Ranking Showstopping Met Gala Entrances From Lady Gaga to Zendaya

2. Rihanna

The singer and Fenty Beauty mogul stunned on the red carpet in this Guo Pei gown for the 2015 Met Gala. The theme of the gala was “China: Through the Looking Glass.” And as Rihanna noted in a 2020 interview with Access, even fashion icons can get pre-show jitters.

“I remember being so scared to get out of that car because I felt like, ‘I’m doing too much,'” she recalled to the outlet. “I was driving past the red carpet, and I was just seeing, like, gowns, and I was like, ‘Oh my god, like, I’m a clown. People are going to laugh at me. This is, like, too much.’ I thought that. I circled, like. three times, I’m not even joking. And finally, I was like, ‘Whatever, let’s go. Let’s just go….’ I don’t regret it.’

The internet was buzzing over her incredible look. And while the gown also inspired a number of memes, Rihanna could laugh at those, too.

“The frying pan with the egg,” she added, “legendary.”

LOTUS by JENNIFER HARTMANN – TotallyBookedBlog

“I remember everything about you, Oliver. You were real. Your life before what happened to you was real.”

Well, Jennifer Hartmann has without a doubt become an automatic one-click author for us, such is the quality of her writing, her characters, and her stories. We are blown away by her talent. Starting off with The Wrong Heart a few months ago, we discovered just how amazing of a writer Jennifer Hartmann is. This month we decided to binge read Still Beating, followed by Lotus and we were once again in awe. Please bear in mind trigger warnings regarding these books. This review is for Lotus, a standalone which features a main character briefly mentioned in Still Beating, as well as cameos by a couple of characters from that same novel. As mentioned, each can be read as standalones, however, we loved moving from one to the other.

“You saved my life.”
“I always save you.”

We fell head over heels for Oliver and Sydney’s epic friendship and love story. A friendship that transcended time and absence. Lotus broke our hearts then proceeded to heal them. It was tragic and heartbreaking, yet inspirational and uplifting. It was as dark as it was swoony and light-hearted. It packed a punch in the emotional gut yet was somehow overwhelmingly endearing too. It was sublime in its honesty, base feelings, and we thought the exploration of how deeply society’s fads and constructs become engrained in our personal development was steeped in truths.

“You make me feel like I’m… someone.”
“You are someone, Oliver. You always have been.”

Upon starting we knew that Oliver resurfaces after 22 years in captivity, confused at the state of the world, having not been a part of it for so long. His thoughts and speech were like an old soul in a young man’s body, somehow paying homage to the gentlemen of the golden era. He was a treat to read and get to know, and of course, he stole our hearts completely in the process. No bullshit agendas, straight-up honesty, and refreshingly literal at times, Oliver had patience, a massive heart, and compassionate nature. All wonderful developed qualities, despite the horror of his existence which could have severely influenced him to the contrary. Imagine not having been influenced by social media, corruption from world reporting, and being taught by classic novels and authors like Shakespeare, albeit in isolation and deprived circumstances. Oliver suffered suppressed memories, having to find his place in the outside world again, his only anchor being his childhood friend and his stepbrother, Gabe.

“We’re constantly chasing imaginary destinations, thinking we’re missing out, wanting more. We’re never truly present.”

Oliver’s journey was powerful, exciting, heartbreaking, and romantic.  It was so vividly written we immediately took him into our hearts. Unbeknownst to Oliver his heart already belongs solely to Sydney, who as a youngster lost her best mate when Oliver disappeared. They’d promised each other forever under the fireworks, despite their young years. So, when tragedy happened Sydney breaks, surrounding herself with fortress-like walls to guard her abandoned broken heart. Sydney was a wonderful character too, she loves with all her heart, a heart that belongs solely to Oliver, Sadly, she struggles to quantify love and friendship when he returns from decades of absence. She too must relearn how to trust, how to give herself fully, and how to believe that Oliver won’t leave her again.

“Why do you associate attachment with suffering and loss? God, who hurt you, Sydney?”
“You did!”

Whilst Lotus had bouts of darkness, drama, and suspense, it also has humour and joy. The angst and twists are plenty meaning we were compelled, turning the pages furiously yet also trying to take our time reveling in Jennifer Hartmann’s prose. We must applaud this Author for completely bowling us over by a twist that made us question the intentions of right and wrong, provoking a lengthy debate on an action that had detrimental consequences but could be considered otherwise in the eyes of another. We cannot stress how much we love Jennifer Hartmann and how addicted we have now become to her characters and their stories. If you haven’t met this Author’s work yet, you really need to go one-click!

“What did it feel like to you?”
“Like every star in the galaxy tumbled to Earth and crawled beneath my skin.”

Life Is Strange: True Colors Review

0

After the massive misstep that was Dontnod Entertainment’s Life Is Strange 2, which traded in the small-town charm of Arcadia Bay for an ill-advised road trip, Square Enix’s adventure series is finally back on track with Life Is Strange: True Colors. Deck Nine Games, the Colorado-based team behind Before the Storm as well as this fourth entry, has taken inspiration from its home state and created a predictable story, but one that is filled with relatable characters.

Alex Chen, the series’ latest protagonist, finds herself in a new town catching up with her estranged older brother Gabe. Family relationships are never quite rosy in Life Is Strange and there’s far more baggage to unpack than Alex’s lone suitcase would suggest. An early death (one explicitly spoiled in the trailers) sets the tone for True Colors, which turns into a detective story among Alex’s search for self-discovery and a hope to finally fit in somewhere.

Part of her ostracization stems from her superpower as she can read minds — well, sort of. Alex can sense powerful emotions and sometimes can experience flashbacks or hear the thoughts of others if she chooses to read them. It’s an invasive power, and one you almost feel bad using on the people you develop friendships with. However, Alex is always looking to help people with their problems, and helping others move past their traumas is how she is trying to cope with her own. This dual purpose is not only an inventive and empathetic power, but it also gives a good look at Alex’s character.

Life Is Strange: True Colors Review: A Return to Form

Alex’s powers don’t really suit themselves for puzzle solving and this change does alter the formula established in the past three titles. Problems are identified by reading the emotions of characters, then searching for objects imbued with emotion around the environment. It’s more about going through the motions than actually testing your puzzle-solving skills like some of the time travel-related brain teasers that were in the first game. However, being a more straightforward adventure game isn’t a bad thing and it lends itself to the title’s greatest strength: its writing.

The story moves by quite quickly and, despite not being released episodically, the game is still split into five chapters with logical stopping points. But none of these points in True Colors reach the heights of any of the shocking cliffhangers of Season 1’s later episodes and these developments don’t get much time to breathe. Theorizing with the community was a lot of the fun in prior Life Is Strange titles, which the game loses out by releasing all in one go. It’s bingeability that comes at the cost of the joy of speculation.

While it doesn’t feature any revelations that are as unexpected as some of the series’ past revelations, True Colors‘ story is tightly written and thematically cohesive. It wraps up nicely and by the finale and gives the title of the game some extra significance. Due to her selfless nature, Alex is a very likable protagonist, which Life Is Strange 2 mostly lacked, and the townsfolk are highlighted by the game’s two romance options: Gabe’s best friend Ryan Lucan and Steph Gingrich, the LARPing musician who returns from Before the Storm. Both characters are great as friends and while the romance seems a bit rushed since you don’t have a childhood friend backstory à la Max and Chloe, they still feel rather natural as those going through grief tend to look for support from others. While everyone benefits from the more varied color palette and significantly improved animations, these three are the standouts.

Life is Strange True Colors review

True Colors is a game that gives back to more curious players. It’s easy to mainline the core experience in just a few hours, but if you don’t actually search around the town of Haven and do your civic duty as a good neighbor then you’re going to miss out on a lot of its heart and some of its best storylines. From a fun side story involving a struggling ice cream store to a depressing look at the weight that dementia can put on family members, a lot of the best writing is hidden away and only experienced if you go out of your way to be an actual resident of Haven.

With an impactful story, fleshed-out characters, and some of the best writing the series has seen so far, Life Is Strange: True Colors is a triumphant success. The main story’s twist leaves something to be desired, as it’s a bit predictable and by-the-numbers, but it is bolstered by the other parts of the carefully woven narrative package. All of these strengths show that the franchise is clearly in good hands with Deck Nine, as the studio is pushing the series into a great new direction.

SCORE: 8/10

As ComingSoon’s review policy explains, a score of 8 equates to “Great.” While there are a few minor issues, this score means that the game succeeds at its goal and leaves a memorable impact.

A new ID from Skrillex has hit Reddit (r/skrillex) following a spontaneous b3b in London.

Last week, Skrillex, Four Tet and Jamie XX joined together for a surprise performance at Moth Club in Hackney. The night was undoubtedly filled with intimate moments and quality tunes, featuring three massive talents in the mix for 5+ hours.

The ID, which sounds to be a collaboration with Swae Lee, screams late night vibes with a smooth, clubby bassline, tasteful percussion and standout vocals. The appreciation Skrillex shows for the track as he plays it out makes it that much more infectious. See video below for reference.

Skrillex has recently unleashed a wave of new collaborations including “Don’t Go” with Justin Bieber & Don Toliver, “En Mi Cuarto” with Jhay Cortez, “Butterflies” with Starrah and Four Tet, “Too Bizarre” with Swae Lee & Siiickbrain, “Supersonic (My Existence)” with Noisia, josh pan & Dylan Brady and “In Da Getto” with J Balvin.

Scenes from a Marriage TV Show on HBO: Season One Viewer Votes – canceled + renewed TV shows

Scenes from a Marriage TV show on HBO: canceled? renewed for season 2?

(HBO)

How will this HBO version of the Scenes from a Marriage TV show differ from the Swedish original? As we all know, the Nielsen ratings typically play a big role in determining whether a TV show like Scenes from a Marriage is cancelled or renewed for season two (in this case, it appears to be a close-ended mini-series). Unfortunately, most of us do not live in Nielsen households. Because many viewers feel frustrated when their viewing habits and opinions aren’t considered, we invite you to rate all of the first season episodes of Scenes from a Marriage here.

An HBO drama series written and directed by Hagai Levi, the Scenes from a Marriage TV show is based on the 1973 mini-series by Ingmar Bergman. This version stars Oscar Isaac and Jessica Chastain with Sunita Mani, Nicole Beharie, Corey Stoll, and Tovah Feldshuh in supporting roles. A re-examination of the dilemmas probed by the original, the series explores love, hatred, desire, monogamy, marriage, and divorce through the lens of a contemporary American couple. Mira (Chastain) is a confident, ambitious tech executive left unfulfilled by her marriage while Jonathan (Isaac) is a cerebral and accommodating philosophy professor who is desperate to keep their relationship intact.

What do you think? Which season one episodes of the Scenes from a Marriage TV series do you rate as wonderful, terrible, or somewhere between? Do you think that Scenes from a Marriage should be renewed for a second season on HBO, potentially with a new cast and/or story? Don’t forget to vote, and share your thoughts, below.
