The cult film Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is getting adapted into a television series with the help of Norman Reedus and AMC Studios.

According to Deadline, Reedus’ bigbaldhead production company and AMC Studios are in the early stages of development for the Faster, Pussycat! series. While it will adapt the film’s wild tale, it will focus on its strong female cast and its disruption of societal norms. Under the two-year first-look deal Reedus signed with the network, the project is fully backed by the estate of Russ Meyer, who directed the original film.

“I’ve been watching Russ Meyer’s film since I was a kid, wearing my Faster, Pussycat! Kill Kill! shirt to school,” says Reedus. “It’s safe to say I’m beyond inspired by Russ’ style of filmmaking and I am over the moon excited for the opportunity to reimagine this story for the modern world.”

Reedus serves as executive producer alongside bigbaldhead’s JoAnne Colonna and Amanda Verdon. The sole trustee of the Russ Meyer Charitable Trust Janice Cowart will also serve as EP for the upcoming. Faster, Pussycat series.

“I hit it off with bigbaldhead right away,” says Cowart. “I am convinced this team is special and can be entrusted to honor Russ Meyer’s iconic film. I am more than excited to collaborate with them alongside AMC.”

Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill! is an exploitation film directed by Meyer and co-written by Jack Moran. It follows a trio of go-go dancers as they go on a killing spree in the California desert. It stars Tura Satana, Haji, Lori Williams, and Susan Bernard. While it was critically panned during its initial release, it has reached cult status and is highly praised.

Reedus is most known for his role as Daryl Dixon in The Walking Dead. The final season of the popular AMC show will premiere in August. A television spinoff featuring Daryl and Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier is scheduled for a 2023 debut.
