Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel webs a trio of directors

According to Variety, the long-awaited Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sequel has officially announced Joaquim Dos Santos, Kemp Powers, and Justin K. Thompson as its trio of directors. Sony Pictures Animation already announced Dos Santos, but, per the trade, the director has been working alongside Powers and Thompson on the project from the start.

The trio will direct the comic book sequel based on a script by Phil Lord, Chris Miller and David Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings).

ā€œThe crew behind the ā€˜Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verseā€™ set such a ridiculously high bar, and weā€™re humbled to take on the challenge of charting the next chapter in the story of Miles Morales,ā€ the directing team said in a joint statement.

Lord, Miller, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad and Christina Steinberg are all returning to produce the project, with Alonzo Ruvalcaba co-producing. Original Spider-Verse director Peter Ramsey will executive produce, along with Aditya Sood.

For Dos Santos and Thompson, the project marks their directorial debuts. The former has worked on series such as Nickelodeonā€™s The Legend of Korra and Avatar: The Last Airbender along with DreamWorks Animationā€™s Voltron: Legendary Defender and Warner Bros.ā€™ Justice League Unlimited and Teen Titans. Thompson won an Annie Award for his work on Into the Spider-Verseā€™s production design, a position he also served on Sony Animationā€™s Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs films.

Powers is currently enjoying quite a bit of limelight, having recently co-directed Pixarā€™s hit animated comedy-dramaĀ Soul. He also received an Academy Award nomination for best adapted screenplay for the civil rights drama One Night in Miami.
