She can sing, she can dance, she can act…what can’t Jennifer Lopez do?

The multi-hyphenate star has a long list of achievements but her latest venture JLO Beauty might be her most exciting chapter yet. Whether you’re a skincare fanatic or just want to be like JLo, the “On The Floor” singer’s growing beauty line offers luxurious but accessible skincare that will help your inner beauty shine through! Not to mention, the actress spent over two years developing the product line with over 100+ reformulations until she got everything just right. And given her beautiful, ageless skin and world-renowned glow, we trust her.

In January, the actress hilariously responded to a fan on Instagram speculating she had gotten botox, saying, “Get you some JLO Beauty and feel beautiful in your skin!! And here is another JLO Beauty secret: try spending your time being more positive, kind and uplifting of others…don’t spend your time trying to bring others down…that will keep you youthful and beautiful too!!!”

In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we rounded up our favorite products from the Latina artist’s skincare line that will have you dancing because your skin looks so good!

BRING ME HOME by NICOLA HAKEN

0

“The thing with my platform if that’s what you want to call it, or social media, is most people don’t want your opinion. They want to hear their own views told back to them in your voice. Also, if I’m being honest, I don’t like the word awareness. We need to stop using that word. I don’t think there’s anybody who isn’t aware of autism anymore. At this point, we’re all aware, there are just people who choose to be ignorant fucks. Same with mental health, sexuality, gender. They’re aware…They just choose not to care.”

Bring Me Home by Nicola Haken is truly one of the most beautiful, emotional, and REAL books we’ve read this year.  We love highlighting quotes and passages when we read, words that either resonate with us or stand out because of their beauty, heartbreak, love, or joy. We chose a handful of these for our review to try and convey the story and our emotions. Well, with Bring Me Home we have highlighted over ten pages worth, whole pages and so many gems of emotion that we will struggled to choose just a few for this review.

‘I’d grown up knowing I was different, that something in my head wasn’t working properly, and I couldn’t understand why no one could fix it. How could they? I’d think. I couldn’t talk to people.’

Hugo and Helen’s story can at times read a bit like a fanfic borne out of love for Harry Styles, however classing it as only that, would be a great disservice to this Author. The writing is phenomenal, the characters incredible and the themes so very relevant. Mental health, people’s daily battles, spectrum disorders, or even ‘just’ day-to-day struggles with who we are or want to be because society strives for perfection. We say ‘just’ but really, there’s nothing just ‘just’ about it. The struggles are real, they can’t be measured, and they can’t be generalised, nor do they fit in a -one size fits all- box. Everyone’s struggles or difficulties are valid.

“Heli, the scales can only give you a numerical reflection of your body’s relationship with gravity. They can’t tell you how pretty your smile is, how cute this dimple is or how compassionate your heart is. They won’t tell you how loved you are or how you just being in a room with someone can make them feel like the most important person in the fucking world…”

Transparency, understanding, presence, and guidance are so vital, as is reassurance and ‘being there’ for the differences, for the break-downs, for the highs as well as the lows. Bring Me Home is a journey, a story of life, love, and perceived social expectations and gratifications. It is not an easy read at times but it’s beautiful in its acute relevance as it bares its soul to the reader, word by word.

‘I couldn’t see the point of life if we didn’t feel it. The sound above was just a sound. The cedar tree in the distance, nothing but an image. The music had gone, the beauty, the purpose. I’d become a shell. A robot. I could move but I wasn’t alive. Life didn’t exist when you couldn’t hear lyrics in a bird’s song, when you didn’t see a view looking at a century old tree. Life without art, without passion, made no sense.’

The way in which Nicola Haken wrote Hugo Hayes and Helen Jenkins’ childhood friendship and adult romance was incredibly raw, incredibly honest, and incredibly realistic. There are no quick fixes for what people can face, some things can’t even, in all truthfulness, be fixed. Yet friendship and love can make them easier to live with because with love comes understanding, compassion, and acceptance. Love can come in so many guises and people can come in all shapes of colourful tapestry. So yes, we cried, we laughed, and we fell in love. We questioned, we tutted, we despaired, and we celebrated. What a truly compelling and stunning journey we were on with Hugo and Heli. One we cannot recommend highly enough. This is not simply just storytelling, Bring Me Home is an experience!

“You can stop hiding now, Hugo. I’ve found you. I’m not leaving and you’re going to be okay. Now, sleep. Sleep and remember I love you.”
I just hope it’s enough to save you.

Afterlife ‘Sets the Table’ for Future Films

Although Ghostbusters: Afterlife has yet to be released, director Jason Reitman teased the possibility of future Ghostbusters films during a recent panel at New York Comic Con.

At a panel for the upcoming film (via The Hollywood Reporter), which also included a surprise screening for the fans in attendance, Reitman said that their goal with Afterlife was to make a film that allowed for future stories to be told, whether that be from him or from any other director who may dive into the franchise.

“We wanted to make a movie that opened the universe to all kinds of stories,” Reitman said. “I want to see Ghostbusters movies from all of my favorite directors and I hope this movie sets the table for them.”

Currently, plans for the future of the series are unknown, although it’s hard to imagine Sony not wanting to dive into more films if Ghostbusters: Afterlife succeeds when it releases.

In Ghostbusters: Afterlife, in hopes of starting a new life, a single mom and her two kids arrive in a small town to move into a beaten-down farmhouse in Oklahoma that they’ve inherited from their grandfather. However, they soon discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

A group of Emmy nominees will lead the film. Carrie Coon will play Callie, Mckenna Grace is playing Phoebe, Finn Wolfhard is Trevor, and Paul Rudd is going to be Mr. Grooberson. It will also feature the return of original Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts as they reprise their iconic roles as Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Winston Zeddemore, Dana Barrett, and Janine Melnitz, respectively.

Reitman (JunoYoung AdultTully) is directing Ghostbusters: Afterlife using a screenplay he co-wrote with Gil Kenan (Monster HousePoltergeist). Reitman is officially taking over from his father Ivan Reitman who helmed the first two films, with the original director serving as a producer.

Marc Straight Releases New Melodic, Vocal-Driven Single, “Empathy” ft. Yuki

0

Following his last single “see you” with internet personality, musician and voice actress LilyPichu, Marc Straight continues the rollout toward his album with a new single, “Empathy” featuring Yuki.

Doubling down on his love of Japanese culture, Yuki passionately sings the verses in Japanese while the chorus is in English, giving the song an almost mysterious tone — at least for those who don’t understand Japanese. Vocals are as much an instrument in music as they are important in conveying a message through lyrics, so when you don’t understand what’s being said, that instrumental quality is amplified.

Beyond the vocals from Yuki, the production is melancholy and rich, expressing a deep sadness. Even still, the shimmering synths and beautiful vocals set themselves apart from the lower tones of the bass, expressing the possibility of hope in the face of everything else.

Scenes from a Marriage TV show on HBO: canceled? renewed for season 2?

(HBO)

Network: HBO
Episodes: Five (hour)
Seasons: One

TV show dates: September 12, 2021 — October 10, 2021
Series status: Ended

Performers include: Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain with Sunita Mani, Nicole Beharie, Corey Stoll, and Tovah Feldshuh in supporting roles.

TV show description:
A drama series written and directed by Hagai Levi, the Scenes from a Marriage TV show is based on the 1973 mini-series by Ingmar Bergman.

A re-examination of the dilemmas probed by the original, the new series explores love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple.

Mira (Chastain) is a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage while Jonathan (Isaac) is a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor who is desperate to keep their relationship intact.

The story mines the full complexity of Jonathan and Mira as individuals who ultimately know their marriage isn’t being torn apart by any one event or flaw, resulting in a series that allows the audience to eavesdrop on private conversations between two people as they are torn between feelings of hate and love.

Series Finale:
Episode #5 — In the Middle of the Night, in a Dark House, Somewhere in the World
Mira and Jonathan reassess their love story.
First aired: October 10, 2021.

What do you think? Do you like the Scenes from a Marriage TV show? Do you think it should be renewed for another season, possibly with a new cast and story?

Watch Halsey Perform ‘Darling’ With Lindsey Buckingham on SNL

0

Halsey made their fourth appearance as Saturday Night Live‘s musical guest last night, where they performed two songs off their latest album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power. The pop star sang their latest single “I am not a woman, I’m a god” for their first selection, donning a futuristic suit on a sci-fi set thought up by filmmaker Michel Gondry. Halsey was joined by Lindsey Buckingham for their second song, “Darling.” (The legendary guitarist is also featured on the recorded version of the track.) The aesthetic of that performance couldn’t be more different from the former. Both musicians stood regally behind their microphones, with Halsey channeling Buckingham’s former bandmate Stevie Nicks’ haunting look.

SPIN called Halsey’s Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross-produced fourth album “an industrial-leaning masterpiece” in a recent review, which you can read here.

The episode also saw Kim Kardashian make her SNL hosting debut. She and Halsey both appeared in a sketch where Kim played her sister Kourtney and Halsey played Kendall Jenner.

Owen Wilson and Kacey Musgraves kicked off the 47th season of SNL last week. Next week, Rami Malek will take the hosting reins with Young Thug performing, and on Oct. 23 former SNL cast member and Ted Lasso star Jason Sudeikis will be the host, with Brandi Carlile making her SNL debut.
