Prime Video Releases First Look at Jake Gyllenhaal in Upcoming Remake

Prime Video has released the first look of Jake Gyllenhaal in the upcoming Road House remake.

Prime Video posted a new video to YouTube titled “What’s Coming To Prime Video in 2024” previewing some of the studio’s upcoming television shows and movies. The video includes a brief look at Gyllenhaal in the forthcoming Road House remake, which can be seen around the four-second mark.

What do we know about the Road House remake?

“The new take follows a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise,” the synopsis reads.

The Road House remake is directed by Doug Liman, who is known for making 2002’s The Bourne Identity, 2005’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, 2014’s Edge of Tomorrow, and, most recently, 2021’s Chaos Walking with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.

With a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, the movie also stars Daniele Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Conor McGregor, J.D. Pardo, Arturo Castro, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage, Travis Van Winkle, B. K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, and Kevin Carroll.

Based on the 1989 film of the same name directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Road House is produced by Joel Silver for Silver Pictures. Executive producers include JJ Hook, Alison Winter, and Aaron Auch.

Gyllenhaal is no stranger to professional fighting. Along with filming scenes at the UFC 285 event for the movie, he also starred alongside Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker in 2015’s Southpaw, a boxing drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua.

Road House releases on Amazon Prime Video on March 21, 2024.

Nick Cave Pens Obituary for the Pogues’ Shane MacGowan in The Guardian

Nick Cave has written a eulogy in The Guardian for his longtime friend Shane MacGowan, who died last month at the age of 65. Cave first met the Pogues frontman in 1989, when NME called a “summit meeting” of the two artists along with the Fall’s Mark E Smith. “I was excited because I was a fan, completely in awe of Shane’s songwriting,” Cave writes in The Guardian.

Cave goes on to discuss the ensuing years when he and MacGowan grew closer and he reveled in his friend’s natural talent for songwriting. “To me, his songs were such precious things, deep works of art, really, but he didn’t treat them like that,” Cave writes. “While I laboured away at my desk, day after day, to produce what I could, Shane’s words were delivered to him on a beer tray with a whiskey chaser.”

“I loved his voice, too. It was the perfect vehicle for his chaotic, poetic soul,” Cave added, remembering a time he watched the Pogues soundchecking at a festival in France: “He just walked up to the mic and sang A Pair of Brown Eyes with his hands shoved in his pockets, this gorgeous, racked voice coming out of him like he was a cypher for the angels.” Cave added that, while he was first a fan of MacGowan’s unparalleled talent, it was his “great love for the man himself” at the heart of their enduring friendship.

Following the news of his death, countless artists paid tribute to MacGowan, including Billy Bragg, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, and many others. Cave wrote about MacGowan’s kindness and musical brilliance in an installment of The Red Hand Files, and performed a cover of the Pogues’ 1986 ballad “A Rainy Night in Soho” at the musician’s funeral.

Curb Your Enthusiasm to End With Season 12, Larry David Gives Statement

After speculation that the series was coming to an end, Larry David has confirmed that Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 12 will indeed be the last.

The creator and star of the HBO series revealed that the long-running comedy series will conclude with its twelfth season and joked that ending the show will allow him to “finally shed” the “malignant character” of Larry David that he portrayed for years.

“As Curb comes to an end, I will now have the opportunity to finally shed this ‘Larry David’ persona and become the person God intended me to be — the thoughtful, kind, caring, considerate human being I was until I got derailed by portraying this malignant character,” David said in a statement (via The Hollywood Reporter). “And so ‘Larry David,’ I bid you farewell. Your misanthropy will not be missed. And for those of you who would like to get in touch with me, you can reach me at Doctors Without Borders.”

“It’s hard to say farewell to such a ground-breaking, brilliantly funny and iconic series like Curb Your Enthusiasm, which has left its mark across television and the comedy genre,” CEO and chairman of HBO and Max Content Casey Bloys said in his own statement. “Working alongside Larry David and [executive producer] Jeff Schaffer as well as all of the comedic masterminds that comprise our producers, cast, and crew has been a joy that I will always treasure.”

When did Curb Your Enthusiasm start?

Originally released in 2000, Curb Your Enthusiasm was created by Larry David (Seinfeld), who stars in the series as a semi-fictionalized version of himself. The series has been critically praised from its inception and has been nominated for 51 Emmy Awards in total.

The series originally aired for eight seasons and ended in 2011 before picking back up again in 2017 for a ninth season. The 10th season released in 2020, which was followed by the 11th in 2021.
