GARCES TRADING COMPANY RETURNS WITH ALL YOUR FAVORITE DISHES FROM AMADA, THE OLDE BAR AND VILLAGE WHISKEY IN ONE PLACE

0

  • New ghost kitchen and online marketplace is a major pivot that allows patrons to order food from multiple Garces restaurant concepts for the first time ever in one order, and one delivery/pick-up
  • New marketplace to also feature meal kits, Garces baked goods, holiday packages, smartly priced meal catering for two or more people, and new dining experiences

Garces Trading Company will officially make a grand return and debut this week as a brand-new, advanced ghost kitchen, restaurant hub and online marketplace. Fans of Chef Jose Garces will be able to order, for the first time ever, their favorite dishes from iconic restaurant brands such as Amada, The Olde Bar and Village Whiskey – all in one order and from one location for pick-up, take-out and delivery. When indoor dining shut down city restaurants this past week, Garces has consolidated all restaurant kitchens into one giant ghost kitchen and hub that will now operate out of The Olde Bar in Old City District. Patrons will be able to order, with one click of a button, their Garces favorites like The Olde Bar’s Crab Cake, Jeff’s Fried Chicken, and Crab and Corn Chowder; Amada’s Pulpo a la Gallega, Albondigas and Jamon Serrano; and Village Whiskey’s Village Burger, Baby Back Ribs, Golden Hot Wings and the new Bing Crosby Burger of the Month. Additionally, the new online marketplace will allow consumers to order cocktails, cocktail kits and beer to-go from The Olde Bar. Garces Trading Company also comes back with a massive robust selection of occasion family meals to go, online catering options smartly priced and designed for your current household (two or more), and an assortment of Garces pastries and baked goods only available before in the various restaurants. Dishes from Volver and J. G. Domestic are also making a reappearance – and look for other dishes from other iconic Garces restaurants to be added in the near future. The new marketplace also introduces new experiences – where patrons and their families can dine with a Zoom from Chef Jose Garces himself, make a Gingerbread House with Garces’ Pastry Chef, or enjoy Garces Cookies with Santa – with other experiences on the way. For ordering dinner tonight or this week a la carte, to place your holiday order, or to plan and sign-up for Garces experience, visit: www.garcestradingcompany.com.

“We are excited to give new life to our beloved brand, Garces Trading Company,” said Chef Jose Garces. “We started catering out of GTC back in 2010, which grew into our full-service catering and events division, Garces Events. It’s fitting that our guests can now order their favorites from our restaurants and try our new heat and serve packages created out of this new massive ghost kitchen and restaurant hub. Just because indoor dining has caused a major impact on the city’s restaurants, we wanted to continue to bring our customers their favorite dishes and continue to operate as many brands as we could during this delicate time.”

Garces added, “We wanted a solution for our guests that was thoughtful and sustainable. We saw heaters as a limited time option, as at some point it’ll be too cold to sit outside.  Creating unique dining experiences that make being at home, or any location post-COVID, more fun and enjoyable.  While we do have a delivery partner to supplement busy times, but we are able to service guests who may not feel comfortable coming to the city and create employment  opportunities.

GHOST KITCHEN AND RESTAURANT HUB

Dine tonight with your favorite Garces dishes ordered a la carte and ready for pick-up, take-out, and delivery from Garces iconic restaurants. Order from one, two or three of your favorite restaurant brands!

The close of indoor dining in Philadelphia and across Pennsylvania has caused restaurant and restaurant groups to pivot in all new ways during the global pandemic. Garces has consolidated all kitchen operations for The Olde Bar, Amada and Village Whiskey into their space in the former Bookbinder’s Restaurant – at 125 Walnut Street, in the heart of Old City. The kitchen will operate ghost kitchens for the various Garces brands in this giant kitchen hub that will showcase 8-12 dishes from each restaurant. Current selections

All items for dinner tonight, or this week, through the website will be available for take-out, pick-up and delivery through the Garces Trading Company website – which is then executed through Door Dash. Delivery is available for one fee – no matter how many restaurants you order from. Please note cocktails and beer are through The Olde Bar – and must be picked up in person – as they can’t be delivered.

In January, look for other Garces restaurants to be added to the mix – with exciting news and a virtual grand opening coming to start off the new year.

NEW HEAT AND SERVE MEALS AND PACKAGES

Garces Trading Company also acts as a brand-new innovative and robust online marketplace that will offer dozens of new packages and meals to go – where patrons can enjoy them in their home with two or more family members or household members.

“Our chefs had a blast developing these new Garces Trading Company at-home packages, from our twist on the classic Seven Fishes Christmas Eve tradition to hosting a birthday dinner or bridal shower brunch,” added Garces.

Let Garces  do the cooking! Garces chef’s have curated heat and serve packages that allow you to spend more time friends and family. Joshua Feast’s Family Calls For La Marque Police Firing Ahead Of Independent Autopsy Release | National

0

Civil right attorney Ben Crump is expected to release independent autopsy results that may confirm Joshua Feast was shot in the back by police.

According to the Star Tribune, during a Tuesday press conference, Crump said the results would be released on Wednesday (December 16) at New Life Church in La Marque, Texas but they haven’t arisen as of 8 pm EST.

Crump, during his Tuesday presser, continued his call for a thorough investigation of the killing and for police to release body camera footage from the shooting in La Marque, about 40 miles southeast of Houston.

Feast’s family and Crump are also demanding the firing of Officer Jose Santos, who is accused of pulling the trigger of the gun that killed Feast.

Dozens of demonstrators took to the streets on Saturday (December 12) to demand justice for the 22-year-old Black man who was killed on December 9 by police in La Marque, Texas.

According to Houston local station KHOU, protestors marched from a local food market to the steps of La Marque City Hall to call for the firing of Police Chief Kirk Jackson and officer Jose Santos, who police say shot Feast to death.

Investigators claim Feast was a person of interest in an ongoing investigation of recent shootings in the Houston suburb. Feast was allegedly sitting in his car when he got out and fled. According to an initial report, officers then opened fire on him. He was later taken to a hospital where he later died.

La Marque police say rifles were found at the scene but no context was provided about where they were found or who they belonged to. Investigators also claim Santos had reason to believe Feast was armed. Witnesses say Feast was running from police when he was shot.

Santos has reportedly been placed on administrative leave while the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.

Sebastian Stan & Lily James Cast in Tommy Lee/Pamela Anderson Series

Sebastian Stan & Lily James cast in Tommy Lee/Pamela Anderson series

After leading a number of big screen projects over the past few years, Sebastian Stan (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier) and Lily James (Baby Driver) are returning to the world of television for a new Hulu limited series in which they will star as rocker Tommy Lee and actress Pamela Anderson, according to Deadline.

RELATED: Hulu Greenlights Fifth Season of The Handmaid’s Tale

The series, which is being penned by Rob Siegel under the working title Pam & Tommy, will tell the story of the tumultuous relationship between the Motley Crße drummer/co-founder and former Baywatch star/model, including the notorious incident in which their honeymoon sex tape was stolen and subsequently leaked to the public. Though it will be included, the story will not focus on the scandal but rather explore their relationship going back to their marriage after only 96 hours of having known each other.

In addition to Stan and James, the cast for the series will include Seth Rogen (An American Pickle, This is the End) as the man who stole the couple’s sex tape and sold it off. Rogen will also produce the project with his Point Grey partner Evan Goldberg through their banner alongside Dylan Sellers via Limelight, Dave Franco and Sue Naele and Megan Ellison at Annapurna. Sources report that Rogen and Goldberg’s Point Grey are the ones spearheading the project and brought it forward to the streaming platform.

While sources also report that the real people at the center of the story are not involved with the series, they are aware of it and its development since earlier this year when the Baby Driver star entered talks to portray Anderson in the series.

Jai Wolf’s Debut Single “Indian Summer” Gets Remixed for 5th Anniversary [LISTEN]

12

Jai Wolf‘s breakout single “Indian Summer” celebrates its 5th anniversary with a spectacular re-release, complete with three brand new remixes and an encore!

There’s no better way to kick off the remix pack than with the original, which reminisces on five glorious years, sending us back to the time and place we heard it first. For many of us, that was at a music festival, which strikes a bittersweet chord this year.

The 2020 Encore Mix brightens the mood even further with a theatric, extended production filled with lush synths. Expertly crafted remixes from Kasbo, MEMBA and Duskus also tribute the hit dance track just for the occasion.

Back in 2015, Jai Wolf emerged with his debut single “Indian Summer” on ODESZA‘s label, Foreign Family Collective. The song landed at No. 31 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic songs chart and earned a spot on triple j’s coveted Hottest 100 in Australia that same year.

On the single and re-release, Jai Wolf says, “It’s been surreal to see how this song has impacted so many people around the world over the past 5 years. From wedding aisles, to skydiving, to spin classes, and to festival fireworks, I’m forever grateful for everyone who used the song to soundtrack their lives. Much love to Foreign Family and Odesza for giving it a home.”

Experience “Indian Summer” in new ways below and revisit our 2016 interview with Jai Wolf here.

Anthony Vaccarello Embraces Extreme Social Distancing

0

Photos courtesy of Saint Laurent.

Anthony Vaccarello, the creative director at Saint Laurent, has unveiled YSL’s Women’s Summer 2021 collection, and in a year filled with turmoil and chaos, the collection offers a sense of reprieve. “I wanted to focus on the essence of things,” says Vaccarello of the collection. “I think it’s a sign of the times. But I didn’t want anything bleak or heavy. The desert, to me, symbolizes that yearn for serenity, open space, a slower rhythm. The clothes are also softer, the spirit of the collection is more gentle, stripped back.”

After departing from the customary Paris Fashion Week schedule earlier this year, Saint Laurent has continued to set its own pace. With models sporting sharp silhouettes and gold chains in a secluded desert, the collection is a sign of the times: extreme social distancing coupled with Zoom-ready formalwear on top and barely there bottoms. It’s the balance of comfort and sex appeal we all crave in the stay-at-home era. Leaving behind a year that’s been at once hectic and static, the Summer 2021 collection looks to a future powered by the freedom of movement.

A selection of jewelry featured in the collection are designed by Claude Lalanne.

Eataly Paying $2 Million to Settle Labor Lawsuit

Upscale Italian-market chain Eataly has agreed to pay a total of $1,887,500 to settle a class-action lawsuit brought by employees of its Flatiron and Financial District stores. According to a document sent to eligible employees, the settlement stems from a Fair Labor Standards Act lawsuit filed in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York on November 29, 2017. Any tipped employees who worked at the two Manhattan stores between November 29, 2011 and November 4, 2020 are eligible, as are non-tipped employees involved in the lawsuit.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs allege that Eataly violated New York labor law and the Fair Labor Standards Act by “failing to pay wages for all hours worked due to a policy of time shaving,” “failing to provide proper wage and hour notice,” and “failing to provide proper wage statements.” The plaintiffs specifically allege that managers “routinely instructed” them to “perform unpaid off-the-clock work,” with one of the plaintiffs alleging this happened “throughout his employment … at least three times per week.”

In a 2018 decision conditionally certifying the class so that the suit could proceed, District Judge Katherine B. Forrest wrote that there wasn’t enough evidence to demonstrate that “all nonexempt Eataly employees were victims” of such violations. However, the judge added that the “plaintiffs have sufficiently demonstrated that specific supervisors and/or managers at Eataly violated the relevant statutes by engaging in ‘time shaving’ and other illegal practices.” Per the settlement, the defendants — Eataly America, Inc., Eataly USA LLC, Eataly NY LLC, Eataly NY FIDI LLC, Eataly USA CEO Nicola Farinetti, and Eataly USA CFO Adam Saper — “deny all material allegations” and deny “any wrongdoing of any kind whatsoever, and without admitting any liability.” A spokesperson for the company, Lisa Serbaniewicz, writes, “While we maintain that all employees were paid for all hours worked, we decided to prioritize a resolution and have consequently settled this matter.”

Former employees who spoke with Grub, both before and after the settlement was reached, expressed concerns about how tips were handled — which some alleged was not entirely transparent — and alleged that employees were asked to do work beyond their job descriptions, including when setting up and cleaning up after parties. Several employees say that Eataly eventually switched to an “admin fee” system for expensive buyouts of restaurant spaces within Eataly, which servers say resulted in tipped employees getting paid less than they had been for those parties. It also meant, they say, that they made less than if they had a regular shift.

“They’re making money on top of money, then they’re saving on labor, and it’s not just you come in and it’s an easy party,” one said earlier this year. Another says, “They would especially make the back waiters and those folks do a lot more of that — which, again, is not part of their jobs — to empty out an entire restaurant of furniture, bring it up on the roof in rain and snow, and then have to bring it back in.”

Earlier this year, Eataly caused friction with employees when it used a Paycheck Protection Program loan to rehire staff at wages lower than they were getting through unemployment or than they would normally be paid. One employee said at the time they felt “bamboozled into” the program, and another said, “I feel I’ve been a little stabbed in the back.” An email sent out to staff by North America executive vice-president Raffaele Piarulli presented employees with the choice to opt in to the program or “permanently resign from your position instead.” Employees felt like they were being forced into the program, because resigning would make them ineligible for unemployment, and expressed concerns about co-workers with language barriers.

A number of Eataly employees have expressed lingering resentments about their time at the company. One says that he was written up after he showed up to a scheduled shift on New Year’s Day and found himself unable to work because his chronic back condition had flared up the day before. Management was aware of the issue and had been understanding in the past, he says. Despite providing a doctor’s note after New Year’s, he was given a final warning.

“Granted it was a chronic health issue, but what if someone got hit by a car on the way to work, and they had to call and say they were going to the hospital?” The employee says he felt like it was Eataly’s way of saying “it just didn’t matter — there were no valid reasons for calling out that day because it was a holiday.”

Asked about this incident, Serbaniewicz, the spokesperson, writes, “We do not have, nor have we ever had, a no-tolerance policy for employees calling out on New Year’s Day or any other day.” This is clearly not the case. Per the disciplinary-action form, the individual “failed to get shift coverage on a day management alerted the staff that call-outs wouldn’t be accepted.” Additionally, in a December 29, 2019, email sent to employees of Birreria (Eataly’s rooftop beer garden and microbrewery), general manager Mariela Avello writes, “As previous years, please be aware that call outs won’t be accepted” on New Year’s Eve and Day.

Another former employee had previously told Grub about this incident, and a third confirmed it: “There’s quite a propensity in the restaurant industry to not believe people when they’re sick or believe people when they’re hurt. It’s always like, ‘Were you out drinking?’” one says of the incident. “It’s kind of just yet again a way to control. It’s not in the best interest of people.”
