What do they have to do besides enjoy eggnog and holiday specials. I found five great off the beaten path holiday activities to do in Los Angeles during Christmas.

Best described as walking through the LA zoo at night surrounded by lots of pretty lights and Xmas décor. Snacks, Illuminated displays and exhibits are await those desiring to partake in holiday nighttime festivities. So, come on down to the Los Angeles Zoo during the Christmas Holiday. Part of zoo is open so the animals remain asleep – dreaming to eat Santa Claus.

THE HOLIDAY LIGHTS FESTIVAL TRAIN AT GRIFFITH PARK

A ten minute ride around the one mile track of Griffith Park that has been made into a makeshift winter wonderland – in the middle of the San Gabriel valley. It’s an elaborately decorated circle of holiday adventure. An awesome family activity to soak in the ambiance of the holiday season. The staff is filled with Christmas cheer – making the experience worthwhile. Plus – there are snacks! You can’t beat snacks. Souvenirs are also sold outside.

MARINA DEL REY HOLIDAY BOAT PARADE

On one fateful night in Marina Del Rey all the boats comes together in an aquatic spectacle to rival all other Christmas Boat parades. The Main channel becomes magnificently clogged with lights and garland. Yachts that Santa Claus would probably drop water proof presents on to the decks decked out with bells of Holly. But Santa don’t ride in boats. But if he did, he would not miss the Marina Del Rey Boat parade. Drive, swim or paddle on down.

CHRISTMAS TREE LANE – ALTADENA

If taking long holiday drives while gas prices are dropping are your thing – I got the place for you. The Christmas Tree Lane in Altadena on the outskirts of Pasadena is perfect for the voyeur in you. Santa Rosa street comes alive with light strew trees, standing tall over the elegantly decorated roads. It’s been a tradition since 1920. Everyone likes traditional stuff, don’t they? I know I do. So, roll on down to Christmas Tree Lane. Drive carefully and watch out for Carolers singing catchy off beat Christmas tunes.

THE GROVE

The big Red clad man must have a condo on Wilshire BLVD. Cause the Grove was made for Christmas. It transforms into a place of magnificent pre-Christmas Lore. Ornaments and lights are hung carefully everywhere. The internationally famous Grove fountain has probably experienced a recent Reindeer passing or two. While there you can also stop into Santa’s workshop and meet Santa for yourself. You might be able to fill out an application. I don’t know. You can try. Don’t miss the tree lighting ceremony of the 100 feet Redwood like Christmas tree. The crazy thing! It snows for one hour each day! Snow in Los Angeles! No way! So come join the very packed Grove to enjoy all the holidays trimmings.

Warning. You might be shoulder to shoulder with other holiday enthusiasts so Candy Canes are mandatory – mint.
