WOW…. No Tomorrow by Carian Cole was everything. It had us reading till the early hours of the morning as we followed Piper and Blue over a decade of soul mate love, missed opportunities, and harrowing tragic heartbreak. This is a long book and the way in which it was written, we felt like we’d lived a thousand lives alongside Piper, through an excruciatingly intense love affair that had to weather every storm and high sea. Without question, No Tomorrow is now one of our all-time favourite Rockstar romances and a favourite for 2021. This is a book that we will remember for everything it was and everything it made us feel.

“It’s like living with a monster in your head, Piper. And it just fuckin’ owns you, consumes you, bleeds you, tortures you. It doesn’t let you sleep. It doesn’t let you be happy. It doesn’t let you trust. So you do what it says just to shut it the fuck up, to try to get just a tiny amount of peace, and then it starts all over again.”

We have a deep-rooted love for those epic romances where we must go through the wringer of emotions, so when paired with the much-loved Rockstar trope -well- we’re left in utter book-love heaven. This is our first book by Carian Cole, and we feel like we’ve unearthed a diamond in our back catalogue of books to read. What a powerful POWERFUL love story! Our hearts had a constant ache in them, we cried tears at the sheer beauty, the agonising hopelessness, and the heartbreaking loss. As for the angst…Woah, off the charts! And let’s not forget the heat, scorching! We also must mention the importance of the mental health aspect, in No Tomorrow it was treated with respectful kid gloves despite the devastating impact to the sufferer and those who love them. It broke us, yet the inspiration and healing felt magnificent in its honesty and purity.

‘I don’t know if it’s good or bad that I’ve been both his muse and his therapy. I suppose some might say that’s obsession and not real love. Some might say what we have is dependency and co-dependency. I wonder if it matters.’

Be still our swoony hearts at the beautiful, inspiring, broken, talented and loving, Blue. This man owned our hearts throughout this story. Did he infuriate us? Yes. Did we want to hit him with our kindles? Yes. Did we despair at the heartbreak he caused? Yes.  But we fell in love with him all the same. As for Piper, she went from an innocent twenty-one-year-old awkward, vulnerable and unassuming girl to a powerhouse of strength, forgiveness, and love. Piper was a wonderful heroine who grew till she became a force of compassion and understanding. Her heart virtually being incinerated yet beating all the same for that one love which she knew was hers and hers alone. We felt for Piper, we hurt for her and we rejoiced with her. Theirs was a love that needed to beat all the odds and withstand the test of time, absence, and heartbreak. We willed it to be so as we furiously turned the pages.

“Because I love him. People don’t have to be perfect to be loved. They can be broken and sick and messed up and ugly. Everyone deserves love. And he makes me happy.”

Some might say that Blue and Piper’s relationship was toxic, and we would have to say in return, perhaps to an extent. However, love comes in so many forms and shapes and the heart wants who and what it wants. The way in which you love, who you love and why cannot be defined. And without question Blue and Piper were meant to be. The character connection was extremely important in this book due to the nature of the story. It quite simply had to carry it. It had to be fierce, obsessive, and all-encompassing. We felt their love to be all of that and more. In our opinion, Carian Cole nailed it, and now we feel exhausted, finding ourselves staring into space thinking of Piper, Blue, and the wonderful Acorn.
