According to Variety, House of the Dragon star Fabien Frankel and Saltburn actress Alison Oliver have been tapped to join Mark Ruffalo in HBOâs untitled crime drama, which hails from Mare of Easttown creator Brad Ingelsby.
Frankel and Oliver are set to portray the respective roles of Anthony and Lizzie, who are described as police officers task to join Ruffaloâs task force. The series will also star Tom Pelphrey, Emilia Jones, Thuso Mbedu, RaĂșl Castillo, Jamie McShane and Sam Keeley.
Based on an original idea, the story takes place in the working class suburbs outside of Philadelphia. It follows Ruffaloâs FBI agent Tom as he leads a task force, which aims to put an end to a string of drug-house robberies led by an unsuspecting family man.
The miniseries will be written and executive produced by Ingelsby, who earned an Emmy nomination for his work on Mare of Easttown for Outstanding Writing for a Limited Series. Executive producers are Ruffalo, Paul Lee, Mark Roybal, Nicole Jordan-Webber, Jeremy Yaches, Jeremy Yaches, and Jeremiah Zagar, with Salli Richardson and Zagar serving as directors.

One of my favorite thing about jazz drums is something I’m not sure there’s a..word for…
It’s what Elvin played on a Love Supreme, or Zoltan…
it’s what Max Roach played on star eyes…
What Art Blakey played on A Night in Tunisia, with the jazz messengers.
Some of it comes from the afro-latin tradition…
…it’s inspired by that…but it’s not exactly that.
But whatever it is, it’s awesome, and it’s part of jazz drumming.
And It’s also really challenging to learn, and will help your touch and coordination along the way.
Today, we’ll explore a little – and I mean a REALLY little – of where these beats came from…
…and more importantly, I’ll show you a five step method to get you stared learning them. In any time signature!
Modern examples:
Dafnis Prieto – grew up in Cuba, played with eddie palmieri among others. If Dafnis plays it, it’s correct.
Jazz drummers like Antonio Sanchez, Ernesto Simpson, Henry Cole, Adam Cruz – in the bands they’re working with they’re stretching the definitions of clave, often they don’t have percussionists, but they’re steeped enough in the tradition that just like Jack Dejohnette doesn’t literally need to play spangalang for it to be jazz, I’d argue these drummers play things with deep roots in the tradition.
part 2 – fake latin jazz
I’m not even saying drummers like Max Roach, Blakey, Elvin Jones, Tootie Heath, etc. aren’t playing things that are inspired by afro-latin roots.
When Dizzy Gilespie recorded Manteca in 1947, he worked with cuban percussionist Luciano “Chano” Pozo to both write and record the tune, and incorporated Pozo’s playing and input into the song.
Basically I’m trying to talk about the tradition enough so that I don’t have to talk about it.
But let’s check some of these examples of “jazz latin” beats:
A Love Supreme is one the most famous.
A night in tunisia by the jazz messengers is another one.
Con Alma, with stan Getz and Grady Tate is yet another.
And how about things like the introduction to star eyes, from Max Roach?
And the introduction to Stablemates, by Benny Golson’s drummer, Philly Joe Jones.
This “jazz latin” thing has become so deeply wired into jazz drumming’s DNA that I’d argue it’s a separate lineage from the “authentic” vein.

part 3 – how to play it
Source materials – cross stick, cymbal bell, toms
Principles:
clave and cascara – it’s possible for things to be in clave even if they’re not strict
Toms – originally “tumbao” (?) – if you’re not playing with a percussionist they can be anything musical, depending on how “clave authentic” you want to be
Step 1: play the clave with the cross stick and the cascara with the lead hand – I’ll show you classic claves for a few odd meters
Step 2: HH on all 8ths or quarters, “cascara” on tom rim
Step 3: figure out the tom melody – adjust the pattern if necessary to make it more “drumistic”
Step 4: ride bell accent pattern
Step 5: revert to tom rim as necessary

Prime Video posted a new video to YouTube titled âWhatâs Coming To Prime Video in 2024â previewing some of the studioâs upcoming television shows and movies. The video includes a brief look at Gyllenhaal in the forthcoming Road House remake, which can be seen around the four-second mark.

The Road House remake is directed by Doug Liman, who is known for making 2002âs The Bourne Identity, 2005âs Mr. & Mrs. Smith, 2014âs Edge of Tomorrow, and, most recently, 2021âs Chaos Walking with Tom Holland and Daisy Ridley.
With a screenplay written by Anthony Bagarozzi and Chuck Mondry, the movie also stars Daniele Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, Darren Barnet, Conor McGregor, J.D. Pardo, Arturo Castro, Joaquim de Almeida, Lukas Gage, Travis Van Winkle, B. K. Cannon, Beau Knapp, and Kevin Carroll.
Based on the 1989 film of the same name directed by Rowdy Herrington and starring Patrick Swayze, Road House is produced by Joel Silver for Silver Pictures. Executive producers include JJ Hook, Alison Winter, and Aaron Auch.
Gyllenhaal is no stranger to professional fighting. Along with filming scenes at the UFC 285 event for the movie, he also starred alongside Rachel McAdams and Forest Whitaker in 2015âs Southpaw, a boxing drama film directed by Antoine Fuqua.

Nick Cave has written a eulogy in The Guardian for his longtime friend Shane MacGowan, who died last month at the age of 65. Cave first met the Pogues frontman in 1989, when NME called a âsummit meetingâ of the two artists along with the Fallâs Mark E Smith. âI was excited because I was a fan, completely in awe of Shaneâs songwriting,â Cave writes in The Guardian.
Cave goes on to discuss the ensuing years when he and MacGowan grew closer and he reveled in his friendâs natural talent for songwriting. âTo me, his songs were such precious things, deep works of art, really, but he didnât treat them like that,â Cave writes. âWhile I laboured away at my desk, day after day, to produce what I could, Shaneâs words were delivered to him on a beer tray with a whiskey chaser.â
âI loved his voice, too. It was the perfect vehicle for his chaotic, poetic soul,â Cave added, remembering a time he watched the Pogues soundchecking at a festival in France: âHe just walked up to the mic and sang A Pair of Brown Eyes with his hands shoved in his pockets, this gorgeous, racked voice coming out of him like he was a cypher for the angels.â Cave added that, while he was first a fan of MacGowanâs unparalleled talent, it was his âgreat love for the man himselfâ at the heart of their enduring friendship.
Following the news of his death, countless artists paid tribute to MacGowan, including Billy Bragg, Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, and many others. Cave wrote about MacGowanâs kindness and musical brilliance in an installment of The Red Hand Files, and performed a cover of the Poguesâ 1986 ballad âA Rainy Night in Sohoâ at the musicianâs funeral.
