Rapper Cupcakke Defends Diss Track Mocking Lizzo, Cardi B and More

0

Rapper Cupcakke is not backing down from her diss track that calls out some of the most prominent female stars in hip-hop.

The performer had become a top trending topic on Twitter on Tuesday, Dec. 15 following the release of her remix to the song “How to Rob.” After some social media users took issue with the harsh words directed at Lizzo, Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B and others, Cupcakke took to Twitter to defend the lyrics.

One fan supported Cupcakke by posting that diss tracks are a core element of rap, and the vocalist replied, “I think it’s a beautiful thing & any one upset with it it’s just use to the mediocre. Understand it’s not male rappers complaining it’s female rappers . Sit back & enjoy talent at its finest & for the last time it’s all love to all the rappers mentioned. Don’t be sensitive.”

Cupcakke later added, “I decided I’m going to get baptized in the morning . On that note . Everyone have a peaceful blessed night . In the name of Jesus I pray . Amen.”

New syndicated talk shows can have a tough time getting established and many are cancelled after just a year or two. Currently airing its second season, The Kelly Clarkson Show appears to have bucked the trend and has already been renewed for seasons three and four, keeping the series on the air through the 2022-23 broadcast season.

According to NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, the two additional years have already been sold to stations in more than 75% of the country.

The program aired original episodes over the summer when most daytime series are airing repeats. After filming remotely from Montana and from Clarkson’s home in Los Angeles during part of the lockdown, the syndicated series returned to Universal Studios in Los Angeles to film season two in September.

Here are some additional details about the two-season renewal:

NBCUNIVERSAL RENEWS ‘THE KELLY CLARKSON SHOW’ THROUGH 2023

Emmy Award-Winning Syndicated Talker and Highest-Rated Talk Show to Debut in Seven Years Gets Picked Up for Two Additional Seasons

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – Dec. 15, 2020 – NBCUniversal Syndication Studios is giving Kelly Clarkson fans something to celebrate in 2020. The studio has sold the critically acclaimed, Emmy Award-winning daytime tentpole “The Kelly Clarkson Show” to the NBC Owned Television Stations group for two additional seasons though 2023, it was announced today by Tracie Wilson, Executive Vice President, NBCUniversal Syndication Studios.

The hourlong daytime program, which currently airs in 100% of the country on more than 200 stations, has already been sold in national syndication to more than 75% of the U.S. for its third and fourth seasons. “The Kelly Clarkson Show” is produced and distributed by the recently renamed NBCUniversal Syndication Studios, which is currently expanding its portfolio.

“One ray of sunshine in this wildly unpredictable year is that we get to continue to deliver to stations and fans a show that brings people together,” Wilson said. “This wouldn’t be possible without the heart and humor of the talented and dedicated Kelly Clarkson and our production team, led by the incomparable Alex Duda, both of whom are masters of storytelling. It’s easy to see why Emmy voters, critics and viewers have become such loyal fans of the show.”

Said Valari Staab, President, NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations: “‘The Kelly Clarkson Show’ is one of the most optimistic success stories in first-run syndication. Kelly is a beloved performer and host with deep roots at NBC and we are delighted to have her continue to be a very important and treasured part of our stations’ programming.”

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” made an unprecedented move to stay in original episodes over the summer. They continued to film remotely from Montana and from Clarkson’s home in Los Angeles during part of the COVID-19 lockdown. The syndicated series returned to its home at the Universal Studios lot to film season two in September.

NBCUniversal gave Clarkson an early season two renewal after the show brought in strong ratings and became the most watched new talk show in seven years, averaging 1.6 million viewers daily and delivering the youngest audience among the top four daytime shows.

“The Kelly Clarkson Show” is hosted by Emmy Award-winning host and GrammyAward-winning artist Kelly Clarkson. The critically acclaimed daytime talk show headed into its second season as the most watched new talk show in seven years. Season two features in-studio guests and a virtual in-studio audience with fans from across the country.

In its first year on the air, “The Kelly Clarkson Show” received three Daytime Emmy wins, more than any other talk show in 2020. Clarkson was named Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host and the show also received a Critic’s Choice Award nomination. Showrunner and executive producer Alex Duda received a Gracie Award in 2020, which recognized “The Kelly Clarkson Show” as exemplary programming created by, for and about women.

Clarkson’s “weekday hang” includes a mix of celebrity guests and everyday people, performances, games and her unfiltered perspective on life, relationships, parenting, kids and things that make her laugh her along the way.

Know-It-All – The Polar Express

Imagine how much it would take to ruin a magical experience like that of The Polar Express. You’re headed to the North Pole to meet Santa Claus, and you have this loudmouth kid going on about how everything works, and just being obnoxious. And let’s be honest, this is an advanced level of obnoxious. Like, so obnoxious that other children (who, by nature, can be a little obnoxious) notice it. He gets a little better by the end of the movie, and he may grow up to be a perfectly normal dude, but still, I’m not willing to take the chance and let this dweeb ruin my holiday.

Teena Marie – Irons In The Fire (Gordy Records 1980)

6

“Irons In The Fire” is a song written by Mickey Hearn.

Mary Christine Brockert (March 5, 1956 – December 26, 2010), better known by her stage name Teena Marie, was an American singer, songwriter, and producer. She was known by her childhood nickname Tina before taking the stage name Teena Marie; she later acquired the nickname of Lady Tee (sometimes spelled Lady T), given to her by collaborator and friend, Rick James.

She was known for her distinctive soulful vocals, which initially caused many listeners to believe she was African American. Her success in R&B and soul and loyalty to these genres would earn her the title Ivory Queen of Soul. She played rhythm guitar, keyboards, and congas. She also wrote, produced, sang, and arranged virtually all of her songs since her 1980 release, Irons in the Fire, which she later said was her favorite album.

Irons in the Fire is the third album by American R&B/soul singer Teena Marie, released on July 6, 1980 by Motown. Her first self produced effort, it was dedicated to her father, Thomas Leslie Brockert. It received positive reviews on its release.

Irons in the Fire peaked at #9 on the Black Albums chart and #38 on the Pop Albums chart. Lead single “I Need Your Lovin'” peaked at #9 on the US Black Singles chart and #37 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also reached #28 in the United Kingdom, making it Marie’s second and last top 30 single in that country. In addition, along with the track “Chains”, “I Need Your Lovin'” peaked at number two for two weeks on the dance charts.

With Teena on piano, she’s accompanied by Lloyd Linderoth (harp).

People say I’ve got my hands in too many things
Keeping time with paupers just as well as kings
I toss my hat up to the silver sky
And then I sigh
Look at all the blessings in my life

Here I am your Piscean holocaust
Born in Venice Harlem with some sweet and sour sauce
I close my eyes and still somehow I feel
You’re here with me
And you are such a blessing in my life

Here I am, I’m just a fragment of my God
Heavenly father, hear me
Sometimes life gets so hard
With you as my desire
Spirit’s gonna build me higher
I’ve got to keep my irons in the fire
Got to keep my irons in the fire
