Lord Huron is back with a new single, โNot Dead Yet,โ with a music video of the four-piece performing in Whispering Pines studio. It comes with the second installment of their four-part series, Alive From Whispering Pines, which premiered last night.ย
Theyโll be performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Feb. 23. โNot Dead Yetโ is the bandโs first new music since their 2018โs Vide Noir. From that record, they sharpened their teeth, shedding some of their charm. It lost warm acoustic tones in favor of a hollower, heavier psychedelic sound crafted with help from mixer Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Baroness, MGMT).
The first episode of the groupโs streaming series,ย Alive From Whispering Pines,ย featured an appearance of Mr. Tubbs Tarbell and watched Lord Huron perform some old songs including the gem, โMeet Me in the Woods.โ There was also a hotline for fans to callย Mr. Tubbs Tarbell and ask questions and request songs for the bandโs next performances.
Last night, the setlist included some of those requests along with an unreleased song titled, โMine Forever.โย

A COVID-19 vaccine, administered in late January. Photo: Chet Strange/AFP via Getty Images
Yesterday, several outlets, including the New York Times and Eater NY, reported that a Brooklyn waitress was fired from her job at Red Hook Tavern after she hesitated to get vaccinated. The restaurant had stipulated that its employees must get vaccinated, but Bonnie Jacobsen, the server, asked for more time to research how the vaccine would affect fertility. Speaking with the Times, she said, โI totally support the vaccine,โ and that this one, specific concern was her only hang-up. Now, she is unemployed.
According to guidance from the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, Red Hook Tavernโs policy is completely legal, as employers can have a qualification standard requiring that an employee โshall not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of individuals in the workplace.โ (There are, of course, exemptions, including disability and religious beliefs, which would need to be explored on a case-by-case basis.) Either way, according to the Times, Red Hook Tavernโs owner Billy Durney says theyโve revised policies to make it clearer how employees can pursue an exemption from vaccination.
In fact, businesses can require vaccination of not only employees but also, business writer Andrew Ross Sorkin wrote in December, โin many cases, customers.โ (Sorkin also argues that a mandate could be a โworkplace benefitโ making others more comfortable.) Also in December, NPR published an interview with Johnny Taylor Jr. of the Society for Human Resource Management who says, based on the EEOCโs guidance, โweโll hear that more and more employers are seriously considering a mandate,โ which he adds is typically โunheard of,โ except in industries like health care.
However, many workers like Jacobsen have expressed some reluctance or unwillingness to get vaccinated, which is a problem if we want to actually end this pandemic. A number of restaurant workers Iโve spoken to have expressed hesitancy toward the vaccine, and business owners have also told me that they have employees who are hesitant or, as one person put it, โnot onboardโ with vaccination.
But even if vaccination requirements are allowed by law, they may create problems for owners. According to the Society for Human Resource Management, โIf a significant portion of the workforce refuses to comply, the employer will be put in the very difficult position of either adhering to the mandate and terminating all of these employees, or deviating from the mandate for certain employeesโ โ which could lead to discrimination lawsuits. Employers may also feel an added emotional weight because of the dire state of the industry, and must take into account that if they fire an employee, theyโll be sending that person into a job market with a cripplingly high unemployment rate. (Those same employees have also likely been working fewer hours and making less money.)
Most of the abstaining employees have said that they simply want to be cautious โ though one chef said she has no interest โ and more recent polling shows that vaccine hesitancy is decreasing. Four owners who operate businesses in Manhattan, Brooklyn, and the Bronx say they wonโt force those employees to get vaccinated, and that theyโll instead continue talking to them. โIโm going to try to have a conversation, you know?โ one says.
Annie Lennox โ LA, CA โ Nostalgia Listening Event at Hollywood Forever Cemetery 8/12/14
One of the most successful and talented artists in pop music history is back โ and back like youโve never heard her before.
On October 21st (US)/ October 27th (Rest Of World) 2014, Annie Lennox releases her seventh solo album. Nostalgia is a collection of the iconic singerโs impassioned takes on standards primarily from the 1930s and 1940s, many of them popularized by the likes of Billie Holiday, Nina Simone, Jo Stafford and Louis Armstrong.
Nostalgia is the result of hours Lennox spent perusing vintage recordings and video performances of songs from the Great American Songbook, particularly those rooted in the blues. โI was just curious,โ says the songwriter and singer of Summertime, I Put a Spell On You and Strange Fruit and other, less-widely known songs such Mood Indigo andSeptember in the Rain, โI thought, โI wonder what my voice would be like. Would these songs suit my voice?โ It was like a little challenge. I just sort of got to know them, became friends with them really and had a great deal of joy in the process.โ
The music on the album was mostly played by Annie alongside her long-time collaborator and co-producer, Mike Stevens and was recorded in his West London studio. Finding Lennox at her most soulful, Nostalgia brings levels of depth and warmth to songs that primarily originated from the civil-rights era.
Nostalgia will be released by Island Records in the UK and internationally, and by Blue Note Recordings in the US.
(Nostalgia vinyl edition will be available from September 30th in the US and worldwide from 27th October)

โThatโs marriage for you. Taking two people and their hopes and wishes and passion and creating on life out of all of it.โ
Sweet, swoony and a little saucy. If youโre looking to escape into low angst, friends to lovers marriage of convenience romance with a small-town setting, then Like You Love Me, the first book in the Honey Creek series by Adriana Locke might be just the ticket to make your heart flutter.
โSecond chances are the most romantic of them all.โ
The last time Holden McKenzie visited Honey Creek was the year he graduated high school โ and the last time he saw his friend and crush, Sophie. But the sexy vet is back in town to run his Papโs veterinary surgery whilst heโs vacationing in Florida, but he didnโt count on the gorgeous Sophie Bates knocking the wind out of his sails. Holden stole our hearts!
โI wouldnโt have turned you down when I was seventeen.โ โI wouldnโt have turned you down either,โ he says.
This is a temporary step for Holden who has his sights set on his dream job in Orlando. The break comes just in time as Holden leaves behind a life turned upside down in Arizona. A change of scenery for a few weeks is just what he needs, and the scenery doesnโt get much better than Sophie Bates! Sophie lives and breathes Honey Creek. Running her late Grandmothers B&B is her passion โ itโs something close to her heart and she needs money to keep it afloat. Holden needs a wife to convince his prospective employer that heโs stable โ maybe a marriage of convenience could benefit them both? But can they convince the gossiping Honey Creek residents itโs the real deal? And can they keep their chemistry and hearts out of the equation? We loved their journey from friends to lovers as they both had to dig deep inside themselves to realise whatโs important.
โYou arenโt supposed to mix business and pleasure.โ โI bet that man would be a whole lot of pleasure.โ
Set in Honey Creek, Tennessee we meet an array of quirky characters, including Holdenโs sweet Pap with his corny jokes. We were caught up in the small-town gossip and tall tales and look forward to Sophieโs supportive sister Livโs story and her protective womanising brother, Jobeโs story. We do love small-town romance and the townsfolk of Honey Creek have stolen our hearts! This romance is a sweet and lovely read which we highly recommend.
โI was finally right where I wanted to be โ on the precipice of acquiring everything I ever wanted. So why does it feel like Iโm about to lose something in the process? And why does that hurt so damn much?โ
