Live Music Industry Faces Projected $30 Billion Loss
As fans lament the loss of live music during the nearly year-long pandemic, many who work in the live music business are struggling to survive. In a report published on Friday, music industry magazine Pollstar says that the live music business lost a projected $30 billion in 2020 Itâs the first time in history where losses far outweigh gains.
Pollstarâs Boxoffice database would have hit a record-setting $12.2 billion in 2020, but instead incurred $9.7 billion in box office losses. The full story is in Pollstarâs 2020 Year-End Special Issue.Â
A release notes that âthe projected $30+ billion figure includes unreported events, ancillary revenues, including sponsorships, ticketing, concessions, merch, transportation, restaurants, hotels, and other economic activity tied to the live events.â
Tours that started in late 2019 and continued through the early days of the pandemic were included in the figure. Sir Elton Johnâs Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour saw $87.1 million grossed between Nov. 30, 2019 through March 7. The rest of the top earners include Celine Dion, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, U2, Queen + Adam Lambert, Post Malone, Eagles, Jonas Brothers, Dead & Company and Andrea Bocelli.
To arrive at the $30+ billion in projected losses statistic, numbers used were the 10.92% year-over-year growth rate tabulated in Q1, the last full quarter before the Pandemic,â according to the release. The $9.7 billion in Pollstar Boxoffice losses represents an increase over the $8.9 billion projected in Q1 as losses grew substantially after the quarterâs end.
While some club-size venues are open across the United States, and New Zealand, who has essentially eliminated the virus, is seeing cross-country tours, âitâs been an extraordinarily difficult year for the events industry, which has been disproportionately impacted by the Coronavirus,â says Ray Waddell, president of Oak View Groupâs Media & Conferences Division, which oversees Pollstar and sister publication VenuesNow.
However, he sees brighter days ahead.
âWith vaccines, better testing, new safety and sanitization protocols, smart ticketing and other innovations, the live industry will be ramping up in the coming months, and weâre sure that at this time next year weâll have a very different story to tell,â Waddell said.

Blake Lively Hilariously Trolls Husband Ryan Reynolds With Desserts
Blake Lively has a top-tier sense of humor.Â
On Thursday, Dec. 10, the Gossip Girl alum took to her Instagram Story to share four of her “favorite things in the world” from Vancouver. In the first photo, three desserts were situated on a table, which included ice cream, donuts and a pie. The second Story included the fourth dessert.Â
Blake, whose husband Ryan Reynolds was born in British Columbia city, then jokingly teased her followers, “…Who did you think I was gonna say??” However, she did give her superhero a subtle nod with a Deadpool gif in the corner. Â
Of course, the happy couple, who have been married for eight years, have displayed their elite trolling throughout their relationship.
In an interview with Sunday Sitdown with Willie Geist podcast, Ryan explained, “We’re people that don’t take ourselves too seriously. The only people I really love to make fun of is us.” And Blake agreed with that sentiment in an interview with HELLO! magazine back in 2018.Â
THE ROMANTIC PACT (Kings of Football #2) by MEGHAN QUINN
âWe had so many great times together, and if there is one thing Iâm thankful for in my life, itâs you.â
The Romantic Pact by Meghan Quinn was just as the title suggests, romantic to its very core! The story was a big beating heart set in a winter wonderland that had us swept up in wonderful picturesque scenery with a warm and joyous Christmas atmosphere. We fell in love with love and we fell in love with Crew and Hazel. But above all, we fell in love with Pops.
âWhen you left, I was never the same.â
We met Crew in The Revenge Pact and were excited to read his story. And what a story it was. The premise is incredibly emotional and inspiring, and its beauty is in the words and voice of Crewâs grandad, Pops, who sadly passed away. Meghan Quinn is quite the beautiful storyteller. We know this Author has a wonderful sense of humour in her stories, however, what we were in awe of was the depth of emotion in The Romantic Pact. Whilst we laughed, swooned, and revelled in the beauty of Christmas in Germany, we certainly shed quite a lot of tears as well. The adventure we went on with Crew and Hazel was breath-taking at times, it was passionate, intense, and incredibly angsty too.
âWhatâs not going to happen is youâre not going to push me away because youâre afraid of the unknown. Youâre not going to push me away because you think itâs easier that way. And youâre not going to push me away because you think itâll hurt less.â
Crew and Hazel have been friends since childhood, seeing each other every summer at Popsâ farm. The bond between them was one of strength, love, and friendship. Life happens though and whilst they may have spent three years apart, the history and bond they had with Pops remained strong and tied their lives together still. When he sends them on a road trip in Germany to experience what he himself went through, it brings forward intense soul searching, memories, regrets and longing, passion and above all fun filled love. Pops sent them on a trip to find peace within themselves and each other, find their own truth as well as closure to their grief. And to relearn love.
âWe laugh, and I canât think of a moment where Iâve felt more carefree, looser, happier. I donât think Iâve felt this way in a long time. Years. Probably since I last saw her.â
The Romance Pact was such a beautiful journey, we lost ourselves completely to the story, we lost our hearts to Hazel and Crew and we found inspiration in the words penned by Pops.
âYou have one life to live. Donât waste it on expectations when you can live joyfully through your passion.â
Feige Teases Hero’s Multiple Identities
Moon Knight Series: Feige Teases Heroâs Multiple Identities
During Disneyâs Investor Day, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has revealed new details about Disney+âs upcoming MCU series Moon Knight, describing the series as an â action-adventureâŚIndiana Jones-type story.â He also went on to confirmed that the eccentric heroâs multiple identities will be their own characters in the series. Itâs interesting to note that Feige wasnât able to confirm whether Oscar Isaac has indeed signed into the the project or not. A potential reason is that negotiations with Isaac might still be happening.
âBringing a whole new different vibe to the MCUâŚThe character Moon Knight is a complex vigilante who suffers from dissociative identity disorder,â Feige teased. âThese multiple identities who live inside him are very distinct characters in the series. The backdrop of our story is an incredible Egyptian iconography. Egyptology is something the worldâs always been fascinated by and weâre going to tap into it in a fun and bold way.â
