a lady
But I’m all woman
From monday to sunday I work harder than you know
I’m no classy lady
But I’m all woman
And this woman needs a little love to make her strong
You’re not the only one

He holds her and hangs his head in shame
He doesn’t see her like he used to do
He’s too wrapped up in working for his pay
He hasn’t seen the pain he’s put her through

Attention that he paid
Just vanished in the haze
He remembers how it used to be
When he used to say

You’ll always be a lady
‘Cos you’re all woman
From monday to sunday I love you much more than you know
You’re a classy lady
‘Cos you’re all woman
This woman needs a loving man to keep her warm

You’re the only one
You’re a classy lady
‘Cos you’re all woman

So sweet the love that used to be
So sweet the love that used to be

We can be sweet again…

Benedict Cumberbatch And Tom Hiddleston Love A Good Fart Game, And Once Steven Spielberg Was Even Involved

0

I know we’re a little ways into this tale and Steven Spielberg and Tom Hiddleston have not even entered the story, but I still think you need Benedict Cumberbatch’s narration on the different types of farts available in the game in order to enjoy what comes next. And what comes next is the story of the Hiddleston and Cumberbatch goofing off during War Horse, which came out back in 2011. In fact, as Benedict Cumberbatch notes, about a decade ago, they were filming an intense scene for Steven Spielberg’s film that involved about 80 horses and a cavalry charge on an open field, intense stuff. Yet, Cumberbatch was awaiting filming and playing with his fart app of all things, when Steven Spielberg got interested in what he was doing:

The Knife Announce First-Ever Vinyl Release of Tomorrow, in a Year

0

Karin and Olof Dreijer are continuing their 20th anniversary celebration of forming the Knife with a reissue of Tomorrow, in a Year. Their 2010 collaboration with Mt. Sims and Planningtorock will be pressed to vinyl for the first time ever. The 180-gram 2xLP edition will be available August 20, and can be pre-ordered here via Rabid Records.

Tomorrow, in a Year was originally commissioned by the Danish performance group Hotel Pro Forma to provide music for an opera marking the 150th anniversary of Charles Darwin’s On the Origin of Species

“We were invited by this Danish performance theatre company called Hotel Pro Forma to make this piece,” Karin Dreijer said in a press release (taken from a conversation with journalist Ruth Saxelby). “We knew it was supposed to be performed in the Danish Royal Opera House in Copenhagen.”

Olof added:

The theatre company wanted to make an opera about evolution theory and Darwin ideas. And they asked if we could make music for that. We entered that project thinking, Of course, it’s important to talk about Darwin’s impact on fascism in Europe. It is as important as the colonial history of Europe — how Darwin’s ideas were misused to promote fascism. But throughout the project, it became clear that [the theatre company] was not interested in that. They were interested in biology and geology.
