Eddie Izzard Transforms Into Iconic Monster For New Adaptation

0

Eddie Izzard will transform into a horror icon in Doctor Jekyll.

Revealed by Fangoria, the Doctor Jekyll poster (courtesy of Creepy Duck Design) sees Izzard become Dr. Nina Jekyll, a trans character based on the protagonist of the 1886 Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde novella by Robert Louis.

Doctor Jekyll is directed by Joe Stephenson, who also produced the film alongside Guy de Beaujeu and Liam Coutts. The script comes from Dan Kelly-Mulhern while Christian Angermayer serves as an executive producer. Along with Izzard, Doctor Jekyll stars Lindsay Duncan, Jonathan Hyde, and Simon Callow.

“There’ve been over 100 cinematic adaptations of Stevenson’s novella, but there has never been a trans Dr. Jekyll,” Stephenson told Fangoria. “ There seem to be some assumptions that because Nina is a trans character, we are somehow going to make it about gender. That is not the case; the themes of our film are true to the original work.”

Dr. Jekyll Through the Years: From John Barrymore to Russell Crowe

A myriad of actors have played Jekyll/Hyde over the years. One of the earliest was John Barrymore in a silent film adaptation of the novel. Other notable examples include Fredric March in a 1931 adaptation, Spencer Tracy in a 1941 adaptation, and Ralph Bates in Hammer Horror’s Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde from 1971.

Russell Crowe also played the character alongside Tom Cruise in 2017’s The Mummy. Crowe was originally supposed to reprise the role in additional installments within Universal’s Dark Universe; however, plans to make more Dark Universe movies featuring fan-favorite Universal monsters were canceled after The Mummy was a box office bomb.

Doctor Jekyll will premiere at FrightFest in Aug. 2023. The film does not yet have a wider release date.

Top Beaches In LA

0

You can’t visit the LA area and not go to the beach. That is unheard of. It’s like visiting Jerusalem and not seeing the Wailing Wall. The sandy Garden of Eden is a must for any tourist or transient that stumbles upon the yellow stand staring at the Pacific ocean in amazement. And it’s all free. Nature’s stimulus check. Here are the best beaches in Los Angeles.

Leo Carrillo State Park

An ecologically diverse spot with rocky crags jutting into the ocean, Malibu mountains to hike, and pristine water with rich tide pools. Leo Carrillo state park is set almost two mile of beach, it’s a paradise lost for surfers, swimmers, beach loungers, windsurfers, fishing enthusiasts, and curious explorers of coastal caves. Though the water at Leo Carrillo is accommodating for most visitors, the best part is the beach’s campground canopied by huge sycamore trees.

Huntington City Beach

121-acres park established in 1942 that spans from the top of Orange County. Huntington City Beach is the most iconic beach on this stretch. It’s famous for its International Surfing Museum, along with its vibrant day and nightlife. There are a variety of surf shops if you want to get a board or purchase a towel, this also includes a myriad of restaurants, bars, local breweries, and an awesome pier. Don’t forget a fish taco!

El Matador State Beach

Is a hop, skip and jump from the airport. It’s a hidden treasure down a steep staircase with jagged rock formations that rise from the Pacific, plus tide pools for our undersea friends. If you check them out for photos or simple exploration, make sure to wear water shoes as the rocks can be difficult slippery. El Matador is a natural wonder so no tourist traps or services. Bring a beach towel, sunscreen, and picnic gear, and you’ll be good for the day.

Dockweiler State Beach

Dockweiler State Beach is a sandy beach south of LAX. It’s one of the most easily accessible beaches in LA, and parking is plentiful (at $6 to $13 per car, depending on the season). It’s a great hang gliding spot with a nice swimming zone, including a gentle breeze and still water to paddle out in. The water is crystal clear, and warm soft sands are pleasant for barefoot walks. Whether you’re swimming, or want to enjoy enjoy an evening beachside barbecue, or take a hang gliding lesson, Dockweiler is a great choice.

Manhattan Beach

Manhattan Beach is the embodiment of the California lifestyle you grew up watching on TV: sand dotted with year-round tans, good-looking people playing volleyball, beach cruisers gliding by with toy dogs in tow yapping out of baskets, and cute, family-owned restaurants and bars. You can drive and park, but it’s just as easy to access this beach on two wheels: Take a bike ride along the Marvin Braude Bike Trail from Redondo or even as far away Santa Monica—it’s a workout and a sightseeing tour in one.

MY TOP SUMMER FILMS

0

I love Summer movies. To me as a lover of films – it was my favorite time of the year. The popcorn, the sodas and the best movies of the year were treats I cannot erase from my brain. Here are some of the best Summer movies of the year. Remember, It’s just my opinion – even though my opinion is great.

Fast X

Fast X or Fast and Furious Ten is the tenth film in the franchise, the first part of the finale. Dominic Vin Diesel who plays Torreto is speeding, alongside an ensemble cast including Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, and John Cena. In this film, they are up against Dante Reyes played by Jason Momoa, son of drug kingpin Hernan Reyes who attempts to avenge his father’s death from 2011’s Fast Five.

Little Mermaid

Halle Bailey is an ocean treasure. One half of the sister duo Chloe x Halle, Bailey is everyone’s favorite red-headed mermaid Ariel in the 2023 remake of the classic 1989 Disney film. She appears alongside a star studded cast, including Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Javier Bardem as King Triton, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, and Awkwafina as Scuttle.

Oppenheimer

Christopher Nolan’s latest film stars Cillian Murphy who plays the physicist Robert Oppenheimer, who served as the head of the Los Alamos Laboratory during the Manhattan Project, the United States’ mission to create a nuclear bomb during World War II. The movie features Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., and Florence Pugh in a possible Oscar award winning cast.

Runner up

Asteroid City

Asteroid City a comedy-drama written, directed, and produced by Wes Anderson, from a story he scribed with Roman Coppola. The film features a cast including Jason Schwartzman, Scarlett Johansson, Tom Hanks, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Bryan Cranston, Edward Norton, Adrien Brody, Liev Schreiber, Hope Davis, Steve Park, Rupert Friend, Maya Hawke, Steve Carell, Matt Dillon, Hong Chau, Willem Dafoe, Margot Robbie, Tony Revolori, Jake Ryan, and Jeff Goldblum. The plot simultaneously depicts the events of a Junior Stargazer convention in a retro futuristic version of 1955, staged as a play, and the creation of the play. It is Anderson’s homage to popular memory and mythology about extraterrestrials witnessed in the Southwestern desert near an atomic test sites during the postwar period of the 20th century.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph on The Idol Finale Twist: ‘It’s Feminine Empowerment’

0

The Idol star Da’Vine Joy Randolph has revealed her thoughts on the big twist that took place in the HBO series’ Season 1 finale.

ComingSoon spoiler alert

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Randolph was asked about her thoughts on the finale and the twist of Jocelyn being in control of the situation with Tedros the entire time. The actress explained that she loved the way the dynamic flipped and “in a weird way” became about feminine empowerment.

“I loved it because I love the idea that they flipped it,” Randolph stated. “When I was doing interviews prior, everybody was up in arms and I kept saying, ‘Do you really think that someone as intelligent and brilliant as Sam [Levinson], who accomplished Euphoria, would literally be that on the surface?’ Why I liked it, I should explain, is number one, it’s showing something new. When have we seen the woman do it? In a weird way, it’s feminine empowerment. We’ve never seen that side of this. What is it like when the talent has this huge team and all these people who are working for them and everything’s going along and then you lose a bit of yourself? I think there is a cost for that level of success and fame, and there’s a part of you that does, I think, give yourself over. I think the key is and what I strive for and am fighting for, I don’t care how big I get, how can I remain humble? How can I remain grounded? How can I remain true to myself without having to sign that over, right?

“So now it’s not just, what do you think of this man doing this thing to this woman? It’s taking back the power for women in the sense of, that girl knew what she was doing. I think it’s clever and I think it gives it a great setup for what could be moving forward. I think it turns it on its side and, hopefully, did what it needs to do in terms of shocking people which I hope then made all the other stuff worth it. When it’s questions of this being inappropriate or he’s quote unquote ‘raping’ her, this kind of answers all those things.”

Who created The Idol?

The Idol was co-created by Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye, Reza Fahim, and Euphoria’s Sam Levinson. The ensemble cast features Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Jane Adams, Rachel Sennott, Hari Nef, Moses Sumney, Jennie Ruby Jane, Dan Levy, Eli Roth, Ramsey, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, and Hank Azaria.

Tesfaye, Fahim, and Levinson executive produce alongside Joe Epstein, Ashley Levinson, Nick Hall, Kevin Turen, Aaron Gilbert, and Sara E. White.

Beyond Wonderland Festival Shooting Suspects Pleads Not Guilty to Murder and Assault

0

Last month, two women were killed and three more people were injured during a shooting at the campgrounds of Beyond Wonderland, an electronic dance festival at the Gorge Amphitheatre in Quincy, Washington. A 26-year-old active U.S. Army member named James M. Kelly was accused of the shooting and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree assault, and one count of first-degree domestic violence assault. Kelly has now pleaded not guilty, according to The Seattle Times. He is currently incarcerated at Grant County Jail, online records show.

The victims of the shooting were 29-year-old Brandy Escamilla and 26-year-old Josilyn Ruiz. Among the injured were Kelly’s girlfriend, a festivalgoer, and an employee who was responding to reports of gunfire.

Beyond Wonderland had been scheduled to take place on Saturday, June 17, and Sunday, June 18, but the second day was canceled after the shooting. “We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the local authorities and staff who acted quickly to manage the situation,” Beyond Wonderland wrote in a statement. “Our heartfelt thoughts and condolences go out to the family, friends, and all those affected by this tragic event.”
