Cameron Mitchell Restaurants Brings New Italian Concept to Bridge Park

0

Inspired by a fifth-generation Italian family winery, Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) is bringing a new restaurant concept to Bridge Park in Dublin, Ohio. Valentina’s will join the portfolio of award-winning CMR restaurants in the early spring of 2022.

The concept was born following a 2018 trip to Italy to celebrate CMR’s 25th anniversary, where the restaurant company’s senior leadership team visited Marchesi di Barolo Winery. To commemorate the opening of the first CMR restaurant, Cameron’s American Bistro in 1993, the winery owners, Anna and Ernesto Abbona served the team a 1993 Barolo from the private family collection. The once-in-a-lifetime experience was the start of an incredible partnership with the Abbona family.

“We want guests coming to Bridge Park to be transported to Northern Italy and experience all the tastes, sounds and smells that it brings,” said David Miller, president and COO of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants. “The story behind Valentina’s is one that our entire leadership team holds close to our hearts. Our visit to the Piedmont Region of Italy was incredible thanks to our wonderful hosts, so we are proud to honor their family through this new concept.”

In September 2019, CMR hosted a unique wine dinner at Martini Modern Italian showcasing Marchesi wines. Valentina Abbona, Marchesi winemaker and owner, and the daughter of Anna and Ernesto, flew from Italy to Columbus to attend the dinner as a special guest. It wasn’t long after the visit that the idea for Valentina’s began to take shape.

“Cap City Fine Diner, The Avenue Steak Tavern and The Pearl have been incredibly successful at Bridge Park,” said Brent Crawford, principal and co-founder of Crawford Hoying, developer of Bridge Park. “The exceptional service provided by the CMR team combined with the vibrancy of downtown Dublin creates an experience that keeps the community coming back for more. We’re looking forward to Valentina’s offering another great option for visitors, residents and office users to enjoy.”

The restaurant is being designed by Karen Hanlon of KHA Design Inc. based in Hollywood, Florida and will be located at 4595 Bridge Park Avenue. The 6,200-square-foot space will include a large patio overlooking the new pedestrian bridge linking Bridge Park with downtown Dublin. Valentina’s will offer guests the genuine hospitality for which Cameron Mitchell Restaurants is known, and will feature Northern Italian-inspired cuisine, fine wines and specialty cocktails.

Updates on the project will be available at cameronmitchell.com as the project progresses.

“Los Angeles, today. Henry (Adam Driver) is a stand-up comedian with a fierce sense of humor who falls in love with Ann (Marion Cotillard), a world-renowned opera singer,” explains the official synopsis. “Under the spotlight, they form a passionate and glamorous couple. With the birth of their first child, Annette, a mysterious little girl with an exceptional destiny, their lives are turned upside down.”

ComingSoon Editor-in-Chief Tyler Treese spoke with Annette star Marion Cotillard about performing the songs live during the film, the challenges that brought, and getting to work with Sparks.

Tyler Treese: I was really curious as a musician yourself, how exciting was it to work alongside Sparks?

Marion Cotillard: Sparks, I have to say I didn’t really know their music, but when I was a kid they had this song with a very famous French brand that I loved. I listened to this song, which is called “Singing in the Shower Tonight,” over and over and over again. So I was very excited to like meet with them.

I loved everything about the origin of the project, the story, they wanted to work with Leos Carax and they had a story before this one that Leos didn’t respond to and when they came up with Annette, the connection was there. Leos really felt that he could actually tell this story and put all himself in this movie. So I was so excited to work with such amazing deep, intense artists as Sparks and Leos Carax.

I saw that rather than being prerecorded, the music was done live. How challenging was it to act as you normally would while also singing these songs?

Very challenging, but at the same time very exciting. In a classical musical, you will record the songs in the studio and then you will lip-sync on set on your own voice. Here everything was live. So it’s a different preparation because usually when you sing, your whole body is involved only in the singing. You don’t do [any] action. You don’t swim, you don’t smoke a cigarette, you don’t run, you don’t spin. All of this we did while singing.

What was interesting is the authenticity and the closeness that it brings to the audience. Because sometimes we would be out of breath, which cannot happen when you sing. When you’re supposed to sing, you cannot be out of breath, but there it was very interesting. All those accidents, all those moments where you’re not in a position where you can sing in the sound can be optimized, but then it creates something that is very interesting. That’s what Leos Carax was looking for this. The balance between the singing and emotion and all the action and the life it brings to the scenes.

Tom T. Hall, Country Music’s “Storyteller,” Dies at 85

Tom T. Hall, the singer, songwriter, and Country Music Hall of Famer, died Friday (August 20) at home in Franklin, Tennessee. He was 85.

A prolific songwriter known for his narrative prowess, Hall was once dubbed “The Storyteller” by his contemporary Tex Ritter. He was responsible for hit songs such as “That’s How I Got to Memphis,” “I Love,” and Jeannie C. Riley’s 1968 pop country crossover “Harper Valley P.T.A.,” which was later adapted for film and television.

Born May 25, 1936, in Olive Hill, Kentucky, Hall played in a band and worked as a DJ before joining the Army in 1957. He was working on the radio when a publisher heard his song “D.J. for a Day” and brought it to Jimmy C. Newman, who helped Hall score his first top 10 hit. He would go on write several number one songs, including “Hello Vietnam,” “(Old Dogs, Children and) Watermelon Wine,” “I Love,” “Country Is,” and “Faster Horses (The Cowboy and the Poet).”

Hall signed with Mercury Records in 1967 and joined the Grand Ole Opry in 1971. He was nominated for six Grammys, winning for Best Album Notes in 1972 for Tom T. Hall’s Greatest Hits. He was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1978, the Kentucky Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002, and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2008.

His penchant for narrative was not limited to songs. Hall released five books in his lifetime, from memoir (1979’s The Storyteller’s Nashville) to How-To (1976’s How I Write Songs, Why You Can).
