Starkville MS – OMG Grill House
A West Point restaurant is opening a second location in Starkville. OMG Grill House will open by February at the former 1883 Smokehouse on Highway 12. Restaurant owner TA Amos first opened the West Point location in March 2020. “(Business) has been good, especially during the pandemic with our curbside services,” Amos said. “The opportunity presented itself to open one in Starkville. We’ve done really well in West Point. In fact, we’d like to start franchising.”
Houston TX – Juliet Restaurant
Candy Shack Daiquiris founder James McGhee will open Juliet Restaurant in early 2022, according to a press release. Located at 5857 Westheimer Rd., details on what kind of food Juliet will serve are light, but McGhee has tapped some high profile collaborators to bring the concept to life.
Alameda CA – Flavors of the Isle
A new Jamaican restaurant will be opening soon in Over-The-Rhine. Flavors of the Isle is coming to 1807 Elm Street, right next to Findlay Market. The restaurant specializes in jerked meats, a style of cooking that originated in Jamaica in which the meat is dry rubbed or marinated wet with a spice blend and then cooked.
Greenville SC – 810 Billiards & Bowling
They gutted the building, transforming it into the first 810 Billiards & Bowling location, an expansive “eater-tainment” venue catering to families and the late-night crowd. With bowling, billiards, a full-service bar, restaurant, table tennis, arcade games, air hockey and more, 810 Billiards & Bowling now has six locations across South Carolina and Arizona, with another three locations planned. Now, they’re bringing it to Greenville, with plans to open a franchise in spring 2022 at 842 Woods Crossing, close to Haywood Mall.
New York NY – L’Abeille
A former Joël Robuchon protégé will be leading the kitchen at a new upscale Tribeca spot opening in the spring. For chef and co-owner Mitsunobu Nagae — who has worked at Joël Robuchon restaurants in Tokyo, Paris, and NYC — this will be his first solo restaurant, located at 412 Greenwich Street between Laight and Hubert streets. Called L’Abeille, which means bee in French, the name is a reference to Nagae’s nickname, Mitsu, which means honey.
Tampa FL – King of the Coop
One of Tampa’s most popular fried chicken spots is coming to St. Petersburg as King of the Coop is opening a new location on 22nd Avenue across from Tyrone Square in late January. Famous for its Nashville hot chicken, King of the Coop first opened in 2019 and has already been voted best fried chicken in Tampa Bay two years in a row.

The Perfect Way to Watch Denis Villeneuve’s Adaptation
Denis Villeneuve’s Dune finally made its way to theaters and HBO Max in October and, despite the influx of hype, didn’t disappoint. Even at nearly three hours, the sci-fi extravaganza still felt too short, its overall impact only dampened by an all-to-abrupt ending that sets the stage for what should be an extraordinary sequel.

Written by Villeneuve, Jon Spaihts, and Eric Roth based on the novel by Frank Herbert, Dune follows Paul Atreides, a young man with extraordinary powers who is prophesied to be the one who will unite the universe. As the various houses and factions battle with each other, Paul must set out on a journey to fulfill his destiny and bring peace to the galaxy.
Featuring an all-star cast that includes Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Óscar Isaac, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, and Stephen McKinley Henderson, Dune swings for the fences and absolutely hits a home run. The acting is exquisite, the story, however complex, fascinating. And the eye-popping FX and stunning visuals only add to the flavor.
I thought the movie looked great on HBO Max, despite the limitations presented by streaming, but was absolutely blown away by this new 4K edition (order here). The 2160p transfer is quite impressive, even if this edition lacks those magnificent IMAX sequences shot in 1:90:1 aspect ratio. No matter, the 2:39:1 format lends itself well to Villeneuve and cinematographer Greig Fraser’s magnificent landscapes and spectacular battle sequences. Colors pop more than ever, while the contrast between, say, the dark shadows of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen’s lair and the sandy dunes of Arrakis is terrific.

Likewise, Dolby Atmos’ sound mix explodes from the speakers. I own a relatively modest 5.1 surround sound home theater system and enjoyed the various sounds crackling from each speaker. Hans Zimmer’s breathtaking score has a tendency to take center stage during some of the bigger sequences, but not in a way that detracts from the viewing experience like Christopher Nolan’s recent Tenet.
Special features are good, but not as mesmerizing as one would expect from a release of this ilk. Most are brief featurettes that run less than 10 minutes and serve mostly as promotional material with paper-thin insight into the actual production, while the lack of a commentary is disappointing considering the abundance of material fans would surely love to learn more about.
Dune will obviously enjoy better releases in the future, particularly once the franchise has concluded, but this new 4K offering is currently the best way to view Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi epic in all of its glory.

Burko Drops “Infrared” + Debut EP Announce
San Diego has become a mecca for house and techno in the USA over the past several years. Quickly rising in the scene is SD-native Burko who dropped a monster-of-a-track “Infrared” ahead of his debut EP. On the track, Burko tells us: “The very first single, “Infrared,” off my upcoming EP, is out today featuring the lovely Mary Helen laying down some hypnotic vocals. This song has been one of the staples in my sets the past year and I’m excited to be able to finally share it. This release marks the first of four tracks on the Infrared EP.”
Falling in love with the electronic music scene in Amsterdam, Burko got his start DJ’ing abroad in Amsterdam where he thrived in the Dutch underground circuit. He returned stateside with a fresh admiration for the scene, bringing with him a uniquely dark-yet-melodic sound that launched him to the forefront of the California ware-house scene in a very short order.
In 2021 Burko released a string of remixes on SoundCloud, giving popular tracks by ACRAZE, Billie Eilish, Flume, Muse, Hans Zimmer and The Temper Trap his signature Medieval House spin.
