I bought this album for the track sookie sookie and wasn’t disappointed. This track alone is worth buying the album for if extended funky jazz jam sessions float your boat! An album to play to lift your mood and chill you out.
This might be straight out of the magic era of jazz – the guitar work against that groove in the back is tremendous. After hearing this, you just know what John Scofield has been listening to all these years.
This album moves seamlessly between the cool and the funk – and Grant Green just throws runs around with a real sense of ease. The backing players are right on the pulse – keeping the music really well grounded.
This lets each soloist take the lead with a combined sense of abandon and purpose. You can just tell these players are having a great time. Sookie Sookie epitomises this.
