“It should’ve been in there from day one of the Olympics,” DJ Qbert, one of Rock Steady’s first DJs, told HipHopDX after the announcement was made. “People are starting to figure out Hip Hop culture’s breaking has way more flavor in body language than what the Olympics had to offer previously.”

Breaking has come a long way since its beginning in the Bronx during the early 1970s. It was particularly popular among Black and Puerto Rican communities.
